Though we're confident Infinite Interactive's
Puzzle Quest 2 will eventually be a
mega-multiplatform release like its predecessor, D3Publisher announced that the game's roll-out will start
on DS and Xbox Live Arcade. It'll be out in spring 2010, along with every other game you've ever heard of, which means that you'll now have the choice to play
all those games or
Puzzle Quest. They'll occupy about the same amount of time.
Puzzle Quest 2 will let players match gems as one of four new character classes: War Mage, Inquisitor, Barbarian, or Assassin, using "all-new weapons, spells, and shields." Sorry if you
just got over a
Puzzle Quest addiction.

Why is it, puzzle games are always delayed for PSN? Do they not see the market? Or did Microsoft cut a check? (Doubtful, as it's coming to DS as well).
MystileArmor @ Nov 30th 2009 9:41AM
That's indeed a puzzling question...

The pun...it burns!
But looking at it, Zuma was delayed (and costs double what it does on XBLA), Peggle was delayed, and those are just two off of the top of my head.

A puzzle that needs to be solved

To the Batmobile?

Someone call Professor Layton!

I still play Puzzle Quest once in a while so I might pick this one up.
Uncontrol @ Nov 30th 2009 9:52AM
so glad to hear about a DS release, but i'm worried there will be another XBLA expansion and DS users will get shafted
is it at all technically feasible to do expansions over DSiware?
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith [ATDF Co-Founder] @ Nov 30th 2009 9:54AM
I'm not entirely sure. I think they'd have to be standalone titles (like Bejeweled Twist). There aren't any expansions currently on the store, to my knowledge.

There's DLC for Dragon Quest IX, I don't know exactly how it works (if it unlocks existing content or not), but it seems like it can be done.
Granger @ Nov 30th 2009 10:07AM
Scratch that, I can't find anything to be sure that it uses DSiWare to distribute let alone requires a DSi to use.
vidGuy @ Nov 30th 2009 10:07AM
Hopefully this is better than the craptastic Galactrix.
Donald @ Nov 30th 2009 10:27AM
This. If your DS game has load times, you are doing it wrong. Horribly, horribly wrong.
Doug @ Nov 30th 2009 3:06PM
Absolutely THIS. Then again, even
...loading...
without the annoying
...loading...
load screens, Galactrix just wasn't as engaging as Puzzle Quest was. Basically you just had to get a gadget that gave you multiple turns and then you win the game.
Meanwhile, Puzzle Quest Kingdoms is just lame. Once you pump up your defense a little to prevent accidental death, you easily become nearly invincible by exploiting the stupid AI.
I really hope Puzzle Quest 2 gets back to the old addictive gameplay that made the first one such a hit.

I owned/own Puzzle Quest on DS and PSP. This is very heartwarming news for me.

"Why is it, puzzle games are always delayed for PSN?"
Because they're often made by small developers who cut their teeth on PC technology, which more or less equals X360 tech. Big developers can afford the parallel development teams, and can afford to delay everything else to accommodate the PS3's longer development cycle. Small devs can't.
I'm one of the PQ addicts out there. I've been developing a new character for the past couple of weeks. I just heard about the (first true) sequel yesterday. Ugh! So much more of my time is going to end up down the drain.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith [ATDF Co-Founder] @ Nov 30th 2009 1:02PM
But Sony has the fund for small devs. They've helped a ton of indie guys go mainstream. That excuse doesn't really hold water.
Elranzer @ Nov 30th 2009 12:19PM
Wait. I thought Puzzle Kingdoms was already Puzzle Quest 2.
SoshiKitai @ Nov 30th 2009 12:39PM
Have we learned nothing from Grand Theft Auto?
Maurice M @ Nov 30th 2009 1:44PM
I loved it on PSP. Not sure which platform to get 2 on. I don't carry my PSP around like I used to. Maybe I'll get it on PSN or DS this time.
