Rumor: Gaming conventions to convene in Xbox Live
According to a recent survey conducted by market research company VGMarket, Microsoft may be working on an "interactive, online version" of your favorite gaming conventions -- from E3 to ComicCon and everything in between. As noted by a Destructoid reader who took the survey, the online questionnaire presented the aforementioned hypothetical situation, and then went into detail about how such a situation might play out.
"Sign onto Xbox Live and you can enter a virtual version of that convention ... this virtual version contains 20–60 virtual booths sponsored by larger publishers and developers presenting at the real world show," imagined the survey. The possibilities then reached outrageous levels as the idea of downloading "demos and/or betas" directly from the virtual convention floor and playing them that very moment was suggested. However, as VGMarket doesn't list Microsoft among its clients on the company's official website, and a representative could not be reached for comment, the veracity of this survey and its information is still very much in question.

wow i'd be so down for this to actually happen
Space @ Nov 30th 2009 5:36PM
this could be Home all over again. instead of easily going through a menu you'll get to walk to a booth...virtually!
no but seriously, why not just make the content available on the marketplace immediately? It'd be the same thing, no need to dress it up with virtual booths.
but virtual booth girls...that's a different story.
Ben @ Nov 30th 2009 5:59PM
Virtual booth babes? I like it!
Extinction @ Nov 30th 2009 7:18PM
Yeah, it's just Home again... Only less useful if that's even possible.

Just two questions.
When and how much?
Space @ Nov 30th 2009 5:54PM
haha that was actually kind of funny
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith [ATDF Co-Founder] @ Nov 30th 2009 6:07PM
So...we downvote for a simple question now?
WiredKnight: Keeper of Threads @ Nov 30th 2009 6:10PM
No, a question is fine. You asked two, that's a big no-no.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith [ATDF Co-Founder] @ Nov 30th 2009 6:13PM
First, you guys say I post too much. So I try to cut down by combining questions.
Then you say I can't ask two questions. What's a Dark Lord to do?
BlackBeltJones @ Nov 30th 2009 6:48PM
If you click the Dtoid link the screen capture of the survey says it would be free.
whylekat @ Nov 30th 2009 6:57PM
F these jerks. You post as much and as often as you'd like, Bradwart!
LegendaryRedass @ Nov 30th 2009 7:21PM
Who cares what everybody thinks. You're not going to get everybody to agree with you all the time, if they did, you'd be doing something wrong. Have your point of view, and stick with what you believe, not the popular consensus. I can always respect that, whether I agree with you or not.

I was thinking of hiring a Joystiq writer as a surrogate, wearing a web cam and a microphone to the next E3.

ROFL @Orchard Pear !!!
Its not free all the time because then it wouldnt be a service. It would be PC gaming online/PSN, unmonitored, low quality voice chat, and tumbleweeds passing by.
Orchard Pear @ Nov 30th 2009 5:10PM
And you'll need a Gold subscription to take advantage of it.
No thanks, the various gaming sites and blogs already do a fantastic job of covering every trade show, and present it in a better way than this.... service probably would.
Besides, it's probably just another way for Microsoft to pretend that every upcoming game is only on the 360.
Captain Planet [Planeteer | Power of Captain Planet] @ Nov 30th 2009 5:15PM
You do realize Microsoft has been giving Silver members free access to Gold level content during E3, GDC and TGS for almost 4 years now right?
tmacairjordan87 @ Nov 30th 2009 5:28PM
No he doesn't realize that, because he doesn't have a 360 otherwise he wouldn't have said that.
Emblazin @ Nov 30th 2009 5:34PM
@Captain Planet
Why can't it just be free then? Why can't they allow multiplayer access for silver but charge for the premium services like facebook, twitter, last.fm, party chat etc.?
Its funny how it makes them seem like they're "nice" by doing this, while every other service (excluding mmos) don't charge for online.
Its like someone beating up your grandma if she doesn't pay for protection, but during the holidays they won't hurt her. Shes still getting beaten up if she doesn't pay and its not a holiday.
Spike (GT: SitriStahl) @ Nov 30th 2009 6:47PM
@tmac
i didn't know, and i had a 360 for almost a year, could be that i don't bitch about the price of live, $50 isn't much for a year of gaming
blazinsmokey @ Nov 30th 2009 6:55PM
nobody pays $50 for live! i dont understand how people still think this or even crazier pay that price. $30 on sale and $40 regularly at basically all the online sites.
mahouneko @ Nov 30th 2009 7:06PM
@BlazingMonkey:
Well, when Microsoft's Xbox website lists the XBL Gold subscription as "a little over $4 per month for 12 months" as "deal of the week", it's kind of hard to avoid the $50 price tag:

Bah, I'm tired and I incorrectly referred to Blazinsmokey as BlazingMonkey. Damn.
Bubbameister33 (Confused by Fanboyism) @ Nov 30th 2009 7:11PM
That's still less than $50.
LegendaryRedass @ Nov 30th 2009 7:15PM
There is an upside to gold. You ever play on a free gold weekend? The amount of 12 year old filthy mouthed jackasses skyrockets. As far as I'm concerned, keep charging for gold, the virtual velvet rope.

Goooooooo Planet!!!
jUSTCALLMERED @ Nov 30th 2009 5:10PM
Yeah. When I read that I said out loud "Wow. That's a great idea... Why didn't I think of that?". What a way to reach your audience. The people who are actually going to buy these games. I'd definetly "attend". Even for a small fee. Or better yet make it free/discounted for gold members.
And this is great even for the game journalist. Imagine they have a special code they could enter into the "booth" to get the things they don't want us to see. Though then the issue of security leaks comes into play. Someone could just record their TV. And I'd be hard to near impossible to determine whodunit.
jUSTCALLMERED @ Nov 30th 2009 5:14PM

Not likely, since MS always does online better than Sony.

Home Says "Hello"
CheeziePotato @ Nov 30th 2009 5:21PM
Tell Home I said "Hi" as well.
tmacairjordan87 @ Nov 30th 2009 5:26PM
If by Home, you mean watching Sony's conference 2 hours after it happens, in a room full of people with a poor quality streaming vid...then yes, Home says Hello.
This is actually referring to not only conferences, but demo kiosks too. Another thing Sony promised with Home that they have yet to fulfill.
wassup dawg @ Nov 30th 2009 5:28PM
yo wassup my niggas. im bak dawg
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Nov 30th 2009 5:30PM
if I remember correctly it did in the CLOSED Beta have E3 and TGS conferences live......with the exception of the Kiosk for game demos....but with the Cloud tech they are working on it couldn't be that hard of a step...
tmacairjordan87 @ Nov 30th 2009 5:33PM
Oh, well I'm talking about the current beta that everyone's using right now.
Marius Returns @ Nov 30th 2009 5:35PM
and you dont think Sony will jump on this if MS is doing it, they already have the virtual world

why is PSN Home talking to me!?
I knew I shouldn't have drank that purple water.
tmacairjordan87 @ Nov 30th 2009 5:40PM
Of course Sony will copy MS if they do it first, that's the only way Sony gets anything done nowadays. They'll promise the world so they can say MS copied them, but MS will be the ones who actually do it first.
