Employing Steam's built-in VAC anti-cheating system, Infinity Ward has dropped the ban hammer on its first round of Modern Warfare 2 cheaters – 2,500 PC gamers, more specifically. In responding to a question on Twitter last Friday, community man Robert Bowling said, "The Steam ban hammer is coming down on about 2,500 confirmed #MW2 cheaters on PC today."
We contacted Bowling to find out how frequently the bans will be taking place and have yet to hear back. We'll keep you updated when we have more info, but for now we're going to get back into these hacked private servers to do some superhuman jumping and grenade spamming. You know how much we love our grenade spamming.

Exactly 2500? I would think it would be more like 2499 or 2501 or something like that...

A console vs PC argument and i wasn't invited!!!
Yeah i'll say it, the controls for games like The Conduit shit all over the barbarianism that is dual-analog. I can use all 3 control schemes perfectly fine, its just far easier and far more accurate for PC/Wii FPS gamers than 360/Ps3 fps gamers. Console FPS gamers who love dual-analog and hate using keyboard/mouse cause they aren't 'used to it' (probably grew up with Halo 1) are the very definition of the old phrase "Ignorance is Bliss"

How the hell did 10 y/o's get hold of the game?
You're the kind of douche hat who makes console gaming look bad, go back to playing MW2 all night, screaming over the headset and waiting for your balls to drop.
Good day kid.

Anyone pretending the PC version is any more than a ported Xbox 360 version is delusional.
I did (and still do) play plenty of games on the PC. Including Cod 1 and 2, nut there isn't anything bringing me to my pc for this game over the xbox. (Where my friends play)

Seriously I like how Anthony didn't really say anything bad or grossly false, but here we are with the floodgates opening for more pointless PC vs Console bickering.

I tried playing MW1 on pc and I don't know how you guys do it. Struggled like hell to get through the campaign on easy. It felt so alien and horrible playing a video game on a keyboard.

I remain competent in both PC and console gaming, but there's a level of accuracy only the mouse can give. I prefer PC any day of the week.

You're the reason this game needs cross-platform multi-player. I'm sure there are plenty of PC gamers who would like to educate you on the complexities of WASD gaming. I may play MW2 on a console, but I have a lot of respect for the other side of the fence.

It's not like I dislike controllers at all. I do hook up my PC to my HDTV at times and play some console ports with a 360 controller on the couch, or even with a mouse/keyboard. There's benefits to each style of controller.
Since MW2 is so gimped on the PC, its a consolized game, they may as well have made it cross-platform, perhaps make it to play with 360/PS3 owners, you must play with a controller too or you'll have a huge unfair advantage with a mouse and keyboard.

God, give it a rest. Not everyone can do everything everyone else can do. I can't stand playing FPS games (that are newer than Half-Life) on a Keyboard/Mouse, but I acknowledge that to many people that is the preferred way to play them, and in many ways it can be superior to using an analog controller... Just as many people can't play FPS games with an analog controller. Agree to disagree and stop bringing this shit up.
This is the stupidest argument in gaming history.

Its lame on PC, but it is a rare exception to be outdone by the console. It really doesn't matter, whats one more lame FPS experience on the computer? I doubt its radically different from the first ,and I got my fill of modern warfare then, a few years ago.

I agree with Victor, since I also play both console and PC games, and like both control schemes. Although using the analog stick on a controller to aim still feels a little awkward for me (a long time PC gamer), I realize that the keyboard/mouse setup isn't better than a controller when comes to FPS games. It takes time and practice to master a new skill, so don't criticize one type of control setup, just because you happen to suck at it on your first couple of tries.

Most of you are missing the WHOLE point to this; which is that MW2 is void of most of the features that specifically made a PC version tower over its console counterparts.
In most other games, I'd agree pc>console completely... but with MW2 there isn't even much of a point in mentioning it. (mp hacks aside)

I find it really wierd ppl are arguing over CONTROL SCHEMES. i mean wth. it's akin to saying OMGZ U USE THE DEFAULT? LOLOL NOOB.
I play both PC and console and i have to say i switch fairly well between the two =/ Console ppl who can't use mouse+keys are just too sturbon or lazy at learning new controls. Same for the PC ppl who bitch about dual analogs.
Now back to topic. This news shows badly on IWNET's part. Taking soo long to ban these ppl (although it wn't be surprising they'll find a way to get back on.) If this was done on dedi's bans could have been handled out almost immediately. And it shocks me that they still haven't done anything about the piracy thing. =/

Where there is a will, there will be a way. I say keep the mods coming and find a way to move them off of Steam.

All they have to do to make me happy is patch up the servers a bit and add a mode that doesn't allow snipers at all. Hell, I'd even play that mode if it didn't have party chat!

There's an easy way to combat this, change your damn tactics. Jeez, don't cry to IW everytime someone kills you.
I've only been sniped like twice the whole time I've played

It becomes a problem when the majority of people are hiding and camping. That's what ruined COD 2 online. It's such a pussy move too, go out there and fight like the rest of us are instead of hiding the whole level.
I can deal with a couple per game, but when most are doing it it's infuriating.

oooh i can't believe I forgot about those assholes with the dual shotties. Those fuckers need to be tuned waaaaaay down. They always seem to 1 shot people, and you can hit them all the way across a huge room with them which isn't really what a shotgun does...

Except in Halo, it's much easier to avoid the snipers.
And most of the snipers are in the DEDICATED (take note, IW) Team Snipers playlist.

@ Dreaded Fear - What version of Halo were you playing? You are guaranteed 1-3 campers per match (1 or 2 snipers, 1 laser)... The other 7-15 players are all partaking in the shear variety of Halo play. I'd actually say that is Halo's main downfall, everyone always seems drawn to the center of the map to die (hello valhalla man cannons).

Technically, the guys with the dual shotguns are at least 2-shotting people. When I've been hit by them I've always been shot at by both at once, not just one.

Also, it's impossible to tell how many people are using certain weapons because they like being dicks or if they're just going for the challenges. I admit the noob tube is still a lot of fun, but I only used it to unlock the shotgun attachment (which I haven't actually ever seen anyone use) and M4 Mastery.

there aren't any camping snipers on PS3 as far as i can tell. most people run n' gun. the only time i ever see camping snipers are on wasteland in sabotage. sabotage in general seems to be the only mode that has a good bit of campers.
the dual shotties aren't that much of a problem for me either. dual rangers have horrible range, and the 1887's are only available for 3 levels before prestige. a lot of people don't even know that the 1887 is good either, since most people seem to use machine pistols as their secondary weapon...

A major difference between Halo 3 and MW2 is that Halo controls the amount of weapons on any given map, whereas an entire team could spawn with snipers if they so choose. You can only camp so much when there's only 8 sniper bullets to go around every couple of minutes.
I can't really say what it is I enjoy about MW2 multiplayer (though I do like it) when I notice so many of its flaws: lack of cross-game chat, stupid lack of party leader control, annoying balance issues, etc. that I've come to expect after spending so much time playing Halo. The cross-game chat thing is so dumb because most people don't spend anytime talking about tactics but rather call each other racial slurs and complain most of the time, and I'm sure everyone loves having to invite people back into games constantly in order to change servers (I know you can have the leader back out first, but that doesn't always get coordinated amidst the shower of post-game immaturity). And I'm still not sure why a game would give advantages to the winning team (killstreaks, generally) or players who've played longer (or even worse, boosted). But I will admit there is something fun about it and it's all I've played lately. I guess I just wonder how much better it could be.

to reward them for doing well of course... what i don't understand are deathstreaks. why reward a player for doing bad in a match? copycat i can understand, but painkiller, martyrdom, and final stand? not cool.
and i suppose the tactical nuke doesn't make any sense at all, but it's still cool. seriously, why annihilate everyone on the map when your team is winning?
