Are UMD movies in general even made anymore? I mean, obviously this one is, but aside from it.

wow.....here I am thinking UMD movies stopped being produced in 2008....most interesting...

the possible reason for the digital copy lacking from the BD is licensing issues....

slightly off topic, but has anyone noticed that the new UMD discs for PSP games don't have UMD printed in the middle - they're just blank... lol

No, I haven't noticed that yet (I'm sooo observant), but it wouldn't surprise me. For some reason, SCE felt recently it was necessary to completely rebrand the PS3 (formerly the PLAYSTATION 3) and the PSP lately. Now, when I look through my PS3 and PSP collection, it's easy to tell what was released post-Slim/Go and pre-Slim/Go. I don't feel it was necessary to completely change everything, but eh, maybe it'll help them in the long run? Maybe?

They could include bonus materials on one disc. Better audio as well. Blu-Ray isn't all about the picture quality.

Blu-Ray would provide extra space for more bonus content. And the audio quality would be better. BD isn't all about HD picture.

Awesome! I'll be able to pick this up for $1.50 in the not too distant future.

LOL, my thoughts exactly.

The only reason I buy UMD movies is because I can usually find then for $0.50 + $3 shipping.

"Michael Jackson's This Is It will retail for $24.94 on UMD ($28.96 on DVD; $39.95 on Blu-Ray)."

According to Wikipedia and Yahoo Movies, the movie cost $60M for Sony to make and has grossed nearly $240M worldwide. The movie is critically acclaimed (I haven't seen it, personally) and is the best selling documentary to date.

I understand that there are millions of people worldwide that will buy anything MJ (not me, but he is the best entertainer I've known) but why rape these good people by setting these price points? BBC's Planet Earth is $39.99 and that's like 4 BDs.

It's a shame that UMDs (are still around. With no extras for nearly the price of a DVD. *Sigh*) and DVDs still "retail" for about $25 or more just for Amazon to put them on sale for about 40% off. Gotta wonder why Netflix and piracy is so strong right now....

$24.94 on UMD, $28.96 on DVD, and $39.95 on Blu-Ray are the "Suggested Retail Prices" (SRPs) of the movie. This is the standard SRP for most movies.

Retail stores order movies in large quantities; thus they can sell them for about $15 for the DVD or $25 for the Blu-ray Disc. Considering "This Is It" is very popular most retailers will try to give you the best price (which draws in more customers).

I'll go with the Blu-ray, assuming it'll be available for less than $39.95.
