I'll wait for the "limited copies" of the Prestige Edition to be on clearance at Best Buy in February for $50, then I'll pick it up.

FYE store in Arundel Mills in Maryland had a stack of Halo 3 Legendary last month. Remember it when IT was going to be limited?

I bought the Halo 3 Limited Edition, then picked up the Legendary Edition for 40 when TRU cleared their stock.

But I think there were fewer than 1 million copies. The serial numbers were only six digits.

I'm not playing MW2 either and this still doesn't apply to me.

Did Joystiq forgot about the er, thousands who played CoD when it first came out? I think they did.

Yes 15 dollars for an old PC game is outrageous! But its Activision and they know people will see Call of duty and buy it so they don't care. Even if it is just a straight port.

It's a bargain considering the Steam version of the game is still an outrageous $20.

That doesn't mean it's a bargain. It merely means that it's a little less outrageous.

As great as this game was the first time I bought and played it (back in the good old days when my computer could still run games with a degree of dignity,) I don't feel like shelling out (even though it's less than retail when released the first time) for a game that's not even improved upon (though don't get me wrong, the game was splendid with great moments, and had very balanced multiplayer.) I just imagine it didn't take much time at all to port the game looking at the Xbox 360's and PC's similar coding structure to warrant purchasing it again. I mean sure, with Hardened Edition it's a great addition, but fifteen dollars is quite a bit of money to be asking for this classic, regardless of if it was good or not six years ago. I was even one of the few loyal enough to buy the expansion, United Offensive, for what few things it offered. It'd be interesting to find out if they included those in the package, or if they're going to port that as DLC and make you pay EVEN more.

Im finding it that, like a lot of older games i didnt play originally, it's pretty hard to slog through. It's very...archaic? There's no sprint button, the left stick toggles weapon functions i.e. semi/full auto. The graphics are horrendous, they almost look worse than the original. Im almost compelled to rebuy MoH allied assault and see if it holds up just as bad

Are you guys serious?
I mean, I'm what, 19? I'm not even that old, and have been playing FPS since I was little, and the only time I find myself complaining about old gameplay mechanics is whenever they don't have mouse look. I never find myself in a position where an old game has horrendous graphics to the point it bothers me, nor gameplay so archaic I deem it unplayable or not fun. It's an old game, it plays like an old game, and it is still fun as it was back when I played it. Heck, I still go for rounds of Quake 3 with my dad.
Besides, the first CoD isn't even that old...

Somehow I think it's mostly down to games like this, war simulators or whatever that nobody even thinks of touching anymore once the newest version comes out. Stuff like Yoshi's Island, Zelda LttP, Sonic 2? People still play those even today. But almost all the most realistic hardcoar sequel games just age really really badly, because they have nothing unique to them at all and they probably weren't very good in the first place, people just played them because they featured all the newest technical bullshit that really doesn't matter for games no matter how much hardcoar gamers want to convince themselves that it does.

Nobody wants to play fucking Fifa 98 now. Call of Duty whatever the number before the newest one? Throw it in the trash, who cares? Those games that Darth mentioned, I don't even remember them aside from the title vaguely ringing a bell.

Exactly. People still play Doom because it's doom, it practically invented FPS'. Likewise, I'd gladly play the original fallout's or baldur's gate over and over again. Stuff like CoD 1 just dont seem worth playing when you have greatly updated versions. Fallout 3 is such a radical departure from the first games that it's not crazy to want to play both, but why play the original CoD with all it's flaws when you can play what is essentially an HD version without all the problems? Maybe in 10 years ill be ready to enjoy CoD 1, but right now, even some of the early expansions to CoD like Finest Hour or Big Red One are loads better than this.

it is archaic, but it's very much still playable and enjoyable. no sprint is kinda annoying, but it's not that big of a deal. i do like being able to switch firing modes though. that would be very welcome in MW2 (at least single player, since it could be cheap in MP - think about a full auto FAMAS. ugh...).

You know... I was fully prepared to come in here with a super snarky PC-gamer fuck yeah attitude and say how you can probably get it for $10 or less on Steam and no body has that excuse of "my PC sucks" since it was a game released back in 2003.

Then I checked steam. It's selling for $20. $20.

Jesus fucking christ. Name me one other game from '03 which is selling for $20?

Fucking A, IW/Activision. fucking a.

You can get COD for 5 bucks in many other places. I don't see how anyone is forced to pay $20 on steam when you can get it cheaper elsewhere.
