Direct2Drive running '24 Days of Christmas' sale
Digital distribution service Direct2Drive is celebrating the 24 days leading up to Christmas by discounting a select PC title each day from now until December 25. As the math whizzes have no doubt already divined, that's 24 discounted games! Today's game is DICE's parkour-em-up, Mirror's Edge. At the ridiculously low asking price of $4.95, it'd be a crime for PC gamers to disregard this most excellent (and very much deserving of a sequel, EA!) game from 2008.
We can personally vouch for its high levels of quality, actually. In terms of fun-to-cents ratio, you're looking at about 16 gazillion wows of entertainment value. Trust us, we did the math.
[Thanks, Jordan]

I really, really hope EA doesn't overlook the mirror's edge IP. I know it wasn't perfect, but I sure had a whole hell of a lot of fun with it. The PC version is the best version, too. For $5, you'd be nuts to skip over this.
RKN (Steam ID: nerdydesi) @ Dec 1st 2009 9:09PM
I've bought three copies of it for the PC, on Steam for $5, Half Price Books for $6 and GoGamer for $5. One for me, my brother and his friend. Silky smooth 60fps and Physx FTW!
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith [ATDF Co-Founder] @ Dec 1st 2009 9:10PM
Yes, console games with PhysX are far too rare. Havok is so last gen.
RKN (Steam ID: nerdydesi) @ Dec 1st 2009 9:10PM
I love its so cheap for the PC and yet also sad which means its considered a bargain bin title, which it really isn't. I guess its not that popular on the PC but PC gamers shouldn't miss it.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith [ATDF Co-Founder] @ Dec 1st 2009 9:14PM
You know, I was surprised that Naughty Dog decided to license Havok for Uncharted 2. The PhysX development tools are free for PS3 developers.
giantenemycrab @ Dec 1st 2009 9:16PM
Guess I should have scrolled down a little more.

Sweet!

"Havok is so last gen."
you haven't played Red Faction Guerilla have you...
Warlord @ Dec 2nd 2009 1:57AM
damn all these awesome deals 1st 29.99 for L4D2 on black friday now this (and a couple others I have) all these PC game deals are turning me into a PC gamer o well i guess thats what I bought a GTX280 for on its release date.
Stupidiot @ Dec 1st 2009 9:29PM
I uh... Took advantage of a glitch on the Direct2drive system a while back wherein bundling Mirror's Edge, Dead Space and Mercenaries 2 into the checkout list cut the price to zero (didn't even need credit card details).
Before I'm accused of not supporting the developer, I own the first two on 360 (which is currently fucked over by the RROD).
It may have been wrong of me, but I'm not going to say no to free games directly from EA :P
Traceur_Ryuk [Founder of The Anti-EMCB(tm) and co-leader of ATDF] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Dec 1st 2009 9:32PM
Lol, I would've done it too, given the chance.
And before any of you say "Pirate!1!!"... You would have done it and you know it.
Einhanderkiller @ Dec 1st 2009 9:34PM
I'm pretty sure that was the EA Store.
CheeziePotato @ Dec 1st 2009 9:30PM
I think now is the chance I can finally play this game. I'm pretty sure I can run this on my Mac using Crossovers.
Traceur_Ryuk [Founder of The Anti-EMCB(tm) and co-leader of ATDF] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Dec 1st 2009 9:31PM
...If only I had a decent gaming PC :(
xaiax @ Dec 1st 2009 9:34PM
It doesn't have to be TOO beefy. This MacBook Pro I'm on just has some mobile 8x00 NVIDIA part in it (8600, I think) and it runs fine at decent settings. Just don't turn on the PhysX unless you have the hardware support for it, or it'll chug like a fratboy.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith [ATDF Co-Founder] @ Dec 1st 2009 9:36PM
We all want a good gaming PC.
But we're either cheap, unable, or poor college students, and it's out of our reach...;(
Traceur_Ryuk [Founder of The Anti-EMCB(tm) and co-leader of ATDF] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Dec 1st 2009 9:39PM
MacBook Pro = $1200 (Who games on Macs anyways?)
I'm having a hard enough time spending $300 on a new PS3...
RKN (Steam ID: nerdydesi) @ Dec 1st 2009 10:12PM
I feel blessed to have a 28" 1920x1200 monitor, Core i7 desktop with GTX 285. : )

I feel blessed to be able to downvote people flexing their e-peens on joystiq.
xaiax @ Dec 1st 2009 9:32PM
Does anyone know if this supports the DLC they released? The Steam version (unless something has changed) doesn't support it because it didn't use SecuROM, just the Steam DRM. (As I recall)
$5 again might be worth it to legitimately play the abstract maps. Pirating just isn't worth my time.
Traceur_Ryuk [Founder of The Anti-EMCB(tm) and co-leader of ATDF] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Dec 1st 2009 9:33PM
It doesn't really matter, the DLC is complete shit.
Einhanderkiller @ Dec 1st 2009 9:36PM
From the Mirror's Edge Pure Time Trials Map Pack page on the EA Store website:
"Note: Currently this map pack only works with the EADM and disk versions of Mirror's Edge. If you have purchased the game through another download service, you may receive an error message during installation that will prevent use with the full game. We apologize for any disappointment or inconvenience that this causes."
Veko @ Dec 1st 2009 9:33PM
They're a little late. I bought it on Steam for $5 already.
HighFiveJesus @ Dec 1st 2009 10:17PM
Its nice that they matched though. I'm waiting for the sequel though.
Special Agent Steve @ Dec 1st 2009 9:39PM
Oh man, how I miss "first".
Brian @ Dec 1st 2009 9:40PM
I bought Mass Effect through D2D yesterday. It doesn't work / will not install.
When I start the installer, after accepting the EULA, it goes straight to a screen that says Installation Cancelled. Grrrr.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith [ATDF Co-Founder] @ Dec 1st 2009 10:35PM
I find that these work best for computer problems.

Steam had the same deal, if I didn't get it on Steam there's no way I'm gonna get it on Direct2Drive.
CaramelZappa @ Dec 1st 2009 9:50PM
Great game. For $5 it's a steal.
CH3BURASHKA @ Dec 1st 2009 10:29PM
It was 'stolen' yesterday on Steam.
CaramelZappa @ Dec 1st 2009 10:38PM
Yea, I got it a while back when it was $15. If I hadn't I definitely would have for $5 yesterday.
Chris Wallace @ Dec 1st 2009 10:36PM
Just FYI, these are all the games they will be selling over the next month, in backwards order
http://www.direct2drive.com/Sites/RET/_img/holiday/ornaments.jpg
They put them all into one image :-O
CaramelZappa @ Dec 1st 2009 10:42PM
You sir are a hero.
Das Boot @ Dec 1st 2009 10:57PM
Wow.
Nice loot.
Thanks mate.
Nadril @ Dec 1st 2009 11:00PM
hmm... so from left to right:
- Spore
- Champions Online
- ?
- Torchlight
- ?
- Sector 8
- ?
- Resident Evil 5
- Operation Flashpoint or something?
- GRID?
- Tiger Woods
- ?
- Sims 3
- Heroes of Might and magic V?
- ?
- Street Fighter IV
- Mercanaries II
- ?
- Majesty or w/e?
- Wolfenstein
- C&C 3 or whatever the title is?
- ?
- The witcher?
- Mirrors Edge
Can't figure out some of them, mostly the more generic looking ones.
giantenemycrab @ Dec 2nd 2009 12:30AM
3rd one after "the witcher" is Need For Speed Shift. "GRID?" is Need For Speed Pro Street.
JerJer @ Dec 2nd 2009 1:58AM
3rd one = machinarium (AMAZING p&c game btw)
some of the other question marks are some random RTS games (dont keep up on em)
GOOD FIND OP!
liquid @ Dec 1st 2009 10:43PM
Right now, it says SF4. I guess it's a different game for EU/US.
Preston @ Dec 1st 2009 10:52PM
Too bad I already snagged Mirror's Edge on Steam yesterday for $5.
Nadril @ Dec 1st 2009 11:01PM
Same (along side Monkey Island for $2.50).
Great game, I missed it when it came out though due to not wanting to buy it for full price on PC.
meatee @ Dec 2nd 2009 9:35AM
As did I. But, I'll definitely be checking back to see what Direct2Drive has for the rest of the month.
Discotheque @ Dec 1st 2009 11:08PM
This game looks glorious on the PC guys. It really gave me restored faith in the Unreal Engine (alongside that pilot mod that still hasn't come out).
Joe @ Dec 1st 2009 11:35PM
...Faith.
Ha!
refinedsugar @ Dec 1st 2009 11:10PM
Take this, you dirty ol' High Prices.
Solstice @ Dec 2nd 2009 12:13AM
The two car ones are both Need for Speed games. The top one (back of the black Nissan GT-R) is from the cover of NFS: ProStreet. The bottom one (white BMW M3) is NFS: Shift. My advice: If you have a wheel, get Shift. If you don't and still really want a NFS game, get ProStreet.
Oh and the C&C ornament is actually the cover of the Red Alert 3: Uprising expansion pack. I wonder if it's just the Xpack or if it's the base game too.
The only other one I recognize that isn't already listed, is the top second from the right. The face of Genghis Khan can only be one game: Civilization 4.
Alphathon @ Dec 2nd 2009 4:21PM
Interestingly, the UK site has different games. Yesturday was Trine, and today is Street Fighter 4
