Just a few hours after Nintendo, Sony has prepared a Black Friday sales statement of its own. SCEA's Patrick Seybold wrote in a press release: "PlayStation 3 demand was at an all time high with the system selling more than 440,000 units for the week ending 11/29/09." While shy of
Wii's numbers, the figure is quite impressive, considering that's more than the number of systems sold in the
entire month of October -- the same month that the PS3-exclusive
Uncharted 2 came out.
Retailers offered a number of
PS3 bundles during the holiday weekend, adding a number of free games and movies to the system's standard $299 price tag. That, coupled with an ad campaign that totally
doesn't creep us out, certainly helped Sony's fortunes this year.

Your welcome, and my dad will thank you when he gets his hands on that new PS3 this Christmas!
Andrew Yoon @ Dec 1st 2009 12:12AM
Yeah I bought two of my friends PS3s this weekend. I'm sure they'll be surprised come Christmas time!
Sly @ Dec 1st 2009 12:17AM
wow, someone's generous. i wouldn't mind being one of your friends, haha.
DrunkRaba @ Dec 1st 2009 12:19AM
@Andrew Yoon
I bet they will be! I'm hoping my dad will be as well as I have had to dash his dreams of getting one for Christmas for the last two years :(
sonicspike41 @ Dec 1st 2009 12:22AM
Oh man, I can just imagine your dad's (purposely comical) reaction:
"A PS3 Slim? What, too cheap to go buy a real PS3 with backwards compatibility?"
He would of course then say "Just kidding, I love you son" and rejoice.
Solace @ Dec 1st 2009 12:23AM
hope to get a 3rd PS3 for the parents by getting in on that bestbuy bravia/ps3 promo
DrunkRaba @ Dec 1st 2009 12:36AM
@sonicspike41
Haha! I can imagine it as a "what took you so long?!" sort of comments. I'll just say I got it for him years ago and just found it in the dryer, hence the smaller size and wrinkled exterior.
As an aside, I am so happy I have my launch PS3, the Slim just doesn't have that "classy" look. :(
SimbaDogg @ Dec 1st 2009 1:02AM
wow...looks like 2010 will finally be the year of the PS....
fugg it i dont care for all that nonsense, i'm happy w/ my infamous and uncharted 2 (which i STILL need to get). but more consoles sold=more polished ps3 games which is all i'm happy for. ::tiphat:: to sony for getting their act together on just about every front. pricing, MARKETING, and...well, i'll give it to you hardware w/ that new slim amazing body, but i know deep down inside u still have a lil BC envy ; )
Chris @ Dec 1st 2009 1:47AM
I had to buy my parents the PS3 remote control, otherwise they'd never use their PS3... lol...
Good news is I surprised them with the Netflix Instant Streaming Disc last weekend. They loved it.
Not THAT Matt @ Dec 1st 2009 9:38AM
For $300, with Infamous, Batman: Arkham Asylum and The Dark Knight - how in the *hell* would you not pick that deal up?
I'm only sad I lost my job two months ago and can't swing three hundred bucks for a system right now D:
CheeziePotato @ Dec 1st 2009 12:06AM
First Nintendo, now Sony?
Peter Moore @ Dec 1st 2009 12:09AM
People buy things?!
CheeziePotato @ Dec 1st 2009 12:09AM
Anyways, you're welcome Sony. I bought a PS3 for my dad on his birthday, which was yesterday. He was a big Nintendo fan back in the day, but loves his new PS3.

Damn!
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith [ATDF Co-Founder] @ Dec 1st 2009 12:13AM
Sony...i'd like to apologize for the nasty things I said about the PS3 from 2006-2008. And for that term paper explaining why the 360 was better. And for making fun of PS3 owners.
I love your console now.
Dreaded Fear @ Dec 1st 2009 12:18AM
I don't know why you would apologize. It was their fault for the console sucking before.
This is what Sony should have been doing after the first year of the launch. Better late than never to finally bring out what matters: the games.
sonicspike41 @ Dec 1st 2009 12:19AM
It's okay, we forgive you. Well, I can't speak for all the fan-tards out there, but I forgive you.
I seriously think that if people actually gave it a chance they'd like it. Instead I constantly hear people excited for one or two games, but say all the rest are utter crap just cause they are on PS3, even if they are multi-platform.
One friend even swears that MW2 is laughable because during PS3 split-screen the game can barely hold a decent frame rate, saying that it constantly stops or slows down.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith [ATDF Co-Founder] @ Dec 1st 2009 12:22AM
I wasn't particularly nasty, but I was hurt that Sony had turned their back on me.
They've come a long way since then. Thank you, School of Economic Hard Knocks!
Traceur_Ryuk [Founder of The Anti-EMCB(tm) and co-leader of ATDF] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Dec 1st 2009 12:31AM
I was theexact opposite of you, I always said bad things about Xbox, (Mind you, this is when FF XIII, DMC 4, and Tekken 6 were still considered exclusive). Those, and MGS4, were the reasons I bought a PS3. But god am I glad they brought plenty of new IPs.
@Sonicspike: Wow, do you hang out with a bunch of 12 year olds? (Or college frat boys, same thing)
sonicspike41 @ Dec 1st 2009 1:30AM
@Traceur
Well one of them is a 22 year old Nintendo-fanboy (his love for Nintendo is matched only by his love for Square Enix). He's going to a Texas college to be a game developer, go figure...
The other recently turned 18.
Mostly just two friends of mine that do it, but god is it annoying.
I always hear all the arguments: for Nintendo (22 year old), against Nintendo/Sony (18 year old), against Sony/Microsoft (22 year old), and for Microsoft (18 year old).
The only decent Sony love I see is from the 22 year old, who plans to get a PSP mostly just because of Dissidia and Crisis Core.
/rant (And by the way, aside from the Wii's control scheme, I love all three companies).
QAguy @ Dec 1st 2009 11:25AM
"Back then didn't want me, now I'm hot...all on me"
The only thing worse than a fanboy are fair-weather fanboys. It's so funny because this time last year, everybody and their blog had a snarky comment related to the PS3. The funny thing is, the PS3 has BEEN awesome for sometime now, peoples heads were just so far up their asses they didn't realize it.
Congrats on all the new friends Sony.
KenpachiZaraki @ Dec 1st 2009 12:09AM
You're welcome Sony, i've had mine since launch and its still going beautifully!
Phylogenetics @ Dec 1st 2009 12:09AM
What the hell is with all the 'thanking'? It's time to be a man, Sony. You don't need these people.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith [ATDF Co-Founder] @ Dec 1st 2009 12:11AM
Yeah, how well did that work from 2006-2008?
sonicspike41 @ Dec 1st 2009 12:12AM
They played the "We don't need you" card enough, it got them a nice shiny bronze trophy that read "Participation award".
Anything they can do to get more sales without screwing up their image or pissing off loyal customers is fine by me.
Oh, and Sony, at the very least, thanks for all the awesome PSN games like Flower and the PixelJunk series.
Phylogenetics @ Dec 1st 2009 12:19AM
Just once I want to see a company publicly say "Fuck You!" to its customers and then add a $50 annual online charge or something.

I apologize. That was horribly forced.

Phylogenetics, I think that company did say, "fuck you!" when they released another 100 dollar wi-fi adapter. Infact it came with two middlefinders!
