- VideoGamer (70/100): "James Cameron's Avatar: The Game is easily one of the best movie licensed games I've ever played, but at the same time it's not good enough to stand alone as a must-own title. While the presentation is great and the combat generally enjoyable, the missions leave a lot to be desired - and there's little of the sense of wonder that the movie promises."
- IGN (68/100): "There's nothing disastrous here, and the RDA shooter side of things performs well enough to be occasionally enjoyable. The quest design, including both the main and side tasks, is about as generic as they come. Go here, collect this, plant these bombs, or kill this and then return to me."
- Game Informer (65/100): "These shortcomings are a shame considering the game's interesting gameplay twists. Avatar features a solid RPG element that unlocks new armor and upgraded weapons at a steady pace. Players also unlock new skills (i.e. buffs) that help spice up combat a little, but can't overcome the gameplay imbalances."
- GameSpot (55/100): "It's not a bad game, and portions of it are competent, if not quite remarkable. But Avatar wears thin quickly, and the story is too fragile to compensate for the deficiencies.
Metareview: James Cameron's Avatar

Here's a dreary, uncomfortably true comment about the state of movie-licensed games: When we saw the average that James Cameron's Avatar currently sports on Metacritic, our first thought was, "Wow, a 65, not bad!" Here's how it was sized up by a few outlets:

my PS3 is over 2 years old...so its no longer under warranty....and I left my PS3 on pretty much the entire first year...only turning it off for updates.....so the AVERAGE person most likely wont fun into that issue until year 4 or 5.....

I would think you could find a fan fairly easily, especially from the dead 60GB units that have been parted out on eBay.

It's nothing unique, so look around and maybe find something similar?

This is exactly why I don't run Folding@Home on my PS3. I need this bitch to work until the end of the generation. I can't buy three PS3's like I did PS2's, I'd go broke (or I'd have to stop buying school books)

oh and folding at home wasn't an issue....the fan didn't even kick into overdrive then.....it came mostly from being on a game.....I hate turning a game off.....so I will just leave it on to avoid going thru all the startup and loading again....

Your life must be pretty meaningless if you're still bitching about a Ubisoft conference a few months ago.

based on the Metareview, it wouldn't be *entirely* unfounded to say this Avatar game sucks.

i heard this game supports 3D TV's and glasses. but none of the reviews are testing that part.

I don't know anyone who actually owns a 3D TV. Do you have one? I totally would test it, but Ubisoft didn't send me a 3D TV in the package. :(
Over the weekend I played through as Na'vi, and now am about half-way through as RDA. The campaigns are similar, but different enough that if you like one, you'll probably enjoy the other. I really like it so far, but it's not a AAA title - not that there was ever any doubt, mind you.

Don't want to sound rude here, but can't we just keep our mediums separate and focused? These movie-licensed games just seem like a quick cash grab.

I may give it a try if I can get it fairly cheap.
