I have a Wii and to be honest with you, the last time I powered the thing was when Mario Kart came out for 2 days only. I bought Resident Evil Dark side Chronicles last week and I'm yet to remove the plastic, because of... a) I'm a huge RE fan(have all games) but I hate RE on rails and b) Because Wii su*** pretty much.

Its interesting how some people really have no interest at all in getting a Wii. I've had mine since launch, played it every day, paid full price for it, and loved every minute of it. Currently own about 15 games, have owned about 30 total, plus my GC collection and about 40 downloaded WiiWare/VC titles. I can't even imagine not owning it honestly. I love it as much as i do now without even owning key titles like Mario Kart, SSBB and Galaxy. I'm not dismissing the other consoles at all, i'm mad keen for a 360 when i have the money as there are several key games and franchises i love to play they simply dont exist on Wii. At the same time, the Wii will remain my primary gaming console with the 360 being the secondary console/upscaling dvd player to play franchises i am missing out on (DMC, RE5, Fable, Final Fantasy, GoW,Dantes Inferno etc etc). I would have got a Ps3 if FFXIII had remained Ps3 exclusive, heck the only games there i would miss out on by getting a Ps3 would be Fable 2 (heard the first was better anyway) and Gears of War (finished 1 and 2 anyway). So really, as a God of War fanatic, should i get a Ps3 instead perhaps.

See now this is why i've held back. It's not just financial, its breaking down the differences between the two to find the one i want. The Wii was a no brainer, franchises like Mario, Zelda and Metroid, made it so i needed a Wii, and games like The Conduit, Mad World, the Guitar Hero games, the Pikmin remakes, Tiger Woods 10 and plenty of others are just icing on the cake. The differences between the 360 and Ps3 aren't as obvious as 99% of games are on both anyway. What to do......

The Wii has definitely lost some luster but it is far from a worthless console. I bought mine on launch day and still get some game time with it every week. I play the 360 more, but it's a nice second console, just as expected.

@Foetoid

Fable II was pretty good. If you're planning on using the other console as a upscaling DVD player, you should know that the 360 (and possibly the PS3, I don't know) only upscales DVD's if you hook it up with VGA or HDMI. The PS3's upscaling capabilities are much better, though.

It all comes down to exclusives. If you're interested in the motion controls, the PS3's Sphere controllers are somewhat similar to the Wiimotes, so you may like them more.

And if you're a God of War fanatic, I'd say PS3.

meh, dont try to justify a wii with remakes, tiger woods and the conduit.

guitar hero isn't even exclusive to it either, so that should have no bearing.

also, i think zelda and mario are crutches for the Wii, while they are awesome, they are keeping nintendo from trying new IPs.

it's like, 98% of all the games suck, but hey, we got mario, BUY IT

the only value I've personally found in a Wii comes from A Boy and His Blob and a game coming next year called Fragile Dreams. But I'll probably buy both and emulate them... just not worth buying a console for 2 games, IMO.

@Foetoid I was a big Nintendo fan, I still own NES, SNES, N64 and like I said before a Wii (never owned a GC though). Games like the Donkey Kong Country 1-3 it's one of the most fun I ever played. The last Mario I played was Mario 64, awesome game, but after the N64 I start loosing interest on Nintendo and by consequence I didn't get the GameCube, at that time I was all Playstation because of Resident Evil games and not even the exclusives RE games for GC made me buy a GC. The only reason I really bought a Wii it was because of the 2 exclusives GC games and the 2007 release of RE Umbrella Chronicles. Today for Wii I own Wii Sports(came with the system), Wii play (because of the extra controller), RE: UC, Mario Kart and now RE: DSC, I guess I can count RE Remake and RE Zero for GC.
But what I really don't like about the Wii it's the motion controller, I don't want to play games standing up or waving my arms and etc.

What are some of you people playing that's making you stand up and wave your arms around??

I own a large amount of Wii games (larger than my 360-PS3 games combined) and its filled with a large percentage of "gimmicky"/"interesting concept"/"niche" games that most others would pass: Weirdest thing ever is:: I NEVER HAVE TO STAND UP OR FLAP MY ARMS AROUND FOR MOST OF THEM.

I swear, it's like everyone's playing WarioWare or something...

It's true. Even if you're playing Wii bowling, all you need is a flick on the wrist. I have a few Wii games, including the fantastic No More Heroes. The Wii is not my favorite system, but it certainly does have its place.

The wii is so dead...

Is there anything left for the platform other than Nintendo's own goods and the occasional rail shooter?

@kentuckyfried

Yes, No More Heroes 2. Though if you didn't like the first one, no.

I was a huge Nintendo fanboy until the launched the wii. Until the 360 came out the only consoles I owned were Sega and Nintendo consoles. The PS2 had a lot of what I considered casual games I wasn't interested in, and the xbox basically only had Halo and the Conker remake for me to be interested in, so I got the Gamecube. I was pleasantly suprised by all the fun and interesting NEW games for the GC, like Pikmin. Pikmin was a perfect example of Nintendo coming up with a new IP and making it fantastic. But on the wii, where is the amazing new ip? It's certainly not wii sports. While I bought a wii to play games like Galaxy, Metroid, etc, that's not enough to really hold up a platform for me.

Some of my friends say "Nintendo already made their Mario, Metroid, and Zelda games so I don't care if they make anything else this generation" Which makes me think why even own a wii anymore? They say they're making a new Kirby, an new Pikmin, and there are rumors of a new Kid Icarus, and they all sound exciting but they're also nowhere in sight. Meanwhile, tons of amazing AAA games are coming out constantly on both the 360 and the PS3, making the Wii seem like old news.

Sure, but then if you plan on purchasing a game with the wii you can say it's a wii with a free game. Unless you're just buying the wii and will never have the use for anything walmart has to offer, you're still saving $50, regardless of when that goes into effect.

Only if you use that $50 to buy accesories. Figure another wii remote and two nunchuks come out to a total of $80, and that's only if you're just wanting to play 2 player on the free wii sports.

Ugh, people. Unless the Wii will be the ultimate purchase of your life, you're guaranteed to spend another $50 on DVDs, groceries, shampoo, shaving razors, etc. You may not be saving $50 immediately off the Wii, but your next $50 are covered. So it all works out.

Unless you do not eat, shave, clothe, etc (and judging by some of you, that may be true).

yeah, I don't understand why Joystiq thinks getting a gift card makes the purchase less expensive. you're still paying $199 unless as Shag said you can use the gift card on the original purchase.

for example, I bought COD: MW2 from Amazon and they gave me a $20 credit towards my NEXT purchase. I still PAID the current retail price for the original game ($60), so I didn't SAVE any money on the purchase of COD:MW2, although I will save $20 on the next purchase (AC2).

granted, you're getting $50 for free to spend as you want, but odds are you'll end up using that $50 to make another (potentially large) purchase.

If they killed your mom, they might have made money on it. Apparently they have been known to put life insurance policies on their own employee. There was one person who lost her husband and walmart earned close to 5 million off it. They call it a "dead pesents" policy, as if to add insult to injury.

$10 makes a big difference.

In all honesty most games on the Wii should already be $40 with the lack of polish most give them.

When I see a possibly good Wii game, I consider it.
When I see it's $50, I turn around to look at the 360/PS3 section.

But when I see it's $40, I check my wallet. 2 $20 bills (and a few $1 bills) seems much easier to spend than 3 $20's just to get some change that I'll spend in the future and have no idea what on.

It depends. $10 off on a non-Wii console game is still $50, and at the end of the day that's still a lot. I'm much more comfortable paying $40 for a Wii game, because, to me, that $10 goes farther.

I like how $50 for a 360/PS3 game is considered a "discount." I remember when cutting-edge new games were $50. I've never agreed with games upping their MSRP to $60.

I'm not sure but you may actually be able to have the 50 bucks applied toward purchase of wii. I just bought this today and the clerk actually activated my free 50.00 gift card and handed it to me before I paid her for the wii. No matter what you do with it you still get 50 dollars worth of free product. I used most of it at the same time I was there buying the wii. On personal hygiene products, etc...it is an instant gift card. I did not use it (50 bucks) for anything to go with the wii as it is a Christmas gift for my grandkids and their parents know they are getting it and have been buying games and other stuff to go with it. Considering I paid 249.00 last year for the exact same thing for another grandson in college this was a pretty good deal.
