I already have a 'pet' for my Avatar.

His name's 343 Guilty Spark and I didn't pay a penny for him.

Because there's a general hatred of me by some fanboys, because I don't buy into the hype and marketing BS spewed by the companies.

It looks like that pet gave a good home to a steamy loaf. Right on top of that Avatar's head.

Downvote if you want, but Microsoft is majorly shitting on the hardcore. We've got these godawful Avatars, the NXE, a push toward 'family friendly', all these 'social' features, etc.

I buy a console to play games. That's why I bought my PS3, and that's why I've bought every console I have.

@ Solace

It's the same with MMO players buying extra gear with RL money. It's just pixels.

Well, at least those pixels in MMOs do some good. Until the game devs shut the servers down.

Why jump to criticizing what people spend their money on? Everyone buys stupid stuff. We are humans. We thrive for aesthetics, albeit virtually or physically.

I don't get why people are content to waste MS points if they "only have a few hundred left". All those few hundred points added together could actually buy something worthwhile, like an Arcade game, rather than on playing dress-up with your frakkin avatar.

thats my point Spartan....you can't get SHIT with 300 MS points on XBLM.....I suppose I could have used it to buy a song or 2 on Zune Marketplace but I have a ZunePass so that would have been pointless.....

So it's better to spend points on an XBLA game that you had no interest in getting, then to spend it on something that you think looks cool? It's no different than paying for wallpapers, rugs, or clothes in real life. It's probably just as important too. IE - Not at all. People still dig on not looking like a douche and standing out though.

@ Samuel, I'm no-one's judge. And your right, people can and will spend their money on whatever they see fit.

It's just that I don't have a high opinion of those that choose to buy virtual clothing, pets etc.

Fair enough if you will get enjoyment/benefit out of interacting-with/using said virtual pet/accessory etc. But if it does nothing, to me, it's a waste of money.

@ Chris

I see your point, but the next time something i want costs 1200 points, i'll be glad I only have to buy 900 because i kept my existing 300. (ignore the exact numbers, you see my point)

I don't know why your comment was downvoted. I mean, sure, maybe the answer is simply one of paying for aesthetics, but to downvote a comment that is simply questioning the merits of paying for such things.. seems a bit unnecessary.

Also, I think this page should show up in google search results for mii's, so.. mii mii mii mii mii

chris buy 3 indie games which cost 100 points each instead of spending money on this crap. That way you help fledgling devs as well. When you buy a lightsaber for "fake you" that no one will ever see its a slap in the face to every one of them.

rv,

Although I cokmpletely agree with you I still
have to agree that people should be able to chose
how they spend their money.

Also, us buying video games can be seen as a slap in the face
to people who are starving all over the world.
How far are you willing to go to help struggling people?

had he said make more from LIVE GOLD memberships than Sony will on the PS3 then I would have agreed....I mean if most people use a Credit card to auto renew the membership and they have that there for 4 years....they have made $200 + however much they paid for the console off of each person....

but the avatars?? C'MON SON!!
