We initially dismissed the Friiboard, a Balance Board attachment created by the husband-and-wife team at Swiit Game Gear, as another inconsequential plastic Wii add-on, or worse, a Roll & Rocker for the Wii. The device adds a convex surface to the bottom of the Balance Board, adding real movement to the board, with the goal of enhancing the realism of snowboarding and skateboarding activities.
But upon viewing the (very homemade) video, we think it actually looks like it could be fun. It gives the Balance Board a little wobble, but not so much wobble that it will destroy your body, loved ones and home like the Tony Hawk Ride board. One thing the device shares with Ride: it costs a lot. At $44.99, its price makes it a shaky proposition.
I hope they have warnings ALL over this thing. You thought Wii motes into LCDs were bad. How about faces and legs and arms.
I guess the mat is required so you don't slip and crap open your anus on those hardwood floors. Great idea, but man o man there is going to be some hurtin. Please record your accidents and post to youtube.
I've watched a lot AVGN, but I actually had the Roll & Rocker and Silver Surfer. The R&R never worked and Silver Surfer was the worst game I've ever played. Nah who am I kidding, Shaq Fu was worse.
yeah dude the whole point of sexual innuendos is that you're not supposed to give it away by explaining it, but in this case you failed so miserable it was still awful even with the explanation.
I would say $10-15 would be a better price and it comes with straps for your feet. I don't think it's hard to imagine people falling off the balance board from this thing.
It is an absurd amount of money; but if Wii owners have proven anything this generation, it's that they have large reserves of cash they're willing to throw at anyone with a Wii product.
Foot straps are a terrible idea for this thing - it's either lose your balance and stumble off of it, or lose your balance and fall face first through your coffee table with a 5 pound lump of metal and plastic strapped to your feet.
The frustrating thing is that a lot of Wii owners would spend $50 on a hunk of plastic like this before they would buy a critically-acclaimed third-party title for the same price. And I'm primarily a Wii gamer, so yeah. It's frustrating that some of my favorite games sell so poorly.
Well, the inflated price really isn't a surprise in the market of video game peripherals. They're right up there with iPod accessories as far as price inflation. If it cost $0.10 to make, it's $9.99. Anything above that, $19.99.
That's pretty steep for what it is, but it does seem like a decent idea. It's one of the few plastic add-ons for the Wii that serves a real purpose and may actually enhance the user's experience.
