And apparently also interior damage to some cars. Although I guess we'll have to wait till GT6:omgthatsnasty edition to see driver damage.

from what i've read damage is only available on certain models. WRC and NASCAR, maybe a handful others. Not every car. Is my information incorrect?

I'm not sure why they wouldnt put damage in the demo, seeing as its one of the major additions to the game, would make sense to show it off.

I guess you could call it a demo - looks like it's just a time trial and will only be for a limited time.

Regardless of the car details, Forza and GT render thier replays and vids at a higher res than during a race -- giving the vehicles and environments a more realistic look in photos and during replay vids. Racing games have been doing that for years now, so this isn't some secret practice.

The proof is in the replays -- both drop to 30 FPS instead of the normal 60 to accomodate the added detail.

Are those real screen shots? Some of them look way too good to be rendered real-time.

It's like Forza 3. The replay/picture/video modes render higher-res textures, effects and an overall better image than the 'in-race' car models. Still looks amazing, mind you, just not as good as some of the replay shots my lead you to believe.

While the car models of both games are similar, GT's lighting engine is a league above Forza's -- giving GT the edge.

I read that they used a whopping 6 months designing each individual car. So either they work incredibly slow or it must be more detailed than Forza.

Go to cockpit view and look behind you in either game. You'll notice GT has the whole interior of their cars modeled and Forza has just the dash.

In my view Gran Turismo 5 has already been eclipsed by Forza 3.

I have serious doubts that GT5 can approach Forza in terms of gameplay, ease of use, community and multiplayer support.

GT5 Prologue was a glimpse into the masochistic future of the series, which requires interminable, repetitive play to get anywhere. Just like your favorite 1980s arcade game that relied on you popping coins to turn a profit. Why that style of play has continued through to the PS3 I'll never know.

It may look better, though.

GT5 will have more content than FM3. As good as Forza is it's still not Gran Turismo and it will never be GT. For some people that's a good thing as the GT series is made for the hardest of the hardcore racing fans. I'm currently building up my garage in GT:PSP in anticipation of the release. Basically there isn't a game in the world that will give you more content for $60 than GT will. NASCAR, WRC, GT and everything in between with nearly 1,000 cars (I believe) and physics based damage makes this the definitive racing game of all time.

I had Forza 2 and it was a solid game but to me it felt more arcade like (ala burnout or MC) than GT or even the underrated NFS: Shift.

This isn't a game for people who want to paint cars ... It's for people who want to tune every aspect of their car to get the most performance and suit their preferences. It's a gear heads dream come true.

Ok, then perhaps it's a totally different market.
Your hardcore is probably what I would term masochism ;-)

But for Gameplay and general ease of use I've found Forza to be better than GT5.

I will give you the number of cars (but how many of them do you really want? Do you really want a minivan for example), the graphics so far look better than what I see in Forza 3, the driving physics feel about equal to me from Prologue.

So you're left with the multiplayer, the general gameplay flow, features etc.

These things we won't know for certain until GT5 is eventually released, but judging from Prologue I'd give the nod to Forza :-)
