Actually, BioWare's part of the expanded universe is better than some of Lucas's work.

Especially Attack of the Clones...

Wow, being down-voted around these parts is like a good thing. I'll go ahead and say:

1. The ratio to good Lucas Arts games is like 2:23

2. The last three episodes of star wars were, I feel, the best of the Pixar movies.

3. but the only good Star Wars movies were the ones that George Lucas didn't even direct.

I'm not sure why you're getting downvoted, Bradworth, but I agree. 'Attack of the Clones' is the the worst of all the 6 films in my opinion, with the only good scenes being a) the opening sequence is ok, b) Dooku talking to the captured Obi-Wan, and c) something else that I'm not sure is there but I don't want to totally dismiss it. Oh, maybe Obi-Wan talking to the clone master.

The term 'expanded universe' is almost entirely referring to things not created by Lucas, but rather creations allowed by Lucas by others to 'expand' on the stories told within the films, as long as the stories or creations don't contradict or missmatch timelines set within the films. I don't follow all of it too closely as I'm more of a 'movie guy,' deeply into the creation and making of the films and characters rather than what the fuck General Thrawn is doing after the second war on Khashiik or whatever some comic said.

Awesome guild name, I might have to keep an eye on future posts to find out a site for your guild, I do love myself some good MMOs, its outstanding when a game (WoW) is 5 years old and I have been playing it since it launched and I haven't lost interest yet, good in-game and real friends really keep a game going. Cant' freakin wait for SWTOR for that reason alone... besides being Star Wars.

"the unanswered question of whether there will be space flight, and maybe even interstellar combat"

And let's hope there isn't. I don't want to see this until the SECOND expansion. SOE go so side tracked by space flight they left too many things on the ground broken/nerfed that the problems just kept piling on. Let's not encourage BioWare to lose focus on core gameplay until it's so solid they can do crazy stuff like space simulation in an MMO.

While I hope it turns out to be as great as everyone thinks it's going to be, Warhammer, LoTRO, and DDO have taught me to be extremely leery of prior-IP based games (whatever could be say about any of the three, all three would be far better games if not for the limitations imposed by their non-MMO origin IPs), and Warhammer (again), AoC, and Aion, to name just three of a legion, have taught me to be even more leery of any MMO the gaming lolpress builds up as the next big thing.

When the hype machine for an MMO passes 11, it's time to get nervous, and this game is so far past 11 you'd need Hubble just to see it.

I'm wondering the same thing as Otis.

Randy, did it feel more like you were playing a KOTOR style game or more along the lines of other MMO's.

I've never been able to get myself deeply into any MMO's before but being a hugh fan of KOTOR and most Bioware games i'm am really looking forward to this one. That is as long as it plays more of a KOTOR style.

Me and some friends are actually looking to set up a guild for this one (They actually have MMO experience haha) but we're called The Drunk Side and we're a casual PvP and PvE Republic guild with the focus on keeping it fun while still kicking ass. I'll have a site back up and running soon so if anyone is interested just keep on Joystiq and i'll post something in a future SWTOR post.

For sure, we're just starting up specifically for The Old Republic so we're looking for lots of new members.
Like i said we just want a casual guild, focused on keeping it fun but still excelling at the game and becoming a top guild. I'm currently remaking our website/forums, it will be up and running soon just check a future SWTOR post and i'll have a link for everyone.

If you're playing MMO's for graphics then you're playing them for the wrong reason.

What's up with the Korriban and rogue combat droids? Seriously, there was another tomb full of them in KOTOR 1, too.

It's like they multiply or something >.>

2 words: Boot Camp.

Mac as a platform is very small, so outside of Blizzard games and third-party ports years after the fact, you won't get many Computer games made directly compatible with Mac.

i have a feeling they will make it mac compatible though, being that both KOTOR games were on macs.

if not though, i am going to have no choice but to go the boot camp route regardless of how much i despise windows all together

I think the KotOR on Mac thing falls under the "third party ports years after the fact" that I mentioned. BioWare didn't make the Mac port, and it didn't come out until years after KotOR came out on PC. I guess that's why the Mac commercials don't mention gaming at all.

I've never been a big fan of MMOs but man... Making a Star Wars one is making this very tempting... Star Trek Online looks great as well.
