Oh, you think it's funny, making your virtual soldier explode with the force of a small supernova every time he gets killed? Yeah, we suppose it is. Know what else is funny? Getting banned from Xbox Live. Oh, wait, did we say funny? We meant really unpleasant. However, according to Xbox Live's Director of Policy and Enforcement, Stephen Toulouse, using Modern Warfare 2's Javelin glitch (an unsavory practice demoed in this video) is cheating, as defined by the service's Terms of Use. According to Toulouse, anyone caught self-detonating will be banned for 24 hours, or if caught repeatedly, two weeks.
For us honest folk, it seems the wait for a patch, which will cull the kamikaze epidemic, will be short. Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling tweeted yesterday that a fix is currently being tested, and, "once it's cleared, we'll be urging it through Microsoft & Sony certification as fast as possible." Keep the fire, troops. We can make it through this thing together.

where was MS when Halo2 had all those physics glitches that made every fucking douchebag jumping out of the levels to snipe you constantly? that wasn't cheating? granted the MW2 glitch seems like it'd be annoying, but I haven't run into anyone using it when I've played.
thank Bungie for Halo3.

The game technically allows you to yell racial slurs over the microphone, but that doesn't mean you should do it, and it is a bannable offense.
In practice, however, the chances of actually getting caught and banned for using this glitch is laughably small.

so WE get banned for THEIR mistake, oh joy. Xbox Live mods really need to give the banhammer a rest or I'll just retire Live altogether and stay on PSN.

Hard to find? You hold one button and press another. Activision's QA really let them down.

I'm not sure you understand what "Game Breaking Glitch" means. Please, develop a sense of honor, if you don't mind...

Not sure if you're talking to me but I understand it's an issue and I'd be pissed if this happened to me. But at the same time, it's a glitch IW should have caught and fixed. I just don't think suspending someone from Xbox Live just because of the way they play is appropriate.

Yeah but it's like getting out of a level and no one is able to kill you. Just because you can do it doesn't mean it isn't an exploit. It's f*cking clear as day cheating. I've had to stop playing MW2 for the past two days because this kind of thing ruins it. Banning people is one of the nicer things I want to do to these jerks online using it.

You know, I feel sorry for the people who fall victim to this BUT it's a goddam glitch. If someone is exploiting it, maybe it shouldn't have been there? I mean I remember when I accidently found an exploit in World of Warcraft that duplicated items and so I accident duplicated a full iron bar stack. I reported the exploit to Blizzard and know what they did? They thanked me, let me keep the iron stack, and patched it out within a week.
This? This seems like they're punishing their fanbase for finding shit wrong with their game. Yes it's an exploit but considering the steps, it is something that COULD be done accidently. I just got banned because your game is broken?!? FUCK YOU.

Just because you CAN do it doesn't mean you should!!!!!!!! If I see an unlocked car should I jump in take stuff? Hey they left the door unlocked, so it's not my fault!
Come on people. It's obviously NOT supposed to be part of the game (thus the "glitch"). If MS, Sony, or Activision say "do it but with consequence", then deal with the punishment for your crime.
These exploits ruin the game for everyone except the douche-bags using them. Just because you bought the game doesn't mean you can be an ass-hat and get away with it.
If you suck at the game then just deal with it and get used to dying every 3 seconds, like me.

There are games that kick and ban people for griefing via teamkilling, even though it's "part of the game".
Clearly, this was not supposed to be a part of the game. Yes, they should have caught it, but they didn't. And yes, they should fix it, which they are. But I have no problem with the people that are abusing it being banned in the meantime. It sure would have been nice if all the shield glitchers and out of map glitchers had been banned in Gears 2.
And FFS, it's a ONE DAY ban. This is not something that is likely to happen on accident, and it's even less likely that they'll actually catch someone doing it. The only people getting banned for this are the people that do it over and over and over again to the point where it gets noticed. The odds of you accidentally doing this AND getting caught for doing it that one time are astronimically small.

True, seems I missed your point there; that using exploits is cheating.. I was pointing out the ridiculousness of being banned for taking advantage of an exploit in game. People weren't banned for going under the map in W@W and that was much worse.. considering I haven't encountered this "javelin glitch" even once. Whereas W@W's "roundhouse" map was unplayable.

It's one of the most annoying things I've ever experienced in an online game, and I've tried reporting everyone who used it, although I guess they're just NOW starting to take action about it.
And before all the bitchers say that it's in the game, so it's fair....no it's not. It's a mistake that was left in the game accidentally, and it's up to the regular person to use some fucking common decency and honor and not use it.
To people who don't understand what this is all about, it's a problem because the blast radius on these javelins is insanely HUGE. I killed someone all the way across a very very long hallway and was still killed by the blast. It's not like martyrdom where the blast is only right next to the dead body.

really, honor and decency? in a game where the goal is to get kills? people are always exploiting every glitch they can find, i'm not surprised.
however I'm kind of shocked that they would ban people for this, considering that exploiting in other MP games isn't considered cheating.

Exploiting glitches is cheating too. This isn't the only serious glitch in the game. There's one where if you shoot a pavelow as it's going down you get credited for 1 kill for every shot that hits the heli.
There's an infinite care package glitch, which is EXTREMELY game breaking. Bunch of other ones too.
Just because IW didn't test well enough doesn't make it ok to cheat.
