What ever happened to using pictures of Mr. Burns from the Simpsons for that?
I feel old.

As someone who is currently destroying themselves trying to beat CoD Classic XBLA on Veteran, I couldn't agree more. Punish us! It's what we like.

I always play games like this on easy. I don't play video games for a challenge since I face that every day in my career. I support the option of harder difficulties but easy setting better be "easy" so I can just kick back and enjoy the story and a "breezy" playthrough like I am now with ME1.

i don't know man, while i agree real life can be tough, playing games on easy is no fun, at least to me.

in shooters i always play on at least the second hardest difficulty the first time, RTS is always hardest setting, racing games always hard as possible.

someone about playing games on easy is bleh, i feel no satisfaction winning a race with a 10 second lead, but winning by .09 is like woah, sweeet.

When I was younger I use to always be all hoo-rah about playing games on harder difficulties but now-a-days I seem to have less time and far too many great games to experience. So if I play a RPG on a hard difficulty it takes months for me to finish and then I become frustrated and give it up.

I found my self NEVER finishing games for a couple years until I realized "just play on easy dummy!" Ever since I made that decission, I actually finish games now and am enjoying them more instead of having all these half finished games making me feel like I have ADD since I can't complete them and keep moving to a different one. LOL

thats what difficulty settings are for, you want it hard then play it on hard...unlike demons souls, its hard no matter what you do or how good you get at it...

Thats cool and all, but i have to agree with joystiq about the trail and error stuff i think if you want challenge then up the difficulty. But not to worry i think bioware will always have a unique challenge to offer with the in game choices you make.

Let's hope Bioware understands that hard and challenging =/= More enemy HP and all enemies spamming immunity. That shit was annoying as fuuuuuuck.

one of the things i liked most about Mass Effect was the fact that you could play the game as if watching a blockbuster movie, that you controlled. making it too difficult, or to where even a hard core gamer gets frustrated and you'll end up with a game that doesn't "flow"

i like challenge, but its important that the game keeps a good player on the edge of their seat, without requiring them to die and start over several times. Left 4 Dead 1 was great for this.

This doesn't bode well for Joystiq's review of ME2...

There were like 5 difficulty modes in the first game. Joystiq should just start off at super-noob to save themselves the time and any effort they might have to put into the game.

i dont miss the old days at all, i like how today theres a high probability i will see the end of the game because the designers want me to finish.

Difficulty settings do not add replay value to me and a large percentage of older games were excessively hard to finish for no good reason.

i want a challenge but the gap between being challenging and rage quiting is a very fine line: mass effect doesnt need to be challenging, it has to be good.

Finally something other then Demon Souls for us who like a challenge.
Hopefully the rest of the devs follow this example and leave causal to nintendo cause they do that best.

You know...this article reminds me of the beauty of difficulty settings. I hope they took into consideration those people that don't LOVE a challenge and just want to experience the world and story. Meaning that Easy isn't the new Normal and there is no more Easy mode.

Either way...looking forward to this game.

Ugh. I hope this means they didn't make that little RV thing even tougher to drive. That was the biggest nightmare in the original ME.

The original game Moon Patrol was much easier to control. And had infinite continues (as long as you kept putting in quarters)

It's partly because of whiny-ass reviewers about challenge and oh no trial and error that games are so easy they aren't worth playing anymore. Most things in life that are worth doing aren't going to come naturally the first time you try -- I get that people just play games now just to disengage and relax, but I (and I hope a lot of people) don't. I can't get engaged in games anymore since they're too easy and require no brainpower, since there's no penalaties for screwing up
