How awesome is Mass Effect 2? Well, if BioWare Community Coordinator Chris Priestly is to be believed, it is about twice as awesome. "You cannot fit this much awesome on one disc," Priestly stated on the BioWare forums, after revealing the game content will span two discs.
The necessity of two discs may mean a staggering amount of content for the RPG sequel -- the original was certainly no slouch in content. While some may lament the necessity of having to get up at least once during Mass Effect 2, Priestly promises that the disc swap happens at a dramatically appropriate point in the story. "Even though there is a disc swap, it occurs at a carefully planned place in the game (that does not interfere with gameplay) and is done once. You do not swap back and forth. 1 swap and then done."
We're going to fathom a guess as to when the swap will occur: immediately after the "suicide mission" revealed in the game's initial teaser.

@ Darth Bradwart: DVD wasn't big at all when PS2 came out. And statistically proven, Blu-ray has a faster adoption rate than DVD when it started. Just google the facts.

Personally, I'm just glad the game is grammatically correct. I'm not sure I could play Mass Affect.

It's more likely to be like this:
PC Gamers: I can has DLC?
360 Gamers: Aww I have to get off my ass?
PS3 Gamers: Ugh... another damn install
Wii Gamers: I'll just go on my PC then...
Because honestly, if all you have is a Wii, then you're not the kind of person who wants to play Mass Effect 2 anyway/

Wow, this will be epic. I guess it was expected since the PC version takes up around 15 GB. Hopefully we have an option to install one of the disks.

Lots of PC versions of multiplat games take up more space than the console versions, GTA4 takes up two discs on the PC, 14gb of hard drive space, more than what the 360's DVD-9 disc can hold! Same goes with FEAR 2.
What's up? I know PC hard drives are spacious and dirt cheap but come on! We ever gonna get Blu-Ray for games?

Carmack says three DVD's for Doom 4 and Rage. Blu-Ray needs a higher adoption rate before they switch to it.

Einhandlerkiller got it right. Driver settings and whatnot are handles by the OS and DirectX, not the game itself. PC versions of games generally have higher poly models, higher resolution textures, sounds that is uncompressed or compressed less, etc.
@RKN. Today's infrastructure can't handle blu-ray sized games? Why the hell not? Last time I did a fresh windows install I installed steam and downloaded at least 50gb of games in just that day. I understand that's not viable for everyone since a lot of people have shit internet connections, but to say the infrastructure in general can't handle it is just incorrect.
As for blu-ray for PC games, I'll pass. The $100 spend on a blu-ray drive is better spent on a terrabyte of hard drive space that doesn't require swapping discs.

Joystiq is always welcome.
I wonder if they'll have it so you can install both discs, then just leave the first in, without a swap?

I think some people take this posting thing way too serious. So what if you comment here a lot. I read a lot, not always comment, but I might as well could have.
Some people spend all their time watching porn on google instead, so this really isn't all that bad anyways.
Besides, my computer is right next to my tv so when I'm watching a movie or playing a game, i might pause at times to check on here.
Too each their own, I suppose. I personally don't have any problems with your posting habbits.
