Readers pick best webcomic: SkiFree

Long-running webcomic xkcd is at its best when it manages to combine humor, philosophy and references to old, old Windows games into a single strip. This much is clear when reading "SkiFree," the winner of last week's Webcomic Wrapup. Not only does it make its reader laugh while contemplating the harsh reality of death, but it also inspires them to find a copy of SkiFree on the internet, which they can spend the next five hours playing. (Oh, hey. There's one right now!)

Second and third place went Nerf Now's "Super Blue Toad Bros." and Penny Arcade's "Delicioso," respectively. If you've got a favorite gaming-related strip from this week you'd like to see in tomorrow's Wrapup, make sure you drop a link to it in the comments, or send in a tip!

also, pressing shift+alt+2 in solitaire will allow you to instantly win.

I don't really recall that well, but there is something you can do to go faster and get past it...though in my experience you're apt to crash and fail in the process. But yeah, you can do it - and I'm going to assume that's the right key since I don't think they'd mess up something so silly. Haven't played that game in ages.

I didn't get it. I never did play SkiFree.

I'm 26, but in the early 90s I was all about Nintendo and Sega. I started playing PC games in 96.

Oh.... I'm 19 but i used to play MSDOS games on my dad's PC, if you can afford a couple of well-wasted hours of your life.

I honestly don't like your Donkey Kong comics, but the second comic you posted was alright.

I laughed at the second one. That was pretty hilarious.

As I'm sure others have told you, sprite comics are a thing of the past. You should really work on your art skills, or photoshop skills, and start making your own art assets.

Yeah, but that's just out of the question, my drawings are TERRIBLE and there's no way in hell I'm making a stick figure comic :P
I'll stick to everything-I-can-make-a-comic-out-of-except-drawings kind of comics, if I get a few people to enjoy reading it as I enjoy making them, that'll be enough for me :D

You should try pixel art.

It's really just about practice practice practice. Work hard at something and you'll get better at it.

Your writing is nice, but you need something better than pre-rendered sprites to work together with it.

Honestly, the first one sucks but I smiled at the second one. Nice :P

Pre-rendered sprites work well for Dinosaur comics and stick man works well for xkcd and cyanide and happiness. If the material is good, the image is only a bonus.

Not a fan of the first one. It was a lot of unnecessary setup (5 panels) for a masturbation pun.

Why did I get an Antivirus scam from that site? I'm quite sure I don't have a virus, but it's the second time this week I see the same scam.

The best XKCD in the past couple weeks was the one with Lego's and organ donation. Mr. XKCD sees the minutia in life and magnifies it for hilarious results.

I liked the one on the Droid, as well... then again, that one was probably only funny because of all the iPhone app rejection stories I read on Engadget.
And, of course, there was the Spinal Tap one.

I like the art and coloring, and the blocking is good. But the dialog is really unrealistic. I guess if you mean that by wit he just writes characters who speak as if they're very removed from reality and down to everyone, then yeah I guess this is the wittiest piece of shit ever.
