Yes, I take it you don't know the original games so all that comes to your mind is those godawful piece of shit movies.

They might when they're the Aliens or the Predators. Nobody wants to be the humans... the humans always lose.

Oh thanks guys for downvoting me for just not knowing, that was an honest question.

Yeah all I'm familiar with is the movies, so I don't know what the quality of the games are. So it's a little shocking to me when people say they like AvP, because I was under the assumption that nothing good came from that IP. Guess I was wrong~

Still, it doesn't matter whether the game is good or not, that's not the topic.

This is a question of principles, you silly.

The games came well before the movies.

The earliest mistake they made with the movies was setting them in present day instead of the Weyland Yutani future, though I can understand it was probably done due to their low budgets.

AvP was watchable but still a disgrace to the franchise(s), but AvP-R was just complete shit. Worst movie I've seen in a while, and a lot of the things the Predator did didn't even make sense... Just was done as a "homage" of some sort. AvP-R = TOTAL FAIL.

I really respect this move by Rebellion, this coming from an Aussie.

The situation is absolutely ridiculous.. with studies suggesting that 90% of adult Australians believe there should be an 18+ rating for games. I'm deeply, thoroughly disgusted that one man, whose opinion is neither shared by the population of Australia nor the rest of the developed world, can take freedom of choice away from millions of adults in regard to an artistic medium. Atkinson is utter scum for even imagining that he has that right.

well he didnt imagine it really

apparently the one of the few rules in our democracy that doesnt actually symbolise democracy applies to the changes attorney generals can make

unanimous agreement != democracy

As many have said above, parents don't care about the ratings anyway. If only 18+ could play games like MW2, chat probably wouldn't be filled with foul-mouth racist douchebags.

Maybe it's the fact that kids are super-insulated, coddled and exposed to dreck like Barney and Tickle Me Elmo that makes them crave bloodlust shooters once they hit 10.

Only crazy people are affected by games in a negative way, when did you hear a story that involved video games that also didn't involve hallucinogens?

"We will not be releasing a sanitized or cut down version for territories where adults are not considered by their governments to be able to make their own entertainment choices."

Fucking zing. That is be the best underhanded-yet-politically-correct insult I've heard in months.

I respect the move but are people really still looking forward to this game after seeing the last game Rebellion just put out?

I am. Rebellion is responsible for the AvP game on the Jaguar, as well as the first AvP game on the PC. Their pedigree with this material is impeccible.

You do of course realize that there are multiple teams inside a development studio, right? I don't think the guys at Ubisoft Montreal simultaneously work on Avatar, Assassin's Creed 2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction. Seems like that would be rather exhausting...

It's not even worth the extra time (and thus money) it would take to remove the code, just to make your game shittier.

And by "The Australian Government" you mean "Attorney General Michael Atkinson", also known to us as "The Gaming Anti-Christ."
Five of the six Attorney Generals are for giving us an R18+ rating. They have agreed for a long time now. Michael Atkinson is the only one who disapproves because of his highly conservative views and ideas that "only children play games". We need all six to agree, and he is the stubborn wall that stands in the way. Unfortunately his area (SA) loves him. So they'll probably vote him back in at the coming election. However, his boss has been in a scandal recently, so hopefully another party will be voted in because of this, meaning Atkinson will be replaced by somoene on the successful party!
