Kudos to Riccitiello and EA. I'm so happy to hear that they have clarified their previous statements that new IP will still be coming out.

When they come out with Mirrors Edge 2, make it a downloadable game. I'd love to have it on my hard drive, and not have to deal with swapping discs whenever I want to play for a few minutes.

Not unless we all have the option to buy a disc too. I don't want my belongings to rely on a server, and I don't want to lose out on resale value.

Levi,
I totally understand where you are coming from, but for me, I don't really care about being able to trade in. I have a dozen games saved to my PS3 hard drive. The nice thing about that is that if I get burned out on a disc based game, I can pull up a game without getting up to switch discs and play for just a few minutes at a time. Its a ease of use thing for me.

But I guess since the market as a whole isn't ready for download only, a setup like SOCOM or Burnout would be the best. Slightly cheaper in a DL only, but available on disc for those that want it that way too.

I gotta agree with Bailers, it would be nice to see more games available as full downloads in addition to retail. Disc swapping isn't a big deal, but for those of us that don't resell our games every bit of convenience is welcome.

Mirrors Edge 2 I'll be buying off steam, though.

This is one sequel i can say i have been waiting for since I finished the game the first time.

I wanted it more once i did expert mode.
I want it so bad now that i have beaten it without shooting guns.

I cannot get enough of this game.

"I believe there are publishers out there that are milking franchises at their peril,"

Who could that be? ;)

Madden and co may be milked, but at least they've gotten better at making more changes each year.

This is sounding like the old EA (pre-douchebag era) who produced some games, even if they may not have been the huge success they were looking for.

Someone mentioned something about a Firefox script someone had made to automatically downvote my posts, but I'm not even sure that's possible.

There is a greasemonkey (Firefox plugin to run local javascript on a site) script to change the words of a post to whatever you want. They could easily make one to auto down-vote you. All they have to do is have it search for your name, then find the down-vote button next to it and click it.

Every page they load would automatically search for your name and down vote you for them. I can't see why anyone would go to such great lengths over one user, but it is very possible.

That would explain the rapidity of the downvotes-they're just refreshing the page. Wouldn't allow a downvote every time, but it would add up.

Not for nothing, but I basically ignore the comments these days because I don't feel like reading 500 posts from Bradwart. I don't downvote you because of it, I just ignore you. I'm sure I'm not alone.

If the almighty chris grant is going to stop downvoting for Darth then I guess everyone will be given the same treatment.
I always arrive when Darth is already fading & it's quite hilarious. I don't think it'll last long, just deal with it... or take a break from Joystiq.

Here's the killfilter script:
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/51770

* Does not delete at server level. This is not censorship.
* I strongly advise AGAINST altering the script for auto-downvoting. (I'm allowed to make that suggestion 'cause I wrote the script.)
* My id is 241487, and I fully expect that some of the people who have installed the script have blocked me with it. You're welcome.

@ Dreaded fear - yes people can up/down vote as they please, but don't forget everyone has the right to post as long as the admins allow it. Just because a few individuals don't care for what Darth has to say doesn't mean he isn't allowed his opinion. Let his posts be seen, and if people don't agree with it they can state why instead of downvoting posts like a bunch of pussies.

I agree that he maybe a troll sometimes and he hits the add comment button a little too often, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be allowed to comment. Whoever is randomly downvoting him needs to stop.

To me pumping out a new game each year isnt milking, with games like madden and fifa they at least make changes to it each year.

Milking to me is having a game, then selling you figurines from that game, while wearing a t shirt with that game on and slurping your game branded drink.

Basically shoehorning your brand onto totally unrelated games.

You mean like how EA had Dragon Age get two books prior to release, a flash game RPG and deals to get a tabletop pen and paper RPG into production? Is that the thing that EA doesn't do?

This is coming from someone who loves Bioware and actually prefers EA to the other big publishers, they're probably the best PC publisher right now(a few years ago no).

Aaaaaannnnd... You're absolutely right, most unfortunate as that means =(

They're going to have a hard time addressing the original's complaints, and appeasing everyone in the process. They'll definitely have to tiptoe around the overall design unless they want to just piss everyone off. Hopefully a more consistent and less linear level layout, more versatility in combat, and a more contrasting reward system (the same results whether or not you engage in firearm combat need to go, give the game a bit more duality) shouldn't be too hard to tackle. There are just way too many ways they can tackle it all...

IDK, Assassin's Creed was a 'proof of concept' compared to its sequel according to the Joystiq staff, and I agree. I think ME2 is a great opportunity to recreate the same situation, in which ME looks barebones compared to how they innovate on the sequel.

So EA is going to sharply reduce its number of titles and focus on high profit games. Except they are also going to give low-selling titles like Mirror's Edge another chance. And also, they are going to continue to rely on new IPs and bring new titles to market.

I'm guessing Riccitiello's not a math major.

It may not make a lot of sense on the surface, but I'm sure there's a reason. Mirrors Edge showed promise, so why would they dump it after one shot? Were Ico and Shadow of the Colossus major sales successes? Yet Sony is still releasing a third game.

I would guess they consider the new Medal of Honor a blend of a new IP and a sequel.

Probably not, but it can be done. EA has a LOT of franchises under their belt. Even with 20 games they can still push their annual sport franchises, one or two racers, a shooter per half, an RPG, a handful of sequels and add-ons and still have room for at least one new IP.

EA has definitely turned down the suck in recent years. I hope they continue this trend of new IPs. Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Spore and Skate were great games and hopefully we'll see more 'daring' products from EA's dev teams.

Even their old IP has been getting great. FIFA eclipsed Winning Eleven a few years back, I can actually stomach playing Madden 09 and 10 when my friends are bingeing on NFL, Battlefield: Bad Company had a shockingly enjoyable single player campaign, and Burnout Paradise is without question the most enjoyable driving game of this generation.

I don't know. I think FPS games and games like Madden are in the same boat.

Most people spend $60 every time a new Madden gets released just like they would for Halo or CoD. One major difference I see though is most FPS games are about 2-3 years apart. Madden games are pretty much yearly.

I think it would be better if they would include automatic stat updates for players so that every season you could just download an update for your game. Save the new game for when something amazing comes along, like something that changes the gameplay or graphics noticeably.

I'm not saying either Madden or FPS games are bad. Just that I don't think any game should really get a "free pass" for sequels every year unless that sequel really one-ups the previous title a lot.

innovation is great, I can't wait to see what the second game does. I wish more companies would take risks like that. Sony does it and sometimes it works out sometimes it doesn't the point is at least try!

Agreed. I can't believe some of the "games" that have come out because of Sony. I put quotes because they are usually more than just a game, but a unique experience. Things like Flower.

Any company that is willing to sacrifice a few sales for something new, original, and well made, is a good company in my book. It would be nice if they could set aside a certain amount every year for a few unique games. I mean games that they just don't expect to sell but are still great games. Little hidden gems or cult classics.
