Tolerances vary a lot for motion sickness. I avoid most FPS games in general because of it. This put's Mirror's Edge a bit out of my reach, but it's good to see EA considering giving this title a second chance even though the sales weren't out of the park. A lot of people seemed to really like it.

Wow.

Everything this guy says clicks true with me.

And, you know, he's not Bobby Kotick so that's already +1 million in the books.

All that's left is to watch Riccitielo taking a huge shit on Kotick's grave.

That is the first thing that I thought when I read this story: this guy is like a saint compared to Bobby Kotick.. I think that says a lot about how absolutely crappy Kotick handles his PR.

Yeah, I'm definitely happy to hear that they'd like to give Mirror's Edge another try.

It was a game that really grabbed my attention when I first heard about it, and even more so when I first saw the styling and heard the music.

Playing it was fun, albeit a bit awkward, but sometimes you've gotta give newbies the benefit of the doubt.

Now, here's hoping the awkward puberty phase has passed, and ME2 will emerge as an amazing sequel above and beyond the original.

New IP != Innovative.

Actually, new IP is always innovative.. It may not be extremely innovative, or innovative in certain areas like level design or game controls, but even if it's a clone of some other game, at least someone was putting enough thought into it to dress it up differently. Compare/contrast with Madden X or Call of Duty X, where all iterations are virtually identical.

You're guaranteed at leaset a smidgen of innovation if it's new IP.

I wish Tolkien were still alive. He'd totally write a poem about Riccitiello, that name has to come from Middle Earth.

I jest because I care, and this is by far the greatest comment any major video game corporate head has said in a long while. Go Mirror's Edge, keep the good stuff coming EA.

Definitely great news. I couldn't believe how innovative the first game was and I was sorry to hear that it didn't do very well in terms of sales. it was one of my gameplaying highlights in 2008. John Riccitiello obviously respects this game and understands its future potential.

There's too much interest not to do a sequel at this point I think. I look forward to it.

i loved mirrors edge, only problem was that it was criminally short. if they could double the length next time around i'll gladly buy it day of release.

Depends on your definition of innovation. By that logic the following sentence is innovative:

"I choked on the dust of the western shore. Dust? On a shore? Clearly, I was in the West."

simply because it has never been written before. That may be what John means, but it's not the standard use of the word.

Additionally, it is not a truism that an original IP is more "innovative" than a sequel; a sequel could introduce new game dynamics that were previously unseen in the industry, while many an original IP is, as you put it, "a clone of some other game."

Now if they can just somehow outsource the Mirror's Edge 2 combat mechanic to starbreeze...

I loved mirrors edge. It had it's flaws, like the combat system and the cutscenes. At times I found it ridiculously frustrating. But by the time I finished it, I loved it. I can't wait for more.

When I played Mirrors Edge I thought it was going to revolutionize First-Person games, where soon we'd all have realistic(er) body and camera movement, as opposed to the floating above the ground with no feet thing.

Short story shorter, I'm still waiting for this to happen.

I dig how he says in that article how he fought against the style of Mirror's Edge and basically caved in, yet still wants to do a sequel.

I think I am in love.

I can't wait to hear more on a mirror's edge 2! I haven't done all of the time trials yet, but I want more levels, more game mechanics, etc. Might the new game actually have a purpose for the backwards dive?
