After suffering from a series of delays, Codemasters rallycross racer DiRT 2 is arriving on PCs this December 8. As confirmed by Codies community man "Ice" on the developer's forums, the game will be arriving a week late to the PC due to a reason that is "far too boring to go into." He assures fans that it's not a "technical issue in any way, shape, or form," and that he has assurance from the US office that the game's ship date is confirmed for December 8. Just a few more days, PC-owning DiRT fans! We promise this time!

I think you'll be safe to wait for now. I'm the type of person who gets really twitchy when something new comes out and wants to throw his "obsolete" piece of crap out the window. But so far, DX11 doesn't seem to be a big deal, just yet. I'm seeing very little, if any visual difference in games with DX11.
I don't think there are games yet that will fully take advantage of it, especially console ports slapped onto the PC and they add a couple of tiny DX11 effects here and there. Is there a big difference in Dirt 2 on the PC and consoles?

With most games being ported from console to PC there's not really much point. It seems like most games that even support DX10 just added one feature from it and then didn't bother to optimize. I'd wait till a game comes out that actually does something useful with DX11 before spending a couple hundred on a new card.

Damn you all, here I'm stuck with a 48501GB for another year, trying to run games at 1920*1080.... Well COD:MW2 and TF2 are fine for now, but I worry for future games...

Tessellation, the most noticeable effect in the first Call of Pripyat screenshot in that Gizmodo link, is only available in (i.e., exclusive) the DirectX 11 API. Older ATI cards have tessellators, but tessellation was never part of the previous DX APIs. Plus those tessellators were primitive compared to those in the HD 5800 series.

I doubt people will stop pirating anytime soon, free is just too damn appealing, sure i could go buy Warcraft 3, or i could just download it.
I apologise to paying pc users like yourself.
I will probably get thumbed down for admitting this but im sure everyone on here has pirated.

I think with Steam's awesome weekend deals (and even midweek deals now) there's pretty much no shortage of great value games to buy for real.
It's just a real shame that the trend now seems to be to INCREASE the price of new retail PC games. Their solution for people who don't want to buy games is to make them more expensive and riddle the legit versions with DRM and limited activations?

I wish I could have a dialouge with PC pirates and ask them what they'd think of killing off the PC and only having consoles as the choice of gaming. That scenario wouldn't be pretty. But I also think developers sometimes blame piracy too much as well, maybe PC gamers have higher standards for games and won't take rehashes, bad ports, etc.

I'm a PC gamer who buys most of his games. One of the biggest issues I find is crap ports/releases. Saints Row 2 is an absolutely horrible port. It has performance and stability issues, and it's never going to be fixed since the developer abandoned it. It's still $30.
Another thing is heavily restrictive DRM. I bought your game, don't make me second class to people who pirated it. I will not buy a single game that uses something as bad as SecuROM. It certainly doesn't stop the pirates, as Spore quickly proved.

Right, they treat PC gamers like shit with DRM and whatnot and then wonder why their sales were so poor. They can get away with ripping off console gamers many times, but not with PC gamers. That shocks and disappoints them and they just give up on the PC, milking console gamers with DLC and overpriced peripherals is far easier.

I'll be honest I did pirate a few games of varying graphical levels a few months ago. It was to test the limits of my laptop though since I've never had a laptop capable of pc gaming before. I intend to get myself a few games on Steam now and buy the sequels to the games (Oblivion so I'll get Fallout 3, Rome Total War so will buy the new Total war game, and Dirt so maybe Dirt 2 if it is shown to be able to run on same power my laptop) so some money gets back to the developers.

I just wasn't that into the way the game felt. I'll admit I played the demo and not the actual game but the controls felt so floaty that it was hard for me to concentrate on racing. Basically, I don't think PC gamers are really missing out on much by not having D2.

I thought the controls felt great. I've never raced in the dirt in real life but I imagine traction is a hard thing to gain and control.

Well it felt especially floaty compared to say Motorstorm. It just felt very loose is all I'm trying to say.

I'm glad I only use my computer for looking at boobies, work and a little dabble in old games, if I was a PC gamer I'd be pissed, they never seem to get any love from developers, except valve but they are sucking on the proverbial dicks of console gamers right now.

Piracy is not stealing, it's illegal copying of data bits, not stealing physical media.
360 is as pirated as PC gaming is, hasn't suffered now, has it? Likewise all previous consoles, they've all been pirated. Yet developers soldier on, why not ask them why?
Your point is moot, want some cheese with the whine?

Piracy on the 360 may be a problem but it's nowhere near as rampant as on the PC. Even so, piracy on one platform does not justify it on another. Just because it isn't physical doesn't mean it isn't stealing. You are taking something, those bits of data, and giving nothing in return to the people who created and provided it. If everyone had the same mentality as you, developers would never make enough money to keep giving us great games. You're a plague to PC gaming and every game that you steal because you're too fucking cheap to drop a few bucks is another nail in the coffin. When more and more developers don't even spend time to develop properly for the PC, we know who's to blame.

How is that like Robin Hood? He stole from the rich and gave to the poor. There are plenty of dev studios SHUTTING DOWN because they aren't making enough money off sales. The people pirating these games are all people who can afford to throw hundreds of dollars into gaming PC's. You guys aren't poor. Seeding just means that you're all stealing as one greedy group. No one's going to stop you from pirating, but stop trying to justify or romanticize it. You pirate because you're cheap, and greedy. That's it.

What you fail to realise is, while stealing your neighbours car is illegal in pretty much every country, copying bits of data via internet downloads is not in some. So no, piracy isn't stealing.
You claim 360 piracy isn't as large as PC, you have no backing to those claims. Over a million 360's were banned in the last ban wave alone in less than one month for being modded. Why not compare the amount of downloads of certain multi-platform PC and 360 games, you'll find 360 is much more heavily pirated in general.
Furthermore, just because someone pirates something, doesn't mean if he didn't have the means, he would have bought it anyway. Most pirates would never have purchased the games anyway, regardless of whatever reason. Thus, making no difference to the developers in reality as they didn't lose anything in the first place. This also doesn't take into account the number of people who did pirate, enjoyed the game and decided to purchase either to support or to play multiplayer etc thus increasing revenue from the initial pirating.
As for the developers, well, like it or not, it's up to them to secure their copyrighted content and stop people pirating it, if they chose not to, that's their problem. Most people don't even give a flying rats f**k. Couldn't care less if X or Y dev stopped developing or went out of business or if Britney started selling crack on the streets. There'll be 10 times the number of devs/artists that crop up from their demise and you know it.
If you wish to spend money purchasing content, entirely up to you and good for you, it apparently gives you a warm fuzzy feeling. Thumbs up. However, for some, especially in non-illegal jurisdictions, we're entitled to consume what we can obtain for free. Good luck stopping us, I'm sure your flaming and rants will make a world of difference. Meanwhile, I've downloaded, played, enjoyed and now forgotten DiRT 2 on PC. You enjoy it tomorrow when you shell over those bucks. And remember, I couldn't care less if DiRT 3 is never produced, there's no shortage of other racing sims out there. Good day.

That's all I wanted to be clear. I don't care if you pirate, go ahead. I just don't want you to be confused, thinking it's for some cause or that it's justified. You pirate because you're greedy, and cheap. End of story.
