For the last few years, Crystal Dynamics has been pumping out nothing but Tomb Raider games. Normally we wouldn't lead a job listing post with such information, but when Crystal Dynamics says it's looking for developers who are "able to effectively create and lead the multiplayer vision and design effort," it gets us thinking that we could be tomb raiding with (against?) other actual human beings!
Considering this year's layoffs, we're not convinced that the developer could be working on another "AAA title" in addition to the Tomb Raider franchise. Given the leaked images of a "reboot" and assurance from Eidos "Life President" Ian Livingstone that Lara's next installment will "reinvigorate the franchise," we're pretty confident that Crystal Dynamics is hard at work on whatever the next game in the TR series will be. For now though, we have a job listing and plenty of educated guesses.

Sounds to me like they're taking ideas from Uncharted 2.

You say that like they are committing some vile and despicable act. JSYK, it's share and share alike in the idea driven world. Whether it is admitted or not, it built the foundation of some of the most beloved films, books, shows, and games. It's a bit foolish to curse such a practice.

You know, if you play through Uncharted 2 there is not a single piece of gameplay that is completely original. It's a game built completely off of mechanics tested again and again in other games. And you know what? It's awesome. Taking ideas and improving them or putting your own spin on them is how the industry works. They'd be smart to take ideas from Uncharted 2 as it would probably give us a better game.

First of all, they need to update her face to this gen, so it looks more natural, instead of just updating her 90's charactor model with HD graphics.

Next, they need to add like a almost pale skin tone with flowing long white hair medium build. After that, a sword that the inhabitant is a specter.

I think a reboot is in order. After Tomb Raider 2, I felt I didn't want to play any of 'm anymore, since I felt like I missed out on some of the story lines when I skipped 3, if there were any. The only one after 2 that I've bought was the Anniversary remake, since I always liked the original game. It was decent, not bad for 10 bucks.

Actually, I really liked Legend (the first reboot) but I didn't care so much for Underworld.

Underworld was actually really good. The only thing they could improved was the collision detection, it was horrible.

It'll be interesting to see if Crystal Dynamics can create a Tomb Raider that garners the sort of respect that has been absent since the latter half of the nineties. Looking forward to this one.

I thought Tomb Raider Underworld was supposed to be a reboot? And from what I heard it's actually a great game, too?

Legend was the reboot, Underworld was a sequel to it.

Damn, I think I was in the 4th grade the last time I heard Tomb Raider and AAA in the same sentence. Green Day was actually decent back then too though...

needing another reboot?? What.. the last reboot didn't quite reboot the series the way they wanted? that sequel to the reboot really didn't help reboot interest either??
Maybe oh I dunno, its just time to work on something new?
I mean, in that time of failed reboots, uncharted 1 and 2 have come out and essentially became the tomb raider KILLER.

Whoa! Could it be an...FPS?! We just don't get enough of those!
Please let this be something original. Not that there's anything wrong with shooters. But everyone should know what I mean.

I really enjoyed the 3 Xbox 360 Tomb Raider outings (never got a chance to play any of the older Playstation releases, might download them on PSN eventually though). I don't really like the idea of them "rebooting" the franchise. I really think they would as much sucess by just continuing the franchise and current storyline.
Of course, this might all be irrelevant if the AAA title is a different franchise altogether, but somehow, i doubt it.

I'm not sure what games you been playing, but none of the 3 tomb raider games I played on the 360 had issues with collision detection, camera or "being bad". I'm not saying they were perfect, or there wasn't room for improvement, but all the games had a quality feel and had no issues that took me out of the game.
Maybe the developers want a more "Uncharted" feel, with a bit more action, humour and multiplayer - and I wouldn't be against that, because the Uncharted games are top notch. I won't say they're better than the Tomb Raider games, just an extension of what Tomb Raider brought to the table in terms of game design.
