May be that will teach rockstar to not make things exclusive for just one system which in this case was the 360.

No it hasn't. The next full fledged release will have an incredible launch, tons o' sales, and a sickening amount of media attention leading up to it. It's also guaranteed to be a good game. It's loony to suggest it has peaked. Sure, there's plenty of room for blog commenters to speculate as to whether the game is fun or quality anymore, but we're just blog commenters so who gives a shit what we say.

GTA4 was not a perfect game, but it did a lot of things very well. The setting, the humor, and the gameplay resonated with a lot of people, hence the amazing sales. There is no doubt in my mind that a carefully designed GTA5, released at the end of this console generation, can match the sales of GTA4, so I don't believe it has peaked.

Much like Modern Wafare 2, GTA4 has received a disproportionate amount of hate from the hardcore gamers just for being popular. Joystiq completely left it off of their Top Ten list for 2008. That is an overreaction. But getting criticized by vocal posters on Joystiq and NeoGaf is not going to hurt the sales of these sorts of mega-franchises.

Dear rockstar,

- Make the driving "feel" more like burnout, make the crashes less frequent and less show stopping.
- Remove the cellphone completely, bring back the old way of cheats and possibly have a way to keep track of which achievements are disabled.
- Bring back the comedy, seriously, there are barely any compared to San Andreas.
- The radio system is terrible, there's only one real rock station. One. Plus the way it's setup it makes it seam as though there are only a few songs when there are a lot.
- Have an engaging story, none of the gta stories really grabbed me. I just played them through since they were fun.

Yeah, just because people aren't buying every little facet of the franchise doesn't mean the next real release isn't going to be massive. I think it's just that most people who buy it aren't the kind of people to buy DLC and DS spin-offs.

The series has reached its peak (and for me with SA). If people think they can release another GTA like they have without reinventing the wheel, they're sadly delusional. The only thing GTA4 did well was recreate a good cityscape. Everything else was just minor evolutionary upgrades from the past titles. It's finally boring everyone. For me, this is exciting because perhaps, just perhaps they will go out on a limb again and make a game worth experiencing by trying something new.

Will the next GTA be fun? Certainly. But they definitely need to push the envelope for the next one in order to MAINTAIN interest.

Also, to reach a peak doesn't mean the next game is going to suck or bomb but that if they don't change anything it will slowly decline in the greatness it once was and eventually if they go long enough it will indeed suck. Sonic, Zelda, Tomb Raider, Mario and friends, etc. etc. all have peaks and valleys in their portfolios so why should GTA be any different?

Perhaps gamers were just burnt out after GTAIV. I've had the game for 9 months and I've still haven't unlocked the last island. If I'm not likely to every finish the game, why would I want an expansion?

I'm not saying it's not a good game and by far this game goes through ALOT of developement. There is alot of hard work put into each of these games. I just think the next one will probably not top GTA4.

I have been playing GTA4, again, recently and it just feels dated. They really did innovate the "sandbox world", back in GTA3 and vice city, which we now see ALOT more of.

My only big complaint with GTA4 was the achievements. I played that game for 20ish hours and only had 235 achievement points? I like games that have achievements for playing the game and some for just having fun with the game but most of the GTA4 achievements felt very tedious. Either way a good franchise and YES the next one will sell ALOT but probably not to the scale of GTA4.

Actually copa, there are plenty of people who dislike MW2 or GTA4 for valid reasons.

GTA4: has sloppy driving controls, replaced fun minigames with chores/friends, same repeditive 'go here, kill thy ass' missions, less then perfect multiplayer mode, aiming was still a bitch (finger twisting anyone?), and the general outrageousness that is GTA was stripped down

As for MW2, I just think the single player should have been longer, and for such a huge budget game they should have used a new engine. There is no excuse for ripple-less water or canned animations that float over an edge.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm talking about. Anybody who is slamming MW2 because they feel the graphics are so awful is just trying to invent reasons to bitch about a popular game.

If you tried a little harder, you could have complained about the dumb story in single-player. That at least would have been valid.

copa just because you disagree with me doesn't make my points less valid. It's my opinion. I have MW2 and I love it. Your problem is that you generalize critics, they all hate MW2, because they hate popular games. I never said I hate MW2 or GTA4 that is just your ignorant assumtion. I was just pointing out valid points. People pay 60 dollars for a brand new game not an upgrade with new maps, then again some people don't mind. Apprently I am the latter, but your post just highlights your arrogance. Just because you agree the story is lame doesn't make that point valid. Infact, I don't mind the story, why should anyone? Its a military shooter, WTF do you expect the story/plot to be about? Space monsters?

i don't think its peaked. its probably that all of the recent ones were set in Liberty City plus people want a new full GTA. They can keep this series going as long as they do the great job on each game they've made.

I would use the excuse 'M rated games perform badly on Nintendo platforms', but if it's tanking on the PSP...

As for the DLC...that's what happens when you screw over five million people who bought it for the PS3.

I think people just want a full game.

Exactly, hopefully this will teach Rockstar that doing this exclusively for one system is bad. Rockstar you're 3rd party so act like it and exclude people from buying your product.

I think that's why exclusives are dying off. Even Bethesda had to bring Fallout 3 DLC to the PS3 eventually. Development has gotten so damn expensive (and GTA IV cost one hundred and ten freaking million dollars!) that it's not cost effective to remain on one platform. The mighty Microsoft only has so much money they can pay off developers with.

@Darth Well someone should give the memo to EA and Epic concerning Mass Effect and Gears of War. I love both series but ever since my brother's 3rd Xbox broke and moving out on my own I value my dollar and the work I put to earn it at high standards. So much so that I now buy everything for the PS3 since statistically speaking it should last me a whole lot longer than my Xbox which has started acting weird.

Well, it made sense for Rockstar to do exclusivity since MS gave them a $50 million check. I don't think the PS3 DLC would have sold nearly as much. In the end Ms is the one who lost out as their $50 mil investment didn't have the impact that they thought it would.

Well, Epic can get around that because they make a shit ton of cash from Unreal Engine licenses, and EA runs into the issue of the first ME being a 360 exclusive console wise. You'd have to get the first on the PS3.

@roger: I hope your "Rockstar you're 3rd party so act like it " statement applies to all third party companies, so not only including Bethesda, but Insomniac and Naughty Dog. :D

Truth be told though moving the DLC to PS3 would be easier than moving an entire game to the 360/PC from the PS3.
All I'm saying is that I want some Uncharted on PC.

But Naughty Dog is a SCE studio, so they're not third party. Insommniac is a second-party studio. They're different from Rockstar.

with Mass Effect & Gears....those are owned by the Developers....so theoretically can be on other consoles.......

The Gears IP is owned by Microsoft, not Epic.

You don't remember Mark Rein's bullshit "Well, we'd love to give away the content...but it's really Microsoft's decision since Gears belongs to them"?

I was wondering about that very topic. Aggie, you're right about the Sony games, but don't forget Microsoft was the producer for both of the Gears games as well as the first Mass Effect game, so I'm not quite sure what the IP situation for them is.

Yeah, but a lot of games, of all kinds, tank on PSP. It's an issue of games that just aren't right for the console, like DS ports. The DS game had a few problems of it's own, but it's nothing about M-rated games on Nintendo platforms.

A San Andreas-esque game is probably what will come next, I see GTA:IV as the game which they used to develop the infrastructure and technology to allow them to transfer GTA to the current gen, as GTA:3 did for the PS2. Now they can go on and compete with Saints Row for the fun factor... I hope

Just take the phonecalls from the naggy girlfriends and cousins out of the game and it would have been much more enjoyable for me.

Personally, I would also like another period piece like Vice City, maybe set in the 1970's.
