To clear up any misconceptions with "the kids on Twitter," Spike Video Game Awards host Geoff Keighley took to Major Nelson's podcast this weekend and explained that the Halo: Reach trailer on next week's show will be "actual gameplay." That's right, folks: none of that live-action or CG mumbo jumbo. "You'll get a first glimpse at the world of Reach," Keighley told the Major during this week's show. "I think it's going to be the biggest game next year by far."
When addressing the contents of the trailer -- something Keighley claimed to have not seen just yet -- he noted that he thinks people will be shocked by the direction than Bungie is taking, calling it a "huge leap forward." So, Mr. Keighley, it could be said that the studio is reaching new ground then?
... Hello? Where are you going?!

If people actually read the Weekly Update, Bungie has already stated that it will be 2:30 long and be from the opening cinematic...

Spring 2010. You still have your ODST copy though? You will need that to access it.

Here's what I've noticed about the gaming industry (and looking at Nintendo's history you can see this is QUITE true:
When a developer says they won't visit a franchise for a few years, you won't see a new game featuring that franchise for at least another 4 or 5 years. If a title takes 2 years to develop and they take 2 years off, that's a lot of time before you see your beloved franchise again.
Trust me, being a hardcore gamer, I was devastated to not see a decent Metroid game in between Super Metroid and Metroid Prime.
You may say you're sick of seeing so and so but trust me, when you DON'T see it, you'll care and then you'll be 30, 40 or even 50 saying to new gamers, "I remember when we had great franchises like Halo and Mass Effect".
This isn't to say that game franchises like Guitar Hero aren't a little out of control though.

I am so ready for Halo again. Odst was a great change of pace, brought something new for sure, but I'm ready for another full out Halo experience with a new multiplayer dynamic, similar to what each new Halo brought to the gaming world.
Halo Reach will be epic, I'm calling it now.
