There's "No Russian" Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 off the top spot on the UK sales charts. Infinity Ward's mega-hit is killin' terrorists, civilians and retail at a solid tick, despite the seven percent sales drop from the prior week. The FPS has held the high ground for four weeks now, repelling solid competition from the footie fantasies of FIFA 10 and the hidden blades of Assassin's Creed 2.
Call of Duty: World at War maintained the number one position on the charts last year for five weeks, before FIFA 09 rushed the goal and scored the top spot during Christmas week. Thanks to retail promotions, game of the year candidate Batman: Arkham Asylum sales surged 122 percent, bringing the Dark Knight back onto the chart in the twenty spot.

It's like they wanted to beat Halo 2 for 'terrible ending'.

If you're buying MW2 for the story content then you made the wrong choice. The story was just a little thing that gave you reason to go from one awesome set piece to the next.
When i'm playing i'm not motivated by the thought of taking down the villain, im just thinking"holy chickens, this is awesome"

They could have gone a little more realistic on D.C., though. It wasn't hyper-accurate like Uncharted 2's cities were.

Nothing in the MW2 universe is realistic though, its like that really dumb movie that you go and watch just because its full action.
They made MW2 to be as awesome and action packed as possible

I wouldn't be surprised if they used a "Finish The Fight" tagline...rofl.

I understand that it is the video game equivalent of a michael bay movie. I was not expecting Uncharted.
but does that mean they are allowed to just abandon the main bad guy of the movie and not even tease us at the end of the game to his whereabouts? that would even be bad for michael bay.

I still haven't, but I've sunk a whole lot of time into my roommate's copy, so I get my fix without having to give Activision my money.

It's really not a bad game, the hype just overshot the final product by leaps and bounds...I had the same feeling when I got Halo 2, but it was also a solid game in its own right. So how do you like it so far?

I am enjoying it immensely. I have gotten through some of the campaign but mostly been playing Co-op spec ops with my buddy. Spec ops alone has me happy as can be. I haven't even touched multiplay yet.

I love the special ops. I and a friend have 3-starred everything except for one mission. I can't remember the name of it, but it's the Echo one where you have to take down 10 Juggernauts using just explosives and a knife. We consistently get to 6 remaining and die. We haven't found a good strategy yet, but I've got some ideas to try next time.

Wow...Drew, my brother and I are nowhere NEAR close to 3-starring the missions (only game about once per week for about 2 hours), but that Juggernaut mission sounds like Hell. All the same, Spec Ops is great fun...hope they bring out an expansion for it with about 5 or 6 more mission sets.

Off-Topic:
I'd already beaten the game a while ago, but last night a friend came over and played through the "No Russian" mission for the first time. He'd been cracking wise and talking through the previous missions, but when that mission started, I made sure to watch his reaction.
He didn't say anything during the entire massacre, and just fired a couple of shots above the civilians before just following the rest of the terrorists around.
All of this shit about how this scene turns people into murderers is bs. That scene added gravity; it made me uneasy. You know what, I'm not going to rant about this. It's all been said before.

Honestly I think it's a mission that makes you think twice about becoming a murderer rather than automatically turning you into one. I had seen the video before playing that mission this weekend and supported it. I then played it and also felt uneasy. Really makes you think a bit.

Uhh, I just don't get it. There's games like Assassins Creed 2, Arkham Asylum and Uncharted that game out this year and people buy this crap (to be fair spec ops were fun).
Nathan-DTS' Official Game of the Year Candidates:
1.Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
2. Batman: Arkham Asylum
3. Assassins Creed 2
4. InFamous
5. Anything that isn't Modern Warfare 2.

All great games I agree. Although I haven't played Uncharted 2, but it's one game I am dying to play and will buy a PS3 for. The only down side is most of the games you listed don't have much replay value. Batman was amazing but once beaten it's done. I think that's why MW2 holds such a high spot due to it's campaign, spec ops, and infinite replay value in multiplayer modes.

" people buy this crap"
I think this has a lot to do with people's personal preferences, what you can't change and what shouldn't really bother you.
If you don't like it then that's fine with me, just don't waste your time telling other people what you think.

It's not so much that it was crap, more like there were a bunch of better games this year. When you've got games like Uncharted 2 and AC2 pushing the limit, innovating, it's hard to be so kind to a title that could have been MUCH better than it actually ended up being.

Well almost on a weekly basis, Wii Fit took top spot on the UK charts, but that doesn't mean it's a good game.
I know i'm going to be downvoted for these posts (as is the case every time I insult this mediocre shooter) but it pisses me off that this game with terrible multiplayer and a only slightly above average story, gets so much praise.

People like their First-person shooters that will last them 2 years. There were many games that were better than Halo 3 when it came out, but people go to things that they are familiar with and will last them some time.
This is the typical snobby crap spewed from the mouths of Halo fanboys, and general elitists (my preference in games is better than your preference of games, etc...) Not everyone has a PS3 so they might not have picked up Uncharted 2. Also what makes you think people haven't bought other games? Generalizations won't get you anywhere.

Keep saying it is a bad game. Maybe you will have a wet-dream one day where it is.
