SNK announces Metal Slug XX, three more for XBLA in Japan

There's good news and bad news about Metal Slug 7 on Xbox Live Arcade. The bad news is that we're pretty sure it's not coming out. The good news is that Metal Slug XX, the upgraded, multiplayer-capable PSP remix of the DS game, is replacing it in SNK's 2010 lineup. SNK also announced XBLA ports of two of its fighting games: King of Fighters 2002 Ultimate Match and Neo Geo Battle Coliseum. All three will join the weird King of Fighters shooting game, The King of Fighters Sky Stage, on XBLA in spring 2010.

These games have, so far, been announced only for Japan, but we are sure SNK will release them all worldwide -- if only because it would be a waste of effort to develop an XBLA title just for the few people in Japan who would buy it.

I just don't think 'Xbox 360' when I think about 2D shmups. I think 'Neo Geo' or 'Sega Saturn'. Is it just me?

I actually liked the elevators. The team talked about stuff and I got some time to look at Ashley's ass. Sometimes I even had Liara on my team so I could do some scientific alien-to-human comparisons. Isn't that enough "interesting visuals and information"?

I think of the PS3 since the Xbox 360 doesn't have a good D-Pad.

I've got a decent enough arcade stick setup for the 360 now, so I'm okay with the Arcade games.

I MAY have done some ass examinations in the elevators..though I'm not sure why that is in this thread. And yeah, those systems are dead, but they're still considered the Kings of 2D.

Is that why Saturn and NG flopped in the US? Wouldn't consider than much of kingship.

Neo Geo was never meant to dominate the market, it was meant to be the ultimate 2D system. And back then, people were all 'oh, we want 3D! Who needs that smelly old 2D? (to the point that Sony wasn't allowing development of 2D titles during the initial years), which is why Saturn's 2D power was largely ignored.

But you ask any shoot-em-up fan the systems that had the best 2D shooters, and those two will be on his list. Radiant Silvergun, anyone?

I am not disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing but Bangai-O (Dreamcast) and Gradius are some of the best. But I guess it depends on what we're aiming for. Rail shooters, bullet hell, etc. Ikaruga is also one of the best but also the most annoying.

Oh, I'm not saying there aren't good shoot em ups on other systems, but the sheer number on the Neo Geo and the Saturn overwhelms any other system.

It is a shame they didn't have their life span kept up. Neo Geo and Saturn were innovations but overlooked and underrated. Same goes for Dreamcast. I spent a fortune on imports for those systems. I miss Biomotor Unitron :(

I regret selling my Saturn (still need to buy it back). It's the only system I actually imported for. It probably helped that all you needed was a GameShark.

Awesome. Need more solid arcade titles.

Amongst my pile of games is an unplayed Metal Slug 7 DS.

I swear I'm going to play it one of these days - though I've been saying that for about a year and a half now. It has a nice slip cover though.

I can never get enough Metal Slug, bring it on!

I would be excited for Metal Slug XX, but at this point its obvious SNK isn't doing much to add variety to the series

Just wondering; is XX for 20 or just CKSCKS?
