Alan Wake teaser shows us the power of light
83
Light is, by most accounts, a pretty good thing. It's warm, it makes plants grow and, perhaps most importantly, allows us to see. At least, that was its most important function. Now, thanks to Alan Wake, we know that light's ultimate purpose is to disintegrate monsters. In the small mountain town of Bright Falls, a simple flashbang becomes a weapon of mass destruction and an ordinary road flare is transmogrified from a beacon of hope to a harbinger of doom.

You know who else showed us the power of light? Luigi, in Luigi's Mansion.

Seems like a tired mechanic. This was in Sonic and Knuckles, the Egyptian stage.

@ Andrew
Please don't bring religion into this, it never works on the internet.
People will make some smug comment about how blablabla is wrong and then people on the other side will make an equally smug comment about how blebleble is wrong.
Because they are wrong, they're not even proper words.

My thoughts exactly! This wohle light mechanic makes Alan Wake seem like a mature Luigi`s Mansion. I`ll propably buy it nontheless for the story alone :)

For some reason the article's picture makes me think of the movie the Fugitive, starring John Stamos.

And pursued by Bob Saget, who wants to sentence him to hearing lame vulgar-for-the-shock-value jokes for the rest of his life.

That wasn't me. That was my brother, Richard Stamos.

It also shows us the power of potentially annoying and circulating camera controls.

If I can't control the camera, or it's skitzophrenic, fuck this game. Too Human and Alone in the Dark were supposed to be great, but they had fucked camera and controls.

This is gonna be one of those games where people jack up the contrast to cheat, just like Doom 3.

I don't think it's that you have a problem seeing the death coming at you, it's that you don't really have any weapons to fight it other than improvised light sources. It would kind of defeat the purpose if you couldn't see the bad guys, since you have no long range weapons, and then you'd only find them when your light flares as it's sputtering out and you have a wall o' enemies right at the edge of illumination (like in pitch black).

I hope for the Deveopers sake this game is good cause they have spent a LOT of time on it. But as for me I'm not seeing anything intriguing, I'll try it out but it doesn't look promising for me finishing the game

I was hyped for this game a good year or more ago. But now, yeah, not so much... I forgot about Alan Wake until I just saw this article.

I can't believe this went from a PC exclusive, to a multiplatform game, to a 360 exclusive. All hope is on the publisher MS to port it eventually to the PC but we know that will never happen.

Pretty sure he meant PC and 360 when he said Multiplat. I remember seeing that tech demo that was running on a quad core PC set up...the one with the tornado in it that was crazy! I agree with others that its hard to see anything compelling about the game. Will probably rent it.
