This guy is just the epitome of illogical. Exactly why more people need to read In Defense of Elitism: so that people everywhere aren't afraid to tell this guy that his ideas are ridiculous and backward and that he should just toss off.

When I think of Australia I don't think of gaming for some reason. Instead I imagine a lot of AC/DC and drinking.

I imagine V8 Supercars. Which I discovered, ironically, from videogames. And there's a RB Track Pack of AC/DC. Guess it's a full circle.

You'll get that R18+ rating in about 250 years at this rate.

Sooooo, the equivalent of an after-high school party crowd showed up to promote being adults. Way to go with the whole "I'm an adult" mission.

But I'm also baffled with the government's obsession with games. They have no issue with booting:

It's because the culture's fascination with games is a threat to traditional Aussie past-times like dwarf tossing.

One of many. Drinking and vomiting is another one, but that one (for example) is completely compatible with playing videogames.

A better approach would be to hire some political muckrakers and have them go after Atkinson. Get those skeletons to come dancing out of his closet and crush him in the court of public opinion thus removing him from power and ending his career.

Jackasses like him always have some horrible thing which would would ruin them were it made public. Or just take a lesson from the good ole U S of A and make some stuff up and preach it until it sticks. He's not fighting fair so why should you?

Well yay for Australia. Keep it up guys. I wish you the best of luck in your campaign for a R18+ rating. Maybe if a few more games get banned without cut down versions this group will get some serious numbers.

Thanks a lot Valve... >_>

I wish more Aussies would show up for things like this, not just to show support for games, but to stand up against the bogus morality arguments that allow this type of legislation to happen. If you are going to promote a morality about media content, then you have to be equal across all mediums, not just harsh on Video Games while being soft on Movies and books.

I guess Video Games are younger, so by the time Games are over a century old I'm sure they'll get the same "respect" that movies get as a media form. Either way, I wish I lived in Australia so that my voice in this fight would matter, but I'm glad that I live in the US so that I can play the games that I want to play and make the decisions of what media I want to expose myself and my family to. Sorry if it sounds like I'm rubbing it in, I'm not, I'm honestly angered by the system in place in Australia.

lol! 50 ppl? im no mathematician, but i think you need to boost your numbers a bit. or maybe instead of spending your time on silly, useless things like 'rallying', just buy banned games online. problem solved.

That doesn't solve the problem at all, especially considering customs can check your incoming packages at any time and confiscate any banned material. All you're suggesting is a short term work around which is becoming less and less of a viable option anyway.

If more people actually cared about a proper solution like Ethan, instead of sitting at home and going "Oh I'll just import it", then there would be a hell of a lot more people at these things and most likely no need for importing at all in a much shorter period of time.

You go, mate! It's hard to imagine being in a place that really seriously censors things, and won't allow games to grow up, and decrees they must all be for children, just because once they could only make them fairly childlike. I hope they manage to get some sense into the heads of their legislators. There must be a younger group of legislators who play games, do they ever speak up?
