If you were wondering what the world of Mirror's Edge would look like from a side-scrolling, out-of-body perspective, your answer can be found in the above trailer for the platformer's iPhone port. Though the handheld obviously lacks the processing power of the 360 and PS3, the game still manages to retain the first installment's crisp visual aesthetic. Also, there's a lot of roof-jumping, which we remember being pretty prevalent in the home console version of the game.
However, the video still doesn't clarify how the original game's fairly complex control scheme will port over to the iPhone. "See, to scale this wall, you do a quick tap, then a tappity-tap, and then half a tap, and then you shake your iPhone violently. No, no, half a tap. How are you not getting this?"

It would make me finally get a PSP in the first place. They ported the look and feel of the game really well for a portable device, but there's no way in hell the controls work well.

Hope the controls don't suck like most iPhone action games I have played so far.

I, very foolishly, purchase Earthworm Jim for the iPhone last month. As I suspected the game controls like complete ASS. It's playable but VERY frustrating and unresponsive at times.
I'm going to stick to rare gems like Space Invaders Infinity Gene from now on :-/

Same here, I got Earthworm Jim and it's very hard to play with your fingers in the way.

But that's a port. This is designed for the iPhone, so it probably won't be as bad... hopefully

I'm guessing that she never stops running and you either have to flick the iphone up or slide a finger up rapidly (a la spin attack in NSMBW) and then some other context sensitive gestures will play their roles elsewhere. eg, tap and hold down to slide, double tap enemy to attack. Maybe they could be combined so you could slide towards an enemy and knock into them, then double tap them to do a different attack to a normal one etc

Just read back my message and the begining bit doesn't make much sense:
Jump - flick iPhone up (a la NSMBW'S spin attack) or a quick slide of the finger
Hope thats clearer!

I never got most of these iphone games, or "ports." Mainly due to the fact that they put touch gamepad on the screen, which totally goes against the whole point of the iphone.
The best games are those that are simple, and don't require buttons, and a d-pad on the touch screen itself to play (Canabalt)
On topic, I love the art style of Mirrors Edge: simple and elegant.

FAIL!!! Should have just made it for the DS instead of waisting time on such a horrible device.

I'll pay $5 for the full PC version, but I don't think I'd pay $5 for this version.

Does it make me a fanboy, if I plan on purchasing this regardless of its quality, just to send EA a message that there is a real desire for this, and I want to see a full fledged sequel on the current HD consoles?

If this was released on a platform that I actually own (ie PSP), I would do the same too. Then again, I'll be the first to admit I'm a fanboy of the first game and almost messed myself when Joystiq reported that a sequel is in the works.
Hmm... maybe I should have omitted that last part...

It's kind of retarded how some people think of large corporations and game franchises/IP like charities. A sequel is already planned or they wouldn't port it to a freaking phone.
Buy the game if it's good and you like it on the platform your buying it for...

I think more people know about it than you think - for one thing, it was posted about on Joystiq.

I'm not going to lie, I will no doubt pay whatever large fee EA is going to charge for this title.
I never even finished the PC version, but was amazed by its game play, even the 2D flash version someone made was fun, this could be really cool.

Day one for me. I loved Mirror's Edge and am craving a sequel, but this little spinoff game seems like a nice addition. Bring it on.
