Microsoft does release Office for Macs, they've put Exchange support into the iPhone...it's not that impossible for them to release an Xbox Live app for the App Store.

There are probably more iPhone/iPod Touch/Android owners who would be interested in an Xbox Live app than people who own the Zune HD or a Windows Mobile phone.

In the meantime, I'll enjoy 1337pwn on Android. Stupid name aside, it notifies me when friends (that I choose) come online.

One of the many reasons why Android is the future.

Man that "joke" of yours is fucking stupid, yet you keep posting it. I would maybe chuckle if you didn't post "for only $xxx.xxx!!!" on every 360 related article, but now it's just lame.

I gotta know, is it really that big of a deal to get in touch with your XBOX 360 friends when you're not on the Xbox 360?

I mean, if they're your real friends, people you can look in the eye once in a while and say "wassup", then do you really need Xbox LIVE to keep in touch with them as opposed to say, I dunno, a cell phone with the ability to text message or even a phone call *gasp*?

Seriously, c'mon.

I can't believe the amount of stupid in these comments.

Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft ALL have a similar clauses in there EULA/Terms of Service. Just about every single game on the market has a similar clause in there license agreement. When you purchase a game, console, accessory, etc. you agree to not make profit off of it PERIOD. Unless you have consent from the company which produced/manufactured said game/console/accessory/etc.

This guy broke the rules and he's lucky he just got a slap on the wrist.

Yeah, I don't really understand all the Microsoft bashing in these comments. This guy is profiting off their stuff. I'd be pissed too.

Like, say and made some really sweet painting and put it on the internets, only to come across some other site selling my really sweet painting and not giving me anything for it.

If it was free, that would be one thing. Which just makes me upset that this guy opts to pull it rather than removing the price. But maybe there's more to the story.

I recall picking up Undertow for free when MS messed up on a release date a while back. I also remember getting free MS points when they premiered some show on the Discovery Channel (something about futuristic weapons). Plus they spotted me a free three months of XBox Live after trouble with their customer service.

Free stuff. You guys were outta luck, I guess. >_

Well, he did have to spend money on a license to put it on the App Store. And I'd guess MS would throw a fit if they did an ad-supported version.

But, as has been pointed out, when has Microsoft done things for the Xbox for free?

I think you guys called it. I wonder who tipped off Joystiq? The dev probably knew MS would ask him to take it down, but that it would be up there for a while. Maybe he was banking on some free publicity and a "buying rush" after game-blog posts like these. I'm sure he's made back the cost of his apple developer license...which is pretty cheap if you are at all serious about anything. There's really no point in not making it free at this point. Now if he wants to use it as a portfolio piece, he will just have to show screenshots or have someone look at his iphone.

Indeed. His prickish nature has me tempted to try out the app refund process although I would need to come up with a more legitimate reason than, "developer's a prick".

Launch iTunes
Go to Purchase History
Report a problem
Fill out the form with a legitimate reason for your refund request

If the process hasn't changed, he may even get dinged 30%

Why are all the comments of a "MS charges for everything" nature? The story here is they pulled the app because it's *not* free. As in, if it were free, it would be staying on the iPhone. Seriously, learn to read or wake up from the anti MS bs. I doubt that any one of you live your daily lives without taking advantage of something they created and this world would be entirely different without them.

Second, it has NOTHING to do with the platform. Microsoft is the 2nd largest producer of Apple software. ..as if they don't want to promote their gaming system to people who use a competitor's product. If anything, business 101 tells you that those are the FIRST people they would want to advertise to.

Here's the thing, the fact is MS was not the one making money off it. I'd take their stance a little more seriously if it wasn't for the fact they refuse to allow the BBC media player in the UK on Xbox because due to the government mandate behind the BBC and it's philosophy it has to be free. Xbox want it as a Gold member only service.

So here's the Microsoft logic, if some one else is making money off the platform that's wrong. But to use services that are free elsewhere you have to pay US an additional fee on top of those you already pay for internet bandwidth.

It's just the more then mild hypocrisy. I'm all for them protecting the "free" nature of the Live environment if it were actually free. Any how, this is all a lot of pissing in the wind. We'll never change their philosophy and I have a suspicion that the Xbox is going to be the only platform with out the BBC integrated media player and this guy's live interface will disapear. MS will launch a half assed piss poor version of the Live interface for the iPhone (see the previous Games for Windows attempts and their mediocre at best design) and probably launch a fee service with SKY or something in the UK. Hell, I'm in Canada and when it comes to media intergration we're screwed. We don't even get online radio! MS' concern about the consumer is spoty and self serving at the best of times.

Common,

Unfortunately it is not hypocrisy, due to the fact that Microsoft owns the service in question and can do whatever they want with it. If the BBC were to allow MS to “resell” their service via gold membership then that would be the BBCs decision as well. As it stands, both companies are doing the exact same thing at the moment which is stopping another company/person from reselling their proprietary service. The End. People are reaching in this article a little too much to smear MS, but they should be saving it for the RROD articles as MS is well within their rights here. Try to remain neutral as much as possible, because if you blame them when it isn't warrented than your complaints in the future (valid as they may be) lose a lot of their power.

I know this guy would like to be paid for his work, but since it's illegal he should just release it for free. That way:
a) it will actually get used
b) he gets publicity from putting out an app people wanted

That way the next app he puts out will get more recognition. Everybody wins!
