@ Bigfat, shock horror, you're right, you can't blame a guy for being mistaken, everything recently has been Micro trying to make as much money as possible, BBC iPlayer, external Memory units etc etc

I accept my mistake, although, they are still partially in the wrong, because the app isn't making THEM money, which is why its being pulled :D

So yeah, I'll partially continue my moaning >.< except in general rather then specific like before :P

"Stop being a bitch Microsoft >_< All I want is one measly thing for free, ONE MEASLY THING!"

It's being pulled because the prick that made this app for ur iPhone is making money while breaking a EULA that says all XBOX 360 Live applications must be free. So technically if this douchebag left the app available but for free Microsoft wouldn't give a shit. Which is also why you can easily get a app just like this in the Android Market for free and that app isn't going anywhere.

How can he guarantee the app will work for those that download it? Community Developer page here: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/developer/default.htm .

If you read the Terms (PDF link on right), it states: Microsoft may in its sole discretion discontinue access by anyone to the Gamer Card Data Feed and the Presence Feed at any time for any reason without notice and you understand that this may effectively render an Application unusable.

This is assuming he signed up for the developer program and has some type of "identifiable" feed that MS can shut off at will. Now if he is just parsing the Xbox live web pages and making them usable via the iPhone interface, then MS probably can't do anything about it - and it will continue to work...as long as MS doesn't change those pages.

That's another problem (at least from my point of view). He wasn't a member of that development program; everything he was doing scraped directly from the Xbox.com webpages.. not exactly the most 'streamlined' way of doing things.

Silly Microsoft. Won't let anybody release anything for free on the Xbox Live Marketplace, won't let anybody release anything that's NOT free that connects to Xbox Live from any other platform. Make up your minds!

This is the same creator who created the same application on blackberry at the end of 2008, and he pretty much had to shut this thing down on blackberry. it just seemed so familiar. It was a real good application until he stopped working on it and I think Microsoft asked him to stop it then, and it was free.

Why can't the creator of the app make it free then? Isn't that the whole issue? If you want to blame somebody, then blame the app developer that could've prevented the whole thing by simply making the app free.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Office_2008_for_Mac

Apple has also licensed Microsoft ActiveSync and now supports the platform (including push email) with the release of iPhone 2.0 firmware.[126][127] The iPhone will sync e-mail account settings over from Apple's own Mail application, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Entourage, or it can be manually configured on the device itself. With the correct settings, the e-mail program can access almost any IMAP or POP3 account.[128]

Sounds to me like Microsoft doesn't have a problem with software on Macs...

It's a pretty messed up situation. The author of the app wanted it to be free. But Apple said it can't be (and why not? many apps are free) however Microsoft wanted it to be free. Apple probably had lawyers that knew about the no-profit clause in the EULA so they made the author charge for it knowing MS is going to step in and take it down, thus, no more Microsoft on an Apple platform.

source for this? I find it hard to believe that of the thousands of apps on the market, they changed their policy for this ONE app to force it to be a paid app.

I have it. I think it's a pretty good little app. I've tried other XBL apps in the past and they're all worthless. This is actually pretty well featured, though. I'd say buy it if you have a 360 and an iPhone.

I was going to buy it as well, given that 1337whatever was pretty much useless... but then again, I got screwed with Delicious Library's iPhone app as well as a gmail push app that turned out to be a scam, so I was wary of this one. If it was free-- like the MS terms of use require-- I would have jumped on it. Or hell, even if it wasn't free and MS bought it out.

Still, he knew the rules, he chose to break them, and I didn't feel like rewarding him for that.

He cant make it free because it doesn't even use the Microsoft API that they provide.
Its a screen scraping or data scraping app that logs you into the Xbox.com website and extracts the data from the website and displays into the app.

He could access to your emails/passwords using this app if he wanted to using this app and I'm sure Microsoft didn't want all the hassle this could cause! All the other apps on the App Store use the Xbox Live API to allow you to see who is online and what they are playing but they have no API that allows you sent and receives messages to your friends on Xbox Live!

I bet he ends up making it free, but for now threatened that he would just take it down to get people to pay the $1.99 in the meantime.

Think about it, this thing is up on gaming blogs everywhere now. He's got to stand to make a killing these next couple days.

You overdrafted for nothing. The damned program is free now. He knew what he was doing posting this for some last minute revenue. Dispute it with apple, then the bank will remove the associated overdraft when the credit goes through.

Tried to get it Friday... it appeared in the App Store for free, but when I would try to DL it, my iPhone claimed it was no longer available. Went to look for it again today and there it was... FREE!

Definitely has some loading problems, and I wish it showed the achievements I still have to unlock for each game. Still, it is definitely the best XBL app out there. I hope he continues to work on it and adds/improves some features. Kudos to Xavier Larrea! Thanks for not pulling it.
