In one day, the NPD Group will release its game sales report for the month of November, which should reveal the (near) exact number of units Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has sold in the US thus far. In the meantime, Gamespot reported on two analysts who have predicted the portion of November software sales that were made up of Warfare purchases. Industry analyst superstar Michael Pachter says the game accounts for 23 percent of total game sales. However, Pacific Crest analyst Evan Wilson has it pegged at 25 percent of total November sales.
Wilson added that this feat is made especially impressive due to his firm's prediction that "this November's sales will match the month's highest historical total on record." In related news, news stories dealing with Modern Warfare 2 composed 67.2 percent of all news stories over the past month. Oh, wait -- now it's 67.5 percent!

Joystiq...I'm liking the redesign. You didn't go full out like Engadget did.
It wouldn't surprise me if it was that high. I'm thinking it's a close race between Dragon Age, L4D2, and AC II for second place, however.

I am liking the new design also.
More on-topic: This really doesn't surprise me, I saw a lot of people camping outside of a Wal-Mart where I live just to get this god-damned game (not saying it's bad, just not worth the hype).

Kudos on the design Joystiq.
I finally gave in and bought this. Good solid game. I expected worse. Though 22% is a huge chunk to be happy about, I am not surprised.

No, the iPhone site is still the same. They really just changed the headers, and reorganized the tabs for the individual system sites.

I suggest you contact someone. That's a bit of a glitch.
In the meantime, just wait for the dropdown menu and click the 'PS3' tab.

It's like that on mine too. It's clear evidence of Joystiq's bias against Sony.

Or there is something wrong with AOL's/Weblogs'/Joystiq's web development team in that they didn't test on all browser families. It's not working in Safari or Chrome for me, and while some of the layout is fixed in Firefox and Camino, the link is still broken and all the "Main" links in each .Joystiq site only link back to whichever .Joystiq you are already on.

I think they just typed in too much linkage in their code.

Wow, great feedback everyone!
We'll get those links fixed, asap. And we'll look into any browser incompatibilities – it's working fine for me in Firefox, Safari, and Chrome.

I feel your pain, I'm in midst of a site redisgn for a company and the IE compatibility is frustrating as always. Ahh MS, they have all the money in the world and still can't follow basic standards.
I just figured I'd bring the broken link to your attention.

It's down voted because a couple of users think that rather than just ignore Darth, or use a simple script to change what they see, they'd rather him stop posting. Apparently it takes too much effort to ignore him, so instead they all mass-down vote him for no reason at all, even if they agree with him.
@Chris Grant
Would it be possible to add a hover effect to the individual tabs corresponding to their respective color? Like a slight green background when hovering the Xbox tab, blue for Nintendo, and maybe black or red for Playstation? Just an idea though.
Thanks for the redesign though, my stylish changes didn't look nearly as awesome as this does.
@article
So one of the best selling games of the year sold a crap ton during November and captured a good portion of the market last month? *cue feigned shock*

Joystiq, Please never go to the "click to view replies" format of engadget. It is horrible and I hate using it.

A few comments on the UI of the dropdown menus
I think they should disappear before the other one opens, it looks weird having out behind the other
Also for me the 4th option down is transparent so I can see the text behind. Am I alone?

I'd love a universal login for the Joystiq family of blogs. It's kind of annoying because some browsers (Camino, Safari, Firefox) keep my name and login fine and some (IE, Chrome, Opera) don't ... not that big of a deal but a universal login would be amazing. Anyone with a MAC should get on Camino right away ... it's my favorite browser going right now (Chrome is a close 2nd with Safari 3rd.)

@Space - Hey, give MS a break - IE8 actually follows existing standards very closely. Unfortunately, their update infrastructure (and OS support in some cases) is a bit lacking so the majority of users at least for the site I work on are still on IE7. And some on IE6! Damn.

As someone else mentioned (in a reply I can't reply to for an easy quote and affirmation of their point), there doesn't seem to be a way to log in to Joystiq. How the heck can I check my profile without making a comment like this that I can click on?
That just seems silly. I love the content of the site, and the podcast is a weekly treat, but there's a least one glaring usability issue that could use fixin'.

NPD covers roughly 60-65% of the U.S. retailers, so how do they provide (near)exact numbers?

I don't know why they wouldn't track WalMart, it covers about 40% of all Superstore industry nationwide.

Walmart doesn't release their numbers like most companies do....so they don't have access to them

For general items I'd say yes, they probably are. I think most games sales (excluding black friday) go to Gamestop though, or maybe Best Buy or Amazon for the occasional pre-order bonus or sale.
