And the best-selling, top-rated iPhone games of 2009 are ...

Apple's iTunes store has listed the best-selling and top-rated apps for this third-to-last year of humanity's existence. It appears the big boys of game publishing are doing quite well on the App Store, with the ten top grossing games making room for only one independent studio. Gamasutra states Firemint's Flight Control, with its 99 cent price tag, sold 1.5 million copies and grabbed the number seven spot.

The top-rated titles have much more indie spirit, as Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor, Real Racing and Zenonia wrap up the top three spots. Check out the lists for both categories after the break.

Wow...I don't have one of those.

Zenonia is pretty awesome, if you're a fan of the 2D and/or handheld Zelda games.

Although the controls are absolutely miserable.
...but that pretty much goes without saying when it comes to iPhone games...

With over 90000 apps too choose from... you will never find the good ones

While this doesn't relate to iPhone games, I've been meaning to ask this question and haven't found a good place here to do it.

Does anyone have an Android phone? Have there been a lot of real games developed for it yet? Or should I just expect a lot of classic games (Pacman, etc.)?
I'm thinking about picking up a smartphone and it looks like I'm going with an Android phone.

I don't own an Android phone YET (can't upgrade to a Droid until late January), but I've been browsing the samples they have on the Android market site. Judging solely by those samples, nothing super-huge, game-wise (though there's a nice 3D adventure game series that's making me antsy for my new phone), but there are emulators for various systems if you want to try that.
Of course, that's only those limited samples. You don't get to browse EVERYTHING on the Android market outside of an Android phone.

Yeah, I'm planning on getting the Motorola Cliq, at least right now. I still like T-Mobile enough to stick with them and their unlimited minutes plan is sexy as hell.

I'm definitely getting an emulator. Playing some old school NES and SNES games on the go will be hella sweet. (I don't have a PSP, so I never got to try them on that.)

I am annoyed that I can't view the entire Android market outside of the phone. I'd like to know the reasoning behind that. If I knew everything it had, I'd feel a lot better about picking one up. I'll be getting mine next week if I decide to go with it.

I previously owned a htc dream, and I can tell you that most of the apps you would find on the market were garbage. There were a few that stood out, but you won't really find anything remarkable in gaming besides the emulators. Some of them ran really well considering all the bad games on the market.

It's only the greatest iPhone game ever!!!!!!!!! Jeez.

Sadly I recently got Extreme Grand Master status so I need more content... Has Peggle Nights been announced for iPhone?

Do not forget Beneath a Steel Sky for the iPhone or Monkey Island! Two great point and click adventure games. Just started Steel Sky and its really good.

Yeah I grabbed Peggle on XBLA and I don't see what all the hubbub was about.

I would highly recommend "The Settlers" for anyone who is a fan of the franchise.

Spider, Peggle, and Wolf RPG were great. Metal Gear Duck Hunt was so so but so strange it had to be played.

Wow...the only game I have is Doom Classic. I guess everything else isn't good enough for the snobs.

I like how none of the top-rated games are in the best seller category.

I highly recommend Geodefense if you are into Tower Defense games.

A lot of new games need the new firmware to run...unfortunately for ipod users, Apple is charging $5 or $10 to upgrade. The worse part is that there are virtually no new features for ipod users.

Anyone planning on getting any of the EA games, wait for them to go on sale.
They're doing a daily sale sort of thing where they'll drop the price of a couple of their games to $.99 or around there for only one day between now and Christmas.
