The fact that you are saying Etrian Odyssey is ANYTHING close to "indistinguishable" proves your ignorance.

I know its "anime" but come on they all look the same. Not interested. I speak for the silent majority here, many agree with my opinion. It all looks the same!

Those who aren't good at a game tend to dismiss it. :/

I loved the first two, and I SUCKED at them. Died too much for me to enjoy it, and what little progress I made didn't ever seem to amount to much.

Oh, and going through the same place every time was kind of plain. Fix that and I'll love it, likely.

Oh, and everything has a semi-realistic, dark edge to it. It ain't that typical. Some of the monsters can give nightmares, especially when they rape your team in one turn. ;_;

Ok, so the characters look similar to other JRPG's, that doesn't mean the game is indistinguishable. Etrian Odyssy is a first-person rpg with brutal difficulty, no hand holding, and the ability to map your own dungeon progress. Doesn't sound similar to many other titles on he market does it?

@Leo: That character (fanart?) is hella cute. Nice design (and very different to the Etrian Odyssey characters pictured, though those are fun too). Not quite sure why it would come up in search for 'little anime king' though...

Also, nice to know you can somehow tell that the 'silent majority' agrees with your opinion. Does the silent majority also possess telepathy?

Etrian Odyssey always looked kind of interesting to me (I like Nethack etc) but seems like probably a game that is too hard and has rather too high a dungeon-bashing:story ratio. :) So I've never played either of the games this far. Don't expect the new one will change my mind.

Oh geez.

Weird how I couldn't get into this game but I can't get out of Demon's Souls. Different guys, different game styles, both punishing as hell.

I feel stupid. >_>

The artist, IOSYS is also responsible for such great game cover songs as Marisa Stole The Precious Thing, Cirno's Perfect Math Class, and Make Us Your Brides.

And THOSE remixes are based on THESE games:

This is some serious niche stuff. I want a snapshot into your world, do you have those crazy half naked figurines strewn about your rooms? Just curious. Those things are expensive too.

I don't, but I have a replica of Aragons sword from Return of the King, and a Gunblade. But I DO have 3 posters, so I'm sure you can cling to your preconceptions just fine.

My, what predjudice you have. The gals from the latter games I mentioned have more dignity (aside from their huge overseas fanbase) than most game/anime girls. Meaning, you'll only see Touhou girls half-naked or worse in fanart. And no, I don't really focus on purchasing the merchandise, just the actual products of the games and anime. You're mistaking Touhou with Travis Touchdown's stuff.

Hey, that's Misa from Deathnote! Basically, the show is about a crazy but brilliant high school student who finds a notebook that kills the anyone whose name is written in it, and in the manner specified. And then he uses it to establish a world class vigilante persona who kills any and all convicted criminals, and tries to rule the world as an Omnipotent God, while ruthlessly manipulating everything he can to beat the worlds' united police force.

....I'm sorry, you were saying how all Japanese media was bland and unimaginative. Please continue. Forgive my interruption.

I guess I won't sell my DSi after all. I beat the first one, but got mired down in the second one. I still play it from time to time when I am feeling too good about myself.

The thing that just drove me away from the second was the F.O.E.s not giving any xp and often having no loot drops. It was almost like they felt like they needed a new gameplay element to keep it fresh. Using a skill point on F.O.E. managing abilities is so painful.

I wonder if they had MGS envy the way you have to elude the F.O.Es. I will light a candle for this one.
