Using GamerDNA results as a guideline, DFC Intelligence charted the popularity of 360 games last month, and there are some interesting revelations. For one: Every person alive or dead, including the author of this post, is playing Modern Warfare 2 as we speak. Okay, so that's a slight exaggeration but it was very popular, with somewhere between 22 and 17 percent of GamerDNA's Xbox 360-playing subjects playing the game throughout all of November.
Also somewhat surprising is just how well Borderlands – which, let's be honest, didn't have the biggest marketing push – did, handily holding on to second place until the release of Left 4 Dead 2 and Assassin's Creed 2. Admittedly this list doesn't reflect the time spent by those who aren't online, but do you seriously care about those commoners anyway?

Modern Warfare II in UK is played like its the only game in town. Honestly, M2 II sales
go insanely-high, it even beat the record of Grand Theft Auto IV.

Uhhh and why is that Punisher? So what if he doesn't want to buy MW2? It's not that great. I should've rented it, the single player was fun and so was Special Ops and the multiplayer, but it just didn't grab me like BC2 did.
Plus he's already playing a lot of other games like AC2, so why bother buying another one right now?

I got it for the PC for $45, and I definitely could have saved my $$$. I found the single player pretty boring, the co-op slightly less boring, and the multiplayer kind of fun. I am also excited for Bad Company 2. Anyone got a spare beta code?

It's not Fanboys... i just like it better, i loved the lol moments of the campaign in the first game (that was the thing that made me buy it)
and the muliplayer is way more fun for me because it's much more team-oriented and objective-centered not like every match is deathmatch except with people you can kill and people you can't like MW2 or Counter-Strike for that matter. Oh and did i say they have vehicles ? *-*

I thought hardcore Modern Warfare folks would be some of the most annoying people in the world.
Nope. It turns out that the people who have to come into every one of these threads to scream to the world about how they are SO NOT INTO Modern Warfare are even more irritating.

That is how the system works. Don't agree with someone, you downvote them. Oh, I see, as long as they agree with you up/down voting is fine, but when they don't it isn't.

I think MW2 has the worst multiplayer of the franchise. The singleplayer campaign is quite entertaining though (although it doesn't add enough new experiences to the formula to make it particularly unique feeling, IMO).
The multiplayer feels like it was designed and balanced for the casual gamer. It has many "no fail" options for the player. The noob tube grenade launcher attachment almost guarantees you kills and requires no real skill to use. To make matters worse, IW added even more noob tube style weapons (the Thumper). A variety of akimbo weapons require little thought to achieve kills in close range battles, some even dominate in mid range battles (the 1887s). Most good games have a design philosophy where easy tasks get you mediocre rewards, but difficult tasks can get you great rewards. In CODMW2, easy weapons are actually the more powerful weapons, while the more difficult weapons get you little (the sniper rifles, handguns, and throwing knife require more skill to succeed with, but are outperformed by much easier weapons).
Other design choices seem like Infinity Ward has no ability to learn from their previous mistakes. The FAL (single shot assault rifle) is rarely used, just like the single fire assault rifle in COD4. Map design diversity remains poor, with nearly every map playing in the same style as the next (cramped, close quarters maps).
CODWAW had better map design.
Other choices just seem odd. In some ways, leveling up makes you more powerful, but in others, leveling up just gets you inferior unlocks that you won't want to use. For most weapon attachments, your most powerful attachments are unlocked early on (noob tube). You get crappier attachments as you go (masterkey shotgun attachment). Weapon unlocks get better as you go though. Meanwhile, many of the best Perks are unlocked right when you start (Commando, Marathon Pro), while crappy Perks get unlocked later. Perk Balance is poor, particularly in the Perk 3 slot, with Scramble and SitRep being lame in relation to Commando and other Perk 3 perks. Are we supposed to get considerably more powerful as we go or get diminishing returns? The game doesn't seem to know how to make up its mind.
And it's very odd that in COD4, the noob tube took away Perk 1, but in MW2, it does not. Even more strange, IW seems to agree that the noob tube is a cheap weapon, as there's a title you can acquire while using it: "Noob Tuber." Despite all that, they seem happy with the now even more powerful noob tube.
Overall the game just feels like a step back from COD4, I think. I'm also very disappointed in the PC edition of the game. It has no gamepad + rumble support, despite having this feature in PS3 and 360. Most top tier PC games have such a feature. More importantly, the lack of a dedicated server function was a big wound as others have noted. I dislike a great deal of the maps in the game, and would like to play just the ones I like. But there's no way to choose maps you like in the match making system. Plus, the game being a Steam-only game means you can't resale the game if you're disappointed with it (like I am). I feel robbed.

That may be true but if you bother getting 75 kills with a handgun you get Tactical Knife. I just got done playing and there was a mother fucker that racked up 30 kills by sprinting around and knifing......it was ridiculous.

I don't know why everyone is going crazy over the BC2 beta. I want to say first that I really enjoyed BC1 and I played COD4 for awhile online but no MW2.
Anyway my point is while they have fixed the hit detection and how much it takes to kill someone as well as other improvements the game has some problems that are stopping me getting into it.
This isn't really DICE's fault but no one knows how to use team work or classes properly. Since no one uses mics they don't communicate with each other and so it usually turns into a 1 man army thing. People who are engineers don't use RPG's or fix tanks. People who are medics don't revive people who are down and recon people run wildly into battle with pistols.
Since I don't wanna write much more here's some more complaints.
There is also a huge amount of campers in this game!
The detonators are also placed in really stupid locations.
The draw distance is awful to an extent where objects in the distance are jagged pixelated blobs on the screen.

Wait for the PC beta, and you will see teamwork. Usually there are "teamwork" servers where you have to work as a team.
I found this to be the same problem with Battlefield 1943. People didn't understand that capturing the points gives you a better score than if you go around attempting to play death match.

Both MW2 and BC2 are high quality titles. Each offers a completely different and unique multiplayer experience. Both can be as addicting as heroine and to truly be successful in either (depending on game mode of course) team work is required. I'd suggest playing BC2 with people you know that use mics. Random matches are going to be ... random. Some people like anonymity and can work as a team without communication while some people always like to be TEH RAMBOEZ and go in like a kamakaze.
I think MW2 is overrated considering all the hype but my standards are different because I am mainly someone who prefers single player. So, 95% of everyone else loves the multiplayer and they got what they expected and THEN some. I doubt there are many people (if any) in existence who loved the multiplayer in the first MW and don't like it in MW2. You had to know what to expect with the multiplayer in the game if you'd of played MW or W@W. I still say the campaign in the first MW and in W@W are better than that of MW2 but it did have an excellent co-op mode which counts for something. I've never been a fan of COD multiplayer because 1. I suck at it and 2. It doesn't fit my personal play style / preferences. I still say to this day that the best competitve multiplayer mode was Gears 1 and the best co-op mode was Horde in Gears 2. So, when I say that MW2 was overrated I'm not saying the game sucks, isn't high quality or that people shouldn't play it ... I'm saying that it wasn't all that I expected it to be. I also gave the multiplayer a good chunk of time (probably 7-10 hours as I don't remember exactly) and the lack of a balanced matchmaking service spoiled the experience for me. When I'm a level 14 I shouldn't be matched up with people who are all level 45 & above every time I play a match. They've played more so they have better gear, they are more experienced (know the maps better) and they have access to weapons and perks well above that of me.
Whats the point of saying all that? Let's all just agree that the game is high quality but that it isn't for everyone and leave it at that. We don't need Battlefield fanboys trashing MW2 and MW2 fanboys trashing Battlefield. If we're going to talk about it at least say (on both games) what it is you didn't like about it instead of silly banter. Also, if someone gives legitimate reasons as to why they didn't like the game or a certain features don't use that as cart blanche to say "hurr durr you just says that cuz you is teh sucks hurr durr" or "hurr durr millunz of teh pplz do did teh disagree cuz tehy are is teh play in teh game now hurr durr" routine thats so common when anyone brings up this type of topic.

Exactly that just proves my point. Borderlands isn't even listed on Major Nelson's list. And Halo 3 isn't listed on that list (just Halo 3 ODST).
Headline really should be "Modern Warfare 2 dominates GamerDNA unique users per day on 360".

I think it is because the Halo 3 multiplayer disk in ODST counts as Halo 3.
If they had matchmaking for Firefight, it would be much different story.

I can't help but wonder why ODST is on the list but not Halo 3 (which did sell more copies). Oh and I am one of the few people on live who doesn't like call of duty, and only a few people on my friends list are even playing it (actually just one with any consistency really).
