Dante's Inferno 'Divine Edition' heading exclusively to PS3
146
EA has detailed a special edition of Dante's Inferno, titled the "Divine Edition," which is coming exclusively to the PlayStation 3 next February. For the same $60 the Xbox 360 version costs, EA will give you the "special edition," which includes a developer commentary, a Wayne Barlowe "digital art book," the game's soundtrack, and ... wait for it ... a digitized "complete Longfellow translation of Dante Alighieri's Inferno." That's right, folks -- you can read the classic work on the same system that's being used to tear it apart. The demo is currently available on the PlayStation Network and will land on Xbox Live on December 24th.

They have to entice the PS3 owners with extras since the 360 people will probably get it no matter what.

As much as i want to admit otherwise, i think that factors into it.
There's also the fact that PS3 games sell better than any other console for Ea, and, oh yeah,
GOD OF WAR III WHICH THEY COMPLETELY RIPPED OFF.
(But i'm still buying both. Just sayin')

Has no one considered the fact that blu-ray disks having lots more space may have something to do with this?
Sony: Hey, you guys still have 40 gigs of free space on that disk. How 'bout you toss in some extra content? A couple "making of" videos, some of the game music, other stuff you might have laying around. It shouldn't cost you much. And whatever it does cost you, we'll be happy to reimburse.
I'd do it.

I don't necessarly think, "EA hearts PS3", instead I think EA is trying to convince PS3 owners to buy Dante's Inferno in the wake of God War 3. That is not a problem on the 360 platform because there is no equivalent for Dante's Infero.

*Inferno
I am no doubt buying God of War 3 and Battlefield BC 2. I don't know if I have room for Dante's Inferno. Maybe I'll trade-in my copy of MW2, you know for a single player campain that I can't play through in just a weekend.

"We made the call that PS3 was going to be bigger than the Wii, and we allocated resources accordingly. We got that wrong, and that put us in a position where we probably underinvested in our intellectual property and some of it went into a kind of wane period. What makes this all the harder, and harder on investors, is that we have to come, if you will, from a bit of weakness to rebuild our core and drive transition." - John Riccitiello, CEO, EA, December 9, 2009
[TRANSLATION: I'd like to take this opportunity to tell potential investors that EA isn't as bad as an investment as it might appear: despite the fact that we're sinking faster than a lead anchor in a kiddie pool, let me reassure you--all the adversity we're currently experiencing is directly related to the fact that, because we placed too much faith in the PS3, we nearly jeopardized our very existence in the free market... Don't worry, though, we know better now and we're taking immediate steps to rectify our folly]
Yeah... EA loves PS3 so much, they threw the whole platform right under the bus!!

I don't know the stats, but I have both consoles and when a game comes out on both, the ONLY reason I have to get it on one over the other is for the Gamerscore.
I don't get in to extra content, power, load times, resolution or what console my friends get it on. I am a Gamerscore skank. And I am still getting this on my 360. And then I'll go get God of War 3.

I guess this is just because Blu-ray has the extra capacity to store this stuff on the disc?
Because otherwise I would think the special edition should be on 360 since the 360 will probably sell more copies because a lot of PS3 buyers will get God of War 3 instead.

EA has sort of been giving Sony some preferential treatment with the Home Space, exclusive DLC (mirrors edge), exclusive beta acess (bad co. 2) and exclusive demos (dantes inferno) so this isn't really all that different. Also, if you had seen the EA Sports commercial from a few months ago it's almost like they advertised their sports games as PS3 exclusives. Dantes Inferno ships early Feburary and God Of War 3 is shipping sometime in early April. I think that window sort of negates the concept that PS3 owners will have to choose between both products.

Your logic makes no sense. What's the point of giving extra content if it's not going to give people an extra incentive to buy the game. If it's gonna sell more, they don't need a collector's edition. They need one for the platform that will sell less to get more sales on that.

That's nice but doesn't really prove the PS3 sells more games. More likely the reason EA are making more money on PS3 is thanks to Europe. With a larger PS3 install base and ridiculously high prices that fluctuate more than Gabe Newells bathroom scales you should be thanking us for all that "support".
It also doesn't help that the only PS3 game to sell better for EA on PS3 is Bunout P so no, they don't buy more than 360 owners but they sure as hell pay more.

You have kind of a point, but then again, Forza has a special edition and it's on only one platform. Clearly there's more reasons to do an exclusive than you (and I) point out.

I did not say that. I just said why it makes sense to do so. Not that it's the only reason why companies make special editions... :/ Geez.

EA and Sony really do seem to have a nice relationship the same way Activision and Microsoft have a good one. Nice to know the demo will be on PSN when I get home tonight. I'm 50/50 on this game right now and the demo could set it over the top or drop it out all together like the Bayonetta demo.

Thats true but those are also unique situations because EA is only a publishing partner of Valve and there were already agreements in place for Mass Effect between Bioware and MS when EA bought them out. But, considering some of the language in regards to Mass Effect 2 by people on the development team I think that one is getting a window of exclusivity (maybe a year - who knows) and will eventually come to the PS3. I'm not sure about L4D2 since the Orange Box port didn't go over all that well. On the bright side you can play both games on your computer.

BioWare: Mass Effect 2 360 exclusive
Friday 14-Mar-2008 12:16 PM "for at least a short period of time", developer tells CVG

I just think when you take everything in thats been bantered about the game it's the same situation as the Fallout 3 DLC. It's got an exclusivity window and part of the agreement is that they aren't supposed to announce other platforms. Thats my theory anyway. It could also be one big misunderstanding but I just don't see that being the case if there was never an intention of bringing it over eventually.

Wow. There's a lot of EA PS3 love lately.
Maybe you actually make Harmonix make Rock Band 3 not suck on the PS3 compared to the XBox 360 version?
The Beatles: Rock Band was a great step towards console equality. Even the Wii version was very good.

Just off the top of my head...
1 - Shaky Arrow Syndrome (game's been out for over a year and the bug still remains)
2 - Voice Chat comes out of the TV speakers instead of your headset (even TB:RB still has this issue)
3 - No Message Of The Day (minor, I know, but I mean COME ON even the Wii gets it)

I think this is a smart move. Sell your collectors/limited editions for the same price as the regular version, and I think you might even end up selling more units. That's a good value, unless the game really really sucks.
