Without doubt, the DS has the strongest library of games this generation or last, and it wouldn't be hyperbole to suggest that the DS might be the best console ever created.

Its all down to personal taste really. I myself prefer the PSP game library as I just cant find much for me on the DS.

Woah there, pump the brakes a bit. If you're a japanophile it's the best, seeing as that's where they all went.

It's not a console, it's a handheld. I'll give you best handheld ever, but it's not like theres a bunch of competition there.

The only system that comes close is the SNES.

Kleptomaniac: Well, I think the DS is a right showcase for every worthwhile genre in gaming, but my brother grumbles the same tune about the games I adore. He prefers the PSP as well - which does have some awesome games, I might add. Like you said, it's all about personal taste, I guess.

"It's not a console, it's a handheld."

Handhelds are consoles.

I think what the PSP really brought to the handheld market was proper 3D gaming on the go. The PSP really is a portable console in that you can still play huge games like the MGS series, Assassins creed and GOW just off the top of my head.
It also has some great pick up and play games like loco roco and stuff.
I don't actually own a PSP right now used to have one but my brother broke it. He'll be getting a GO this christmas (the horror I know!) so I'll be able to start playing it again.

I agree with you 100%. Such a diverse console and portable too. I am from the camp that believes FUN > GRAPHICS , and the DS is the poster child.

I definitely think over my gaming history, I've gotten the most enjoyment out of it in comparison to a lot of other systems. It'd have to be right near the top in terms of all time favorite systems.

In terms of the PSP being proper 3D gaming on the go, that's probably why I don't like the PSP a ton. I don't want a handheld PS2 type experience, or a 360 or PS3 handheld type experience. With a handheld, I want a handheld, gameboyish type experience. PSP is still great, sure, just not my preference.

Your well off, looking at your avatar I can see you are biased towards the DS. Sure it's good but it's not the greatest thing since slice bread.

He didn't say it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, he said it was the greatest console. :P

Despite the fact it's a handheld, not so much a console.

I don't play my DS much, but I'd be willing to agree. There have been more great releases amongst SEVERAL genres on the DS than even the PS2... the only thing it's lacking is a good assortment of good FPS and 3PS games.

But heck, that's one genre. And though sports and racing aren't that numerous on the DS, there are great ones on there.

It's not a matter of taste, it's a matter of satisfaction held by the large varied gaming populace out there. Unless you've been aiming for a higher-graphicked game that's either FPS, 3PS, or hack and slash: The DS satisfies you with more than just one game.

I'm finding the DS to be mildly enjoyable, which is more than it was when I had one 3 years ago. I would enjoy games like Mario and Luigi Bowser's story and Zelda Spirit Tracks more, but they're so insultingly easy that it saps a bit of the fun away. I like castlevania order of ecclessia, but it's just another 2D castlevania. Same with FF tactics advance 2, there's virtually no difference to it over the GBA one..not even in graphics!

I toned down my expectations since it's just a handheld, and can't deliver the sort of epic all time great experiences that a console can, so I'm enjoying it a bit more.

Try Call of Duty 4 and 5 for the DS. I haven't tried 5 personally, but 4 was actually pretty good.

I'm not going to play a shooter on my DS. I could save myself the time and slice my eyes now before the jaggies do.

If I were stuck on an island with only one system and it's entire library, i'd choose the DS. Mainly because it has such a diverse library. There is something for just about everyone. All genres are represented in some way on the DS.
