With the recent controversy golfer Tiger Woods has found himself embroiled in, Forbes National Editor Michael Ozanian believes that the biggest name in golf is done being a pitchman. Ozanian claims that companies like Electronic Arts, which publishes the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series, will drop Woods "regardless of what they are saying now."
Well, we were actually curious to hear what EA is saying now, so we contacted the publisher. A spokesperson for the company informed Joystiq, "There is no change in our marketing strategy for the franchise. Our strong relationship with Tiger for more than a decade remains unchanged."
Site Gamerinvestments.com believes there's "no way" EA is going to drop Woods. Its logic: "There is simply no other golfer that EA Sports can replace him with and there is no way that they are going to stop making one of their most successful games."

@Chris
The media loves this type of stuff. The fact that Eldrick has always been so reserved and guarded about everything makes the media and public more fascinated. It hasn't gotten near the coverage that the Jon and Kate divorce did so we haven't hit critical mass yet. You better buckle in because it's going to be a long and bumpy ride. Also, I don't buy the "he's a wealthy, famous man" excuse for his cheating ways. He made the decision to get married and even though it doesn't mean as much to most people as it used to he still took an oath to be faithful and basically spit in his wife's face. He deserves this and I'm happy the house of cards crashed on his head. I know that sounds harsh but one thing I don't have respect for is infidelity. Don't get married if you aren't ready to settle down or if you aren't happy have some dignity and respect to dissolve the marriage.

Letterman also came out and owned it and basically killed the story because he exposed the secret. Tiger played it tight lipped and made it more of a story. Thats the difference ... and as pedo bear said Letterman isn't married.

exactly what the people above me said - I wouldn't care that much about this whole thing except that he is married. If you want to go around fucking girls in clubs everywhere in the world, go right ahead, BUT DON'T GET MARRIED FIRST.

Not only is he married, but it's got all the makings of a great 'news' story. And by news I mean reality show. The fact that there's a new mistress, a new allegation, or a new juicy bit of info every other day keeps the story alive. Like you said, he could have killed it by getting out in front of it early on, but judging by how many women are out there I don't blame him for wanting to stay in his bunker (ha!).

I don't think there is anyone that captures the attention and interest of the younger market for games enough to be given a golf franchise like Woods was. Golf isn't exactly what every kid runs out to play, nor are its participants collected in the form of 'Golf Cards' in mass.

This has become so overblown it's ridiculous. All he did was cheat on his wife, big fuckin deal just about every athlete cheats on their wife. I'm not saying it's right, but it's certainly not illegal, and it's hypocritical for the American public/media to make a big deal seeing as we have a 50% divorce rate.
What's even more hilarious is they needed Tiger to do this to see that he's a douchebag. The guy's been an asshole forever now, always throwing his clubs and cursing on the course, yelling at fans and sending his bouncer/caddie after them, and refusing to sign autographs.

It's not that he cheated, it's that he considers himself a role model, then he cheated. That never goes well.

I don't have any grudge against Tiger, I'm just not blind like everyone else seems to be. I watch sportscenter all the time and they always show him doing that shit, while all the other golfers act the right way.
Tiger's a dirtbag, which is why I wasn't shocked to find out he cheated (a lot).

They dropped Eldrick completely and are distancing themselves from any affiliation over this recent incident. No endorsement from gatorade. It's also basically been confirmed that Nike is about to drop all Tiger Woods lines and endorsements as well.

If Ray Lewis can be the cover athlete of Madden four years after he was tried for murder, I think Tiger should be ok. Brett Favre had to go to drug rehab for an addiction to painkillers, and is still the pitchman for tons of products. Hell, Michael Vick spent two years in a federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison and is well on his way to being a starting NFL quarterback again. Many athletes have gotten past much worse.

OJ was pretty much blackballed and had zero sponsorships ... oh and writing that book "if I had killed her this is how I would have done it" didn't help him much either. He had his freedom but his image never recovered.

I think the fact here is that Tiger Woods is silly, if he had cheated before he got famous or at least at the start, he wouldnt be tainted because there would be nothing to taint :D
But when you make yourself seem like a saint, then prove to people you are not, then you do get tainted when you do wrong. Its like finding out Hamilton just punched a bouncer in the face, as opposed to Vinnie Jones punching a bouncer int he face :D

They should replace Tiger with John Madden. In fact, they should replace all of their brands with John Madden. His brilliant/retarded commentary would improve any sports game, even the near-perfect FIFA 10.

Gatorade dropped their Tiger branded drink already and there was also a congressman who had been sponsring Tiger for a congressional gold medal that dropped his sponsorship. I wonder how long before Nike and EA decides to cut him loose from his lucrative endorsement deals.
