...other than the fact that they have less people to help make them.

QA doesn't make products. Basically they're turning their testing department into one of those soulless sweatshops (think Microsoft QA). Not good, but those guys don't *make* the games.

Fair enough, but it's still less people doing work that help to increase the overall quality of a game and make sure it's finished. Unless a company is a compete mess and can't get shit done, "restructuring" like this is almost always bad.

Fact of the matter is they spent more money on licensing then probably any title in gaming history has ever had to pay with The Beatles, and in 3 months they've moved less then 2 million copies copies. That's by no means a failure, but I don't think that's quite the numbers they were hoping for when they spent millions on licensing. While MTV Games claims the two things are unrelated, I find that hard to believe.

this couldn't have anything to do with the fact that Harmonix will basically be releasing developer tools so that anyone can create dlc tracks and upload them to the marketplace, could it?

why pay people when labels and bands can do all the work for you, and then you get paid off of the sale of their work?

Don't be a fucking idiot. The Rock Band Network is an incredibly consumer-friendly project, the type of thing that Activision would never invest in. And I expect it will take a couple of years for Harmonix to recoup their investment in RBN.

RBN is not in any way replacing weekly DLC releases, it just provides an alternative channel for people who otherwise wouldn't get a chance to release their music over Rock Band.

I'm a little disheartened by "The Beatles: Rock Band has sold over 1 million units worldwide to date." Those don't sound like great numbers to me, especially when the Beatles estate is supposedly in line to receive tens of millions in royalties off this game.

@copa -- That's disconcerting. I'm sure a game like that needs to sell well beyond a million copies worldwide to be profitable. It's a shame, because it's a brilliant game featuring some of the best music ever made.

Wonder if they released some of the forum maintenance people since that place is all glitched up now.

That's sad. Here's hoping they keep up the steady stream of DLC.
