Terrifying video game news site Rely On Horror claims to have recently gotten its hands on the next issue of Game Informer, which contains a pretty comprehensive breakdown of the new methods of Necromorph murder featured in Dead Space 2. According to the site, the Informer article reveals that the game's designers are trying to make the game spookier, placing hero Isaac Clarke (who learned the ability to speak between games, it seems) in more death-defying situations, and likely a few impossible-to-defy-death situations as well.
According to the report, the game's action has moved off of the Ishimura, instead placing Clarke on the similarly monster-infested interstellar city Sprawl, which dwarfs the original game's setting in size. Finally, the article supposedly ends with the developer dropping the following tease regarding multiplayer: "All I can say is it's really fun, and you'll get to strategically dismember your friends." Oh, man -- Bushido Laser-Saw confirmed! Or, rather, it might be confirmed. There's no way to tell for sure until we get our hands on the Clarke-covered magazine.

@ Storm Eagle: Including the suits at EA when they realize that not only are they completely out of touch with their demographic consumers, they are irresponsibly indifferent.

I wonder if you were replying to my "hillbilly" comment.
It was obviously a joke.

I know...but couldn't resist an opportunity to rag on the execs at EA. After all, they didn't give a toss about Dead Space until AFTER it made an exponential amount of money more than they initially thought it would.
Dead Space is srs bznz, yo.

I'm not sure Issac talking is such a good idea, it added a level of isolation to the first game that really stood out for me.
Multiplayer is not something I am looking for in my Dead Space experience and I could care less if it's in there or not. As long as it doesn't effect development of single player...

Dead Space began to feel like a chore for me after about chapter 8. I think I prefer the game more when there's less going on. The sense of solitude and the thought that something could pop out at any moment is much more frightening than being hit with a barrage of monsters every 5 minutes.
I hope Dead Space 2 adjusts the games balance in this regard.

Exactly, its not scary anymore when you can easily expect monsters to lunge at you at every corner.

I hope it gets rid of the expected linearity of monster fights...but that's probably expecting too much.
e.g. each time you play the game, the monster placement is completely (but logically) random. that's what the first game promised but never lived up to.

Playing as the infected works in Left 4 Dead. Why not give it a shot here? I'd be more concerned about their ideas for single player. It seems like they are overbuffing Issac as if he's Master Chief. As much as I loved the original Dead Space, I still wanted it to be more claustrophobic and threatening.
They say the risky situations will multiply in the next one, but that can mean anything. That could be just more big monster boss battles and firefights. I want the "oh no, I have to walk through this flickering hallway with only a shiv to protect me" kind of tension.

If adding MP is the only way I get to enjoy Dead Space 2 then I'll take it.

I hope DS2 doesn't drop the ball when it comes to being a successor to DS...
it'll be fun trying to see two people try to either flail at each other with their arms, or more amusingly, try to curb-stomp each other. I wonder how this part's going to work.

Now I want to hear someone who's desperate, not a bald marine or a robot. I wanna hear him freaking out, sobbing, yelling, trying to take a deep breath after a tough moment... that would be awesome. I just hope that he doesnt speak too much.... silence also plays a big part in DS.
