Nooooo!! Army of Two was great BECAUSE it had so much over the top ridiculousness! I mean, what other game allows you to fist bump with your partner??
Some of the best dialogue ever too: "Survey says: you're dead!"

This is not the direction I would have gone with this. Every game seems to be going with this hyper-realistic, block-buster, Micheal Bay, action style that takes itself way too seriously. I would have gone the complete opposite way and brought this into the realm of Commando, Tango & Cash, etc. Super cheesy lines when you kill guys, funny banter between the two characters and such. Just make it really fun, cheesy, and mindless.
Side note - why did the villian in Commando look like a fat Freddie Mercury wearing a chain male vest and leather pants?!
"Let off some steam, Bennet"

Did you even pay attention to the story? It was like a knock-off of a Tom Clancy book.
Still and all, the game was fun. I very much enjoyed pimping each and every weapon. GOOOOOOOLLLDD!

The first game was fine, but lacked those stand-out moments that can make a game great and had many little quirks I didn't enjoy. Everything I've seen from the sequel leads me to believe that they have improved everything I enjoyed (coop play, weapon customization) and toned down the things I didn't like (ridiculous macho asshats, stupid story). On top of that the new location looks incredible, judging based on the in-game footage they have shown, with a more detail and colour.
I'm looking forward to this game much more than I thought I would.

Actually...there is a hug button. When not in combat pressing A does a positive emote, and B does a negative. There are a bunch of different emotes, but Rios can give Salem a giant bear hug...

I didn't realize blowing stuff up qualified as 'more serious'.

Apparently you missed how horribly that was received from the first game.
