Bible Adventures, the first console title from Left Behind Games, will "educate young children by teaching them academic lessons vital to early childhood development through Bible stories." Based on the Charlie Church Mouse series, the game will not only span both the Old and New Testament, but should also teach mathematics, spelling and "reasoning skills."
Left Behind CEO Troy Lyndon noted (via GamePolitics) that expanding their offerings to home consoles should expand not only their reach, but their wallets. "We expect our financial projections to grow exponentially as we transition from a PC game developer to a Wii & Xbox developer."
But what about PS3 owners? Well ... they can go to hell.

As a child, I realized something: No matter how hard you try, religion and learning can never be made "fun" or "cool". And if you think you can make it fun or cool, you are not fun and uncool.

Geez, I enjoy a few laughs at the expense of Bible-thumpers as much as the next guy, but all the blatantly anti-religious sentiment in this comments section is actually making me want to try and defend it.
People act like religion is the end-all source of evil. It isn't. You're thinking of human nature. Religion is, at worst a social construct that serves as an enabler to the worst human tendencies, and at best one of the most powerful forces keeping people from butchering each other in the streets. Even if you don't believe in it and think many people who do go to extremes - hell, I find those hyper-religious people who advertise their faith to be downright insufferable - to vilify it outright is just as closed-minded and intolerant as you accuse it of being.
And this game is just a piece of software designed for people who do believe in the Bible to get for their children. Sure it'll probably be hilariously lame, but it isn't (as far as I'm aware) preaching homophobia, racism, political values or anything like that. If anything it will enhance video games' street cred with people who might otherwise condemn them universally as social abominations. If you don't like it, you can always enjoy GTA or MadWorld (a.k.a. games that would be waking nightmares to conservative Christians).

I agree, I'm about as far from religious as they come, but some of these antagonistic comments are way out of line.

Nope, it is the religious people who need to grow up, and start thinking instead of acting like little children.
There is no sky god who has a plan for you to execute. Grow up, and take control of your own life.

@Dreaded Fear: I guess if those religious folks "grow up" they'll realize that real men ridicule other men's ideologies, am I right?
Seriously though, if you're secretly trying to demonstrate that being closed-minded, intolerant, and obnoxious about your beliefs has nothing to do with religion, you're doing a great job of it.

There is nothing intolerant about making observations of people who believe in magic.
I think it is quite intolerant that the religious don't believe in science, even with the incredible amount of evidence.
No point arguing with those who have been brainwashed.

@Dreaded Fear
So what about people like me who work for their church and highly value science and the contributions of science to humanity? Or my uncle who is both an ordained lay minister and chemical biologist for sanofi-aventis? Or my cousin who is an ordained lay minister and a student at Wisconsin getting his Ph. D. in analytical chemistry? Or my alma mater, a Christian-sponsored school that just spent $10M on renovating their science building to teach the latest discoveries in science without a Bible to "fact check" the scientific findings.
Sure, Christianity (and other religions) has caused a lot of violence in the world, and there is no excuse for it. Hatred and bigotry still happens today. While it was slavery in America in the yesteryear, now it's anti-homosexuality that gets all the headlines and very prominent, public "Christian" figures get the spotlight to hate on homosexuals. While they might be living out their own modern day "crusade" against homosexuality and other "abominations", smaller groups of Christians encourage people to think about their religion, challenge the Bible and - here it comes - use reason to actually identify why they believe some things (it just might be possible to mix the two - reason and "magic").
I'm glad to belong to a church that doesn't just say the Bible is the literal, infallible word of God. I prefer the scholarly-critical approach to studying the Bible to help me understand humanity and the divine as portrayed in that time, using extra-Biblical sources (Greek, Hebrew, Egyptian, etc) to fact check. For some, that seriously ruins their faith, but for me it helps me secure my faith.
My belief is that reason and religion - healthy, respectful, open-minded, patient and understanding religion - can work together in tandem to better humanity.
Oh yea, and I'll be sarcastic as the next guy on occasion.

Hmm... it is kind of nice, from a Christian perspective, to see a game developer try to bring games of this nature to the consoles. After all, there are quite a few parents out there who would be overjoyed to have their kids learn the basics from a Bible-based approach.
However... this is from the same company that created the video games based on the "Left Behind" series of books. These video games essentially told the player that people who didn't convert to Christianity were minions of Satan, and they were encouraged to actively find and kill the offenders. In the video game, of course. The game didn't even depict blood and gore when people were shot or hit with car bombs and bodies merely disappeared after a few seconds. You know, just like in real life.
In any case, it was a supposedly Christian game with a very un-Christian message driving it. Not only was it another attempt to capitalize on religion, it made both gamers and Christians look bad.
I'm definitely passing on this one.

I don't see the point in any of you attacking each other based on religious beliefs. I think people should believe in whatever they want to believe(They have to be within reason of course).
One flawless method for humanity to finally end violence and bring peace in this world is a mass extermination of the human race. It doesn't matter what you believe in or how hard you're trying to be "good"; the primate instincts that we all have will always exist and disagreements will always happen between one person and the other, thus triggering acts of violence and malicious intent against the other.

As someone who visits this site on a daily basis it's extremely sad to see how many people would defend a game like this. These are most likely the same people who have no problem spouting vile hate speech on Xbox Live, but claim to follow the loving words of jesus christ. It's probably no exaggeration to say that 90% of christians are the biggest hypocrites you'll ever meet in your life. As David Cross once said "The Bible truly is one of the funniest books I've ever read. ... It was written thousands of years ago, when people were even dumber than they are today..."

I don't think anyone is defending the game. I see a lot of immature folks using the topic to antagonize other users for their personal beliefs. I'm an atheist myself, but I don't think that's right, regardless of what side you're on.

I appreciate the news, but will reserve further judgment until more is known. Sadly, most Christian-themed games are poorly implemented or poorly conceived (Left Behind the video game - ugh). If people want to buy it for their family, that's fine. If they don't, that's fine. I'd just like the game to actually be worth buying and not something that people slapped a "Christian" label on and threw it out the door. I'll take a look at the final product when it comes out or is closer and see more details. There's not a lot to go on right now.
The thing is that there's potential to have a good game in the same way that movies have potential to make a good game. Similarly, they rarely do.

Ohh my God. Absolutely everyone in this thread is a complete hypocrite. From the atheists calling God a "sky god" and referring to peoples beliefs as magic. To the Christians and other religious folk condemning those who don't agree with them.
I'd like to say I am extremely offended by every person acting this way in the comments. You have no right to speak to people or make generalizations in such a way as you are. Obviously some issues are never going to be resolved. That being said we should try to discuss these topics in a civilized fashion, without all of the sarcasm and self-righteousness the Internet comes with.

Religion is a LIE, and now the batshit crazy christofascist right is spending millions of its charity dollars to brainwash young children.
These evangelical/born again christian freaks are the ones responsible for the collapse of the american war empire.
Since we are a war empire. COD MW 2 should be a mandatory class in high school and college, we don't need to teach our kids more lies, and bullshit, fairy tales and about shit that happen 2010 years ago,its fucking irrelevant, we need to teach them and prepare them for modern warfare, since we are and forever, will be a war country, this of course as long as corporations and banks rule America.
