After playing the demo.. I was a little "meh" about it as well. It really did feel like I was play God of War. Not only were the similarities as bright as on-coming headlights, but just from the demo, it felt like they were trying too damn hard to hit a similar note.
Copying another game is one thing, but (IMO) a developer should add their own subtle touches. I didn't need the button smashing sequences in this one, I didn't need to see Beatrice's rusty-dusty breast (came off as tasteless), and the action was a bit sloppy. They had the opportunity to have a game with the onslaught of God of War, and mix it with fine combat/combo mechanics, the hectic game just worked better for Kratos.
The graphics, could have used a little bit of tightening, and the 2d cutscenes were a little jarring at first (only because they looked half-assed [a new artist please]).
And I agree with another poster, Death begging for mercy...again, trying too hard.

Touche.. but I must add, withered and dead tits are neither just no. I mean when you come across her dead body, okay, but then the horrid looking apparition that follows, NO. That's like drinking sour milk, you just don't do that.

Very much looking forward to this game.

Very much NOT looking forward to any more insipid publicity stunts they have planned in place of actual marketing.

I still dont know why ppl complain. A once famous artist said and i quote :

"A good artist copies, a great artist steals"
Pablo Picasso.

At least EA knew how and what to steal so kudos goes to them.

The animated cut scenes were very Ralph Bakshi-esque, and don't quite seem to fit. The game itself doesn't seem nearly as interesting as God of War, but the first levels of the God of War games may have had boring bad guys too, I can't remember. I was surprised they could release a downloadable demo with nudity, though, since anyone can get it.

I'll definitely get God of War 3, and maybe Bayonetta, so I can't see myself plunking down $60 on what seems like an also-ran to me.

I am sure this is going to be beating a dead horse but after playing the demo I just cant help it... HOW IS THIS NOT COPYRIGHT INFRINGMENT??? This game plays exactly like GOW... I mean literally just like... If you back away from your screen and squint real hard you can just about see Kratos running around this game world... I had heard it borrowed from Sony's game but WOW - I didnt expect it to be a long lost twin seperated at birth...

Conan (2007) was a God of War rip as well. In fact its graphics, animation, and gameplay were about on par with this Dante demo. The only God of War game I have played however was on the PSP and in my opinion it was leaps and bounds better than this Dante demo.

Did anyone else play the 2007 Conan game? It was a God of War wannabe as well.

Played the demo. Liked the upgrade tree over GOW's time consuming system. I was disappointed with the holy attacks, maybe they get more interesting. The locales are awesome, great visual potential but I don't know how the story will hold up when compared to GOW.

Unless I see something to wow me this will be a rental, while I wait for GOW 3.

I never get why people say that all the time, I mean, yeah the game looks kinda tacky and lame with the whole "Oh our game is so badass with the demons and the blood and the horrible stuff also it's the Divine Comedy" thing, but if the gameplay is like God of War... so what? I mean, can that also be said with all the Halos and the Call of Dutys and the Medal of Honors and with the Forzas and Need for Speeds and GTs, etc??? I mean, since when does it have to exist JUST ONE game for each genre????

It's like GTA and open-world gaming was born, and then came Mercenaries and Crackdown and all those, so what if they're similar, some people prefer the latter games and some people don't but it's okay if they exist, it's not like they're breaking some divine rule (ba-dum-dum) by doing a new game around a known gameplay style.

Well, I played the demo. It was okay. The fight with "Death" was drawn out way too long. It's also just another button masher. But it had boobies in it, so props for that! I'll definitely rent this game when it comes out.

Robotoid, you're the only one who makes any sense here. I was going to say exactly that. Just think what the world would be like if nobody ever copied anything. There would only be one of everything. What's the fun in that? How come nobody ever complains about other games being similar?

I don't understand the logic behind bitching about this game's similarity to GOW.

Yes, it's the EXACT SAME formula. I love it.

The GOW games perfected the action game experience; I love action games; therefore I wish there were a hundred games just like GOW.

Hell, turn some farking Mother Goose rhymes into hack 'n slash button mashery. I don't care. I want. Gimme.

Give Hannah Montana a scimitar and set her loose at Nickelodeon headquarters. I'll play that shit.

See, the problem with your ideas is that it'd be AWESOME to play a GoW clone with those settings. It's called irony.

EA's Dante's Inferno is NOT ironic. Not only is it a gameplay clone, they try to make it more broody and more dark than God of War was. It's like Spider-Man 3, but without the jazz club.

Everyones argument about Dante's Inferno being a rip off of God of War is just absolutely absurd, in reality now there's no such thing as an original idea for a video game concept. Everyone copies ideas from eachother, and the better game is automatically going to look "better". What makes shooting games different from one another besides the plot? Not a fucking thing.

I haven't played the demo for GOW3 or Dante's Inferno (shit I haven't been on my PS3 since I got Borderlands for the 360), but they're both great ideas that I'm sure everyone loves; GOW was great because it perfected the feel of ancient Greek mythology, and I'm pretty sure EA is going to make a better Hell than iD did for Doom 3.

Try playing GoW1 / GoW2 and then play the demo for Dante's inferno. Once you are done that, come back and see how silly your comments are about them not being identical.

After having just played through the God of War collection and then playing the Dante's Inferno demo, I have to say that I was blown away at how much they copied from the God of War series. The combos are the same, the health/mana chests (fountains) are the same, the way you open doors is the same, double jumps with combos, holding R1 to slide down the ladders, the guys who ride the bull creatures (like the dudes who ride the cyclops in Gow), even the magic system is the same. During the demo, I even noticed the whole "kill all the guys to open the door before the spike thing crushes you" sequence was exactly the same as GoW. How can people say it's different than GoW???

It does looks nice but the camera panning, the grand music, it all screams God of War. I was hoping for something more refined and for them to at least evolve the genre... Instead, they ripped everything off down to the last detail. Even during the montage at the end of the demo, you can see how Dante is climbing along a rope just like Kratos does in GoW...

I know where my money is going - to the innovator, not the imitator.

At least the 360 owners will be able to have an idea of what GoW 1 and 2 were like because it seems that Dante's Inferno is going to sum them all up in one game. I wonder if there will be a Colossus of Rhodes type of boss??? ;)
