Huzzah! No more of your intense Headquarters Pro matches will be interrupted by gargantuan, killer shockwaves expelled by morally dubious combatants. That is to say, Modern Warfare 2's Javelin glitch, which enabled a dirty, cheating player to instantly detonate upon death, was fixed earlier this morning by a patch for the Xbox 360 version of the game. According to a recent tweet from Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling, the PS3 version of the game has already received the patch.
In addition to removing the Javelin's unadvertised self-immolation feature, the patch also fixes the equally insidious "unlimited care packages" glitch, and fixes a few areas where players could exploit gaps in the game's geography. In a perfect world, Infinity Ward would have also sent parcels to the houses of anyone who leveraged these exploits -- parcels full of bees. The bad kind. The kind you see on the Discovery Channel. The ones that can kill a full-grown elephant with a surprisingly small swarm.

I'm really struck by the contrasting experiences I had playing Modern Warfare 2 and Brutal Legend.
With MW2, every time there was a cutscene, I ended up thinking, "Stop! Stop! Shut the fuck up! You're not making any sense! I am getting dumber every second I am exposed to this story! Get me back to that smooth, addictive gameplay!"
With Brutal Legend, you had engaging characters, incredible voice acting, hilarious dialog, and an absolutely flawless soundtrack (this from a guy who's not a diehard metal fan). The atmospherics were perfect. But I always found myself facepalming, "Not another GAMEPLAY segment!", and hoping to grind my way through to the next part of the story.
I guess if it's an either/or thing, gameplay wins out over story. I'm still playing MW2 every day, and I mailed Brutal Legend out to Goozex almost before the end credits stopped rolling. But when you can get story plus gameplay going, you have got an immersive experience (see: Batman/Uncharted 2).

Awesome. Last night was my very first time playing MW2's online MP. Sad to say that by the second game I had this glitch used on me. Glad to know it's gone. IW, you may not be my favorite, but at least you are on top of your patching.

Either you're unlucky or I'm very lucky. I've put about 30 hours into the MP and have only seen someone use that exploit once (the day after I saw my first article about it actually).

Thankfully he didn't abuse it the rest of the match. He was reported by many very quickly though. I hope he regrets it.

I have 12 hours of multiplayer under my belt, and I've never seen either glitch. I'm curious if it was not as prevalent as advertised, or if higher-level players were much more likely to be matched up with Javelin-wielders.
Sadly, I just earned Lightweight Pro, and the patch also nerfs Lightweight. Time to go perk-shopping again.

I've got 30+ hours in, and I've never had this glitch used on me. I've only been hit by a javelin once period.
Did any of you really run into this enough to call it a problem?

Maybe I was unlucky and came across a guy who caught wind of the patching so decided to get his last minute of fun in. Who knows. My buddy has logged quite a few hours also and only until last night has he never seen it used in a game, which was the same game it was used on me. I haven't heard too much complaint about it though.

for me, when the glitch was first discovered I would find two to three javlin glitchers per room! As MS said they were banning people for it, it dropped off some, but I still had a few last night that still did it. I thought it was a HUGE problem... Then again, all I play is HQ, the worst mode for it

I can see why HQ would be the main mode the glitch was used in. I usually stick to Team DM, so that could be why I haven't run into the problem. Either way, it is good that it is gone now. One less thing to worry about.

If you play in the Ground War playlist people use the javelin glitch most often in the Domination gametype. The confluence of more targets, plus a likely and known spot on the map where they will be made the glitch exploit users come out of the woodwork.
I played for 3 hours last night, never left the lobby (of my own accord), reported six javelin glitch exploiters. Except for the first day it became widely known (when you'd see whole teams using the glitch), that's been about par for the course for every gaming session.
What's unfortunate is the fact that my friends and I are always reticent to drop out of a lobby where we actually all got paired up in without being dropped... so we stay in the game lobby with the exploiters.
Interestingly, nine times out of ten, when these gamers aren't using the javelin glitch they end up using the Akimbo 1887s with Marathon, Lightweight and Commando. I'm not saying that's "wrong," it just shows what clicks with a certain gaming personality type.
Honestly, from the beginning I saw the riot shields (and later the 1887s) as a form of developer sponsored griefing tool. Like here is something for all those that can't or won't be bothered with aiming at and then shooting at a target in a FPS multiplayer game. At least with those annoyances there is some form balance to the grief (semtex for the riot shield and assault rifles plus distance/space for the 1887s). As annoying as I might find those things to be, I still think they have a place in the game because they have countermeasures to them (plus they are rarely used effectively), unlike the javelin glitch.

Finally, I was tired of sending massive Complains for Cheating (which is what you are supposed to do, since MS themselves said it was a ban deserving offense).
Now, IW, can you please fix the squad feature when connecting to games, I keep losing my friends when I enter a game type and have to all back out and try again multiple times. Also, remove the party chat restrictions on some of the other game types, not just ground war, it is absolutely not necessary except on S&D or Hardcore game types possibly.
Also, WTF is my Headquarters "Normal mode" games? I don't want to play pro headquarters!

I agree nightmare. I find it strange that you can party chat in like 3 of the 4 game modes but only if you are alone. I see no reason to restrict private chatting on TDM and domination when it is allowed in ground war. Does the 1-6 extra players really make ghosting not a problem anymore? Not really.

A way around party chat on the 360 version is to change your XBOX Live voice options to friends only. BAM! Party chat, no more 12 year olds squealing in your ears anymore (that is unless you are friends with said 12 year olds). Just make sure you are friends with everyone you party up with.

So setting these in the privacy settings will make it to where I can only hear my friends and they can only hear me? Or does the rest of the game still hear you?

You forgot to include the dual shot gun problem. I am not kidding you, I got freakin' sniped by a dual-wielding shotgun child in Afghan! I was in the bunker, and he was on the top of the hill over-looking the crashed plane. I'll right, i'm exaggerating a little but FIX THE STUPID SHOT GUNS!!!!

That's probably a problem with you or your friends routers. Make sure that everybody is set to "OPEN" NAT type or that will keep happening. One of our friends always gets tossed from games because he can't control his router settings (lives in a shared house sublet, old lady owns the router)... happens in almost any party game, NHL '10, CoDMW2, CoD4, Halo, etc. Anything where a party connects to a single host, the two of them don't get along.
So take a look at your router and open it up. It'll fix your problems.

HQ PRO is "normal" ... its not hardcore...
the "Pro" part is there because they changed the gameplay a bit and didn't want people to expect the same old stuff... now, once a hq is revealed, it takes 30 seconds to become ready to capture...
It basically makes it so that the team that just did the capturing that is respawning have a little bit of time to get to the next point before the other guys get it...

They really need to work on their naming conventions over at IW. Is the "pro" on HQ even explained anywhere?
Plus they never said what the different was between TDM and TDM express another than express has faster matchmaking...but why is express faster? Does it mean we'll be dropped into more partial matches on the losing side of the round? etc etc. Those kinds of things matter.

To the above poster; the TDM Express lessens the time between matches, not the time it takes to matchmake.

no, the one that requires a usb key, you download this thing off a site, replace the mw2 data you have, and it gives you all 69 stars + trophies (you earn 28% of the trophies) its retarded, atleast in my opinion. You need to work hard to earn that kind of stuff.

I watched the "tutorial" video and I still don't get whats going on. I don't own this game and have never played nor ever plan to play it, but I didn't see a javelin anywhere in there. Maybe JRPG's have distorted my view of such a weapon or maybe it's just some slang thats over my head, but could someone explain this to me so that when I watch the video again I can say stuff "oh man good one" or the formerly popular "n00b got pwnd". I don't care how to do it, just wanna know what takes place when it happens.

Since it's fixed essentially you would prime a grenade, switch weapons, and become a walking time bomb. I don't know entirely the details but that is the gist of what I have heard.

The Javelin is an anti-tank missile that is fired from the launcher that you see if you watch the youtube videos above. In the game, you're able to lock on to areas and helicopters, but the glitch allows you to explode in a 30-ft radius if you die, so people used it like suicide bombers, getting themselves free kills from knifing or from exploding.

Earlier this morning I was in a TDM game on 360 and everyone had full auto grenade launchers and rockets with infinite ammo. It was weird as hell. Even the javelin was full auto. Looking at it firing from across the map it looked like a big ass conveyor belt. I dont noob tube but I switched to the pre made grenadier class and even I had an auto launcher. Is this a new glitch or what? Anybody else ever seen it?
