According to CVG, the recently teased Pirates of the Caribbean content pack for LittleBigPlanet was not only recently confirmed by Sony, but also given a tentative launch window: "We're expecting it to launch just before Xmas," an unnamed Sony rep explained.
If the prospect of platforming as a dreadlock'ed Sack Sparrow isn't exciting enough for you, CVG is also reporting that, as you probably assumed, the Water expansion will be arriving simultaneously with the Pirates pack. Well, of course it would. Can you imagine how much shorter those movies would have been if they didn't have any water? We reached out to Sony and Media Molecule to get confirmation of the two packs' imminence first-hand, but only received a "we don't comment on rumors and speculation" from the former. We'll let you know when we hear more!

yay for finally getting water, this will force a return to LBP for me, i haven't played in so long. also, lol @ Sack Sparrow. i'm guessing there will be no Orlando Bloom character sackboy, because it seems natural that he be... sackless.

don't blame MediaMolecule. Blame Square Enix, I'm guessing they held up the rights and both sides couldn't come up with an agreement. I'm sure MediaMolecule isn't asking for too much but Square Enix is. If we've seen ACII DLC which is a 3rd party character approved by Ubisoft I can't see why Square Enix can't agree to something by now.

about time!
i love the game so much, but if there is one thing ive noticed when it comes to expansion packs, you have to keep them coming. if you wait too long, people just get sick of waiting, and eventually stop caring.
a few games that did a good job though:
Fallout 3
The Sims
most big FPS's (map packs in CoD/Halo/etc)
a year is just a little too long for level expansions for a game like this. i know the community levels do pretty well, and make some seriously good quality games, but if they want to keep the audience entertained, and keep bringing more people into the genre, they need to keep the pace up fairly well.
next? sack-boy tools, like grappling hooks and the like.

actually, when these level packs come out, it makes me start to care again, honestly, the addition of water will bring me back to this game, and keep me playing for weeks on end. just like i did in the beginning, just like after the paintinator was introduced. they could have waited 2 years, and released a full priced sequel that added nothing but water and a paintball gun, but instead, they charge us a rather insignificant and OPTIONAL fee, and keep the original game going. it's wonderful. i reason it takes about a year for the community to have amassed enough good levels based around a new gameplay mechanic to make it more than worth the $6 or whatever they're charging. and next year they'll add the next cool thing, and they can keep doing that for years. because at $6 an upgrade, it would be 10 yrs worth of new mechanics and millions of great levels before we would have spent enough to equal 1 half-assed sequel. other game franchises should take note. sorry this response was so long!

im not saying i'd rather see sequels, and they have already said that they dont plan to have one for quite some time. but by just this thread alone you can see how many people traded the game in/sold the game over the past year. and these people tend to be the more hard core fans.
im mostly just concerned that a lot of the people that bought the game new wont bother getting it again, where if they would have updated it more frequently with DLC these people would have never gotten bored with it in the first place.

I imagine that their schedule is jam packed, testing water, securing new DLC costumes, making new content for patches, testing said content. I'm surprised they have kept this up so far, bravo Media Molecule.

how is it nickle and diming? Who say's you have to buy any DLC at all? It doesn't add anything solid to the games experience when buying a costume. That DLC is there to support the game and to give people an option to buy what they choose and like personally.
Oh and I'm talking about the level kits, which are great for make your own levels. As for the FF DLC ask Square Enix why they held up the rights for so long and why they can't come up with an agreement. MediaMolecule can't release it until it's set in stone by both sides legally.
MM levels are great but I've found just as many great levels for FREE online by the community.

I'd rather shell out for DLC packs that add to the game for cheap then shelling out another $60 for a sequel. This game was made to be expanding with no purpose for sequels. Plus I like the idea that I'm not forced to download everything, I can pick and choose what I want.

MediaMolecule is also busy fixing the game with patches, and fine tuning everything before releasing an enormous element such as water into the game. They could have easily done another level pack but they wanted to bring something totally new along with it. These arent just level packs but a basis for the community to see and how water levels work so the we can take that and incorporate into the game ourselves.

Pirates and zombies: two things that automatically make me avoid a game.
Hey developers: Find some new go-to themes for when you run out of good ideas. . . PLEASE.

This is just a DLC pack, it's optional. You're not a fan of pirates or zombies? Great, don't buy the DLC. It's not required to play the game.
And this is a pack that will help LBP get more publicity, hopefully get more sells, and also get the Water dlc packs flowing. Not that it needs any help, LBP Water is amazing.

LBP is a great game, you're right.
I'm just bitching about the over-use of zombies and pirates in general. . . zombies especially. Enough already.

"How many decent level packs have you made in the past year?"
And there we have it. The main draw of the game is to CREATE and SHARE your own levels. It also amazes me that people cannot grasp the concept, that perhaps MM is not a 100 man team, therefore they cannot make 10+ levels for everyone complaining about the lack of new levels on their part.
Considering gaming of this generation, DLC is only natural. What makes LBP any different from Modern Warfare 2 and there map packs, etc. (which would be 2-3 levels every eight to ten months, basically)?

You do know MM has been thumping that "We'll provide the tools, you do the work" pulpit from day one right?
The only reason we're getting level packs to give creators a better understanding on how to use the new items without churning out 43 thousand turd levels.

If this was Valve, they would release the same game with all they have added or plan to add as a full-priced game and call it LBP2
