Transformers staying home for Transformers: War for Cybertron

The latest Transformers game, War for Cybertron, takes place before the Autobots and Decepticons arrived on Earth. As such, they have no concept of our Earth "trucks" and "awesome jets," and can only transform into ... things that look pretty much like trucks and awesome jets, but alien.

The teaser after the break introduces the setting for the new High Moon-developed title, and Game Informer promises more info on its constantly updating War for Cybertron hub page. If the new locale and exotic transformations don't grab you, think about this: all humans are millions of miles away from Cybertron, so unlike the movies, you'll actually get to see the Transformers in this game.

This whole planeteer thing is worse than the sweatshop thing.

I'm more worried about the giant crabs that come after.

It's kinda hard to think of a gameplay mechanic that would work and make the mission gameplay fun.
would the game lose it's quality if it made two campaigns instead of focusing only on one side (most likely the autobots) do to the failure of the previous games?

There was one good Transformers game, I wish there would be another.

You're right Transformers Armada was the only good. one.

I guess I'm a tad bit younger, but my personal favorite is BeastWars. It was so cool how the stories all linked up with the bigger picture of the original Transformers.

I especially liked the evolution of the characters both physically and mentally. Memories!

this is what i wished the movies would be, just big robots beating the crap out of each other, no stupid human drama. this game looks promising, and it isn't based on the movies so already i like it.

a truck in a highway turning into a robot...why did they build a highway for? Also i want megatron to be a gun.

Well, if they can all basically fly, then it seems odd that some would transform into vehicles there and build roads for the same.

One explanation: Well a robot society presumably needs to transport resources around. Sometimes it's more efficient to do so on wheels than to fly about.

Alternative explanation: Who the hell cares? It's just an excuse for cool future cars to transform into badass robots and immediately start causing explosions.

The Autobots represent the working man, the average citizen, forced to take up arms to defend what's theirs. Nothing represents the working man better than a heavy duty killmobile.

well it does look promising. You know alot of people complain about the movies and the lack of robots fights and whatnot. But as we saw in TF2, with the extended fights and more screen time for the robots, the critics and the average movie goer saw it as too loud and too intense. Now we all know Bay could care less about what they think but im sure the studios do. So yea if the entire movie was like this do really think those outside the TF Fandom would want to go see it? Money triumphs all.

Fun fact: Revenge of the Fallen was the highest grossing film in the US in 2009 (I think second overall behind Half-Blood Prince worldwide). I sure the studios care more about that fact, because they are rolling in dough.

Still proud to say I haven't seen it, I was in the camp that hated the first one.

Oh no doubt the studios care only about the money, if it wins an award or is critically acclaimed thats just icing. My point might have been a little abstract, my fault. I was trying to say that if casual movie goers & critics continue to walk away from the movie franchise it will hurt the bottom line (not likely though as you said it was the highest grossing movie this year). I thought the 2nd movie had some good battles, although I do agree many that the Twins were freakin annoying and how the US military can defeat alien robots so easily is beyond me, our military must have advanced a lot since Independence day.

Wow. That actually looked good. Crossing my nuts now, in hopes that it actually plays as well as it looks (starts grunting).......

The Atari game for the PS2 was pretty good. Possibly because you didn't have hair on your balls back then.

I shave anyway, but I still want a good transformers game. Could be the Arkham Asylum of '10.

I was so happy til I saw who was making it....I think I'll just wait for Transformers: War for Cybertron 6. It comes out Q1 2010 and they should have all bugs pretty well out by then I think. .......those bastards......

Sounds like somebody has the case of the Mondays.

The art style of this game looks like they took Michael Bay to the 2008 Animated series.

They sold me with Omega Supreme. I still have that toy in my closet. BEST. CHRISTMAS PRESENT. EVER.

Was excited about this until I saw the crAptivision badge at the end. Oh well, i'll pick it up pre-owned, so they see none of my money till they stop behaving like douches. EA managed it so anythings possible.

Just me? Or does the whole fuzzy transmission thing get on anyone else's nerves. Two seconds, fuzz, two seconds, fuzz.

If it turns out good, I hope Peter Cullen is involved.
