Is climbing Italy's tallest structures a little too easy in Assassin's Creed 2? We don't think so -- but when viewed through the bright red filter of Mirror's Edge, which required a sequence of forty button presses to open a door, we can understand why you'd think that. Poor Faith's skyscraper scaling envy was the subject of last week's Webcomic Wrapup winner, "Assassin's Edge," from Virtual Shackles. Congratulations!
Second and third place went to Penny Arcade's "Witchblades" and newcomer It's-a-Me's "Thank You," respectively. If you've got a favorite webcomic from this past week you'd like to see in today's revue, drop a link in the comments, or send in a tip!

Hell is pretty awesome, man. It has all the things Earth has and more. There is no punishment in Hell, it's not bad at all.

A background MIDI of the Cutey Honey theme? Wow, I've just flown back in time to 1997. Thank you, it's nicer here.

Something tells me that Brink from Splash Damage is going to performance-tune the Mirror's Edge formula; not only doing the free running more fluidly, but also having GOOD shooting. Great comic for the time being, however.

You're absolutely right, the shooting was fucking awful in Mirror's Edge, and should not have been included. But they did, so I'll continue to draw those comparisons, and hope someone comes along to do it better from the first person perspective. Zeno Clash did brawling better to boot! You know nothing.

Am I the only one who prefers the climbing system in Mirror's Edge to those in Assassin's Creed 1 and 2? In fact, I think it's WAY better. And that is BECAUSE it is more difficult, not despite. In Mirror's Edge, the process of jumping from one rooftop to the next is meticulous and technical--much like I imagine the process would be in real life. As a result, the game requires your full attention to be played well. And it's better for it.
In both Assassin's Creed games, however, I literally found myself zoning out as my character magically soared from rooftop to rooftop. I thought of things like what was for dinner, and why wool smells bad when it gets wet. I did not, however, think about anything to do with Assassin's Creed. The ease with which such complex moves were performed--while a technically impressive feat--actually worked against the game's ability to immerse the player.
I will not sit here and say that Mirror's Edge was a better game than either of the Assassin's Creeds. But I will say that despite a better plot, better storytelling, better combat mechanics, and less eye-bloodying white buildings, Assassin's Creed I no longer sits on my shelf. And Assassin's Creed II does not stand to remain there long either. Mirror's Edge will remain, however, because I still get a kick out of playing it. It made you work to master it. And once you had, each acrobatic move you performed felt great.

I can't agree with you there. I really wanted to like mirrors edge, but after completing the admittedly awesome first level, it becomes readily apparent that platforming from in a first person view sucks.
In order to avoid jumping too early or too late you must look straight down at your feet as you approach a ledge. This works, but it feels a bit restrictive and unintuitive. Also, Faith is picky about what she will and will not climb or grab on to. Sometimes running up to a chest high wall and making the appropriate button press sends you gracefully hurdling over it, other times you slam into like you didn't know it was there. The same inconsistent logic can be applied to ledges, hanging pipes, and falls. In a game that focuses on free running and platforming, this is simply unacceptable. So unless you get a sense of achievement from overcoming bad game design, I can't see why you would like the free running in Mirrors Edge over Assassins Creed.

I picked up Mirror's Edge the other day when it was $5 on Steam, so I have definitely been feeling the pain of falling because of a missed button press (a lot, hah).

I absolutely hate most of the comics that get into the Wrapup. I know that Assfuck comics aren't that artistically good, but it's the humor that counts and somehow a lot of people don't understand that. Anyways AFJ deserves to win.

That argument would work better if the comics were actually funny.

Mirrors edge is setup that way, Its part of the feel of the game.
If you want annoying!
Uncharted 2,
Now that was annoying! Having to hit x every time you climb anything.
Uncharted should be setup like Assassins Creed.
Funny comic though!

What I mean is that All dual stick console games move with the left stick and move camera or view with the right stick.
Great comic though... Not trying to be a deuchebag.

Although a couple of inputs are off, their point gets across lol Hilarious comic because it's quite true. I especially like this comic as I love both of those games.
Poor Faith, though. Ezio should've been a gentleman and help her up so he could attempt to work his charms on her as he always does to any female he meets.
