Reminder: Tune in for Joystiq's VGA liveblog tonight at 8 EST

We've been hurt so many times in the past, but we're holding out hope for this year's Spike Video Game Awards. It sounds like it will be absolutely rife with scoops, including footage from Halo Reach, the reveal of a new Star Wars game and a metric ton of new trailers. As is our custom, we'll put our hearts out on the line in order to liveblog the show for you, dear readers -- an exercise that will likely result in unrelenting anguish after the first ex-Mad TV cast member starts making the obligatory drug-or-fart-related jokes.

Join us at 8PM for the festivities. Unfortunately, Justin won't be fulfilling his usual role as MC, but we'll have more than enough Joystiqers on hand to make up for his absent humor. Also, we'll be doing shots anytime someone utters the words "World Exclusive." We expect things to get really weird, really fast.

But, I certainly give a shit about Halo: Reach and the new Star Wars game.

Actually this us the first year that I'm interested in the show. Not the awards. But the presentation of the show with no host and the potential for it to grow to a legitimate event.

It has coverage and awards for games. Of course I care.

No, I like to hear if Modern Warfare 2 win Game of the Year, or Best Shooter, or Best Multi-Player Game, or Best Graphics, or Best Original Score.

I would surprise If MW 2 win all 5 Awards.

Too bad people will give a shit. Apparently, if their game doesn't win GOTY, it means that all the fun they had was a lie.

Yeah, i like the idea of legitimate event. Just like the Oscars, Grammys or Emmys right?

I rarely type this out, but LOL.

I could go on about how much BS award shows are and always will be.

The only true gaming award that matters is what game Ludwig claims is the game of the year a year before playing it.

DUH.

I would prefer G4 to do the awards.

Hmm I might actually watch it this year. Should be a few good laughs.

I'm going to need to go pick up some alcohol before this gets under way.

I hope they reveal the Bioshock team's next project (Spec-Ops?), although that seems like the kind of thing you'd leave for E3.

I only watched the last 4 minutes of the liveblog last year, if I just watch the liveblog, will i still see all the WORLD EXCLUSIVES? And will they be covered under the annoying glare that comes from filming TVs?

Also a reminder that IGN will be on Fox in most major cities around 7:30 and will air a brand new mass effect 2 trailer (probably at the end of the show)

They have one more reveal, which is supposed to be even bigger than the Halo Reach trailer, which by their metric of big is going to be very hard to beat.

I bet it's Gears of War 3 then. It was supposed to be unveiled in the new EGM this month, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

I'm hoping for Gears 3. Also hoping they hire some more people to do the netcode this time around.

Some other predictions I've seen are Half Life 2: Episode 3 and a Duke Nukem Forever release date...

We hate him because he gets paid to make guesses about things which he knows nothing about. Actually, it's not even that, it's that his opinions are always posted and taken seriously. He brings no more insight to the table than any of the people who regularly read this blog.

I'm looking forward most to the Reach trailer, and I want to see this new Star Wars game. I'd also like some more footage/demos of Natal and the PMC, to see if they're running smoother.

And a release date for Perfect Dark XBLA, please!

How long is this gonna be? Here in Sweden, i have to wait 'til like 3 in the morning :O
