The second world premiere of the VGAs was the full version of the teaser we saw a couple weeks ago -- you know, the one we initially presumed was for another installment in the True Crime series? Yeah, well, it was totally for another installment in the True Crime series, which is being developed by ModNation Racers creators United Front. Guess there's no more mystery as to what Activision's upcoming Hong Kong-set action title is, huh?
It'll be a little while before we can get the high definition version of the trailer up, but until then, check out a screengrabbed version of the trailer after the jump, and feel confident in the fact that we're very good guessers.
Update: We've added a hi-res version of the trailer above.
I'm not too keen on the true crime series but I think I might try my hand at this. When I played the first game, I loved how you could pat down random people and if you managed to find drugs on them, you could handcuff them. I think the whole undercover cop character, could help the game stand out from grand theft auto.
Hopefully it's also a more complete rendition of the city. All Hong Kong crime movies overemphasize the scale of crime and triads in the modern city, it's a genre thing, but Hong Kong is vibrant, unique and interesting society in its own right. Hopefully the game reflects that, like how GTA4 was in many ways a parable of NYC.
I don't know why, but after watching this trailer, I keep thinking of Rise to Honor. I know they have nothing to do with each other, well maybe it's the same location but I remember really liking that game when I first played it. I've never cared for the True Crime series but hopefully this new developer can change my mind.
Honestly, I was like, "What?". Compared to the other titles announced, it was the least interesting/anticipated/anything.
If it's awesome, that's great, but I'm not holding my breath. Animations looked slightly weird in my opinion, as did the frame-rate; I could swear it was at 20-22 fps.
This explains the survey I took not long ago. I wondered why, in a survey about sandbox games, True Crime was there alongside GTA, Crackdown, Saint's Row, etc.
can't watch the video, that sucks. the True Crime: SoLA may not have been the best game ever, but it was pretty fun. the use of music was pretty good, and i remember the sniper shootout was pretty intense. also the radio chatter was HILARIOUS- "Attention all units, we have two chefs attempting to settle their differences by way of the Samurai, who is responding?". ok, i'll add this one to my list of games to watch for.
I've been to Hong Kong several times. It is NEVER that crowded on the streets. Except for Chinese New Year in the park where they sell all the little firecrackers and toys.
Wait, like the terrible GTA rip offs that came out last generation? Like the series which second game had you playing as a cracked out looked version of R. Kelly? *THIS* is True Crime?
Why not just scrap the name entirely and drop that horrible association. I had completely forgot about that series up until now. This looks fucking bad ass. Why would you do that do the game out of the gate? I was 100% excited to see this, now I'm worried.
This looks like it could be really cool. I enjoyed the first game mostly, but felt the 2nd game sucked. I kept getting lost and not knowing what to do.
The only other games I can think of with a Hong Kong settings were Stranglehold, that Jet Li PS2 title with the analog stick fighting (blech), and Wreckless. Not a bad record like Movie-2-Videogame adaptions. Never cared for the True Crime series however as the gameplay never matched its scale.
You people haven't even played it yet and you're saying it's going to be bad... I don't want to say this, because it's ridiculously douchey, but I think I'm forced to.
Could be good, TC:LA was pretty decent, but the second one in NYC was horrible, sooo buggy and the car handling was horrendous, however this could be really cool, Hong Kong's an awesome city and there's a whole load of homages to Hong Kong crime cinema they could throw in there, couldn't help but thing of "City On Fire" and "Hard Boiled" while I watched that! :)
