Somehow these games have an appeal that GTA was never able to strike with me. Guess that's why we have choices. :)

Same here. Saint's Row 2 had a lot more appeal for me than GTA IV did or does. I loved SR2 to tiny pieces, but GTA IV just seems boring.

I'm just hoping the Gay Tony content comes to PC, because it's the only part of GTA IV that interest me, and I'm holding out for a Game of the Year edition.

My friend Morgan said the trailer was unimpressive, but I thought it looked really fine, although all open world game trailers look so strikingly similar.

I think the first Crackdadown was just an average shooter game. Thus, I expect more from this game. I saw its trailer and I thought it was awesome. Most game trailers were good, except for True Crime. See video compilation here:

awetobot- I'd upvote you because I agree with you, then I'd downvote you for bringing politics into a gaming thread, so I'll just leave you alone I guess, it would balance out anyway

@Chibi

agreed. haven't even beaten GTAIV since i got it at launch, but i beat inFamous twice (good and evil) in little more than two weeks, including majority of the side missions.

i never played the original Crackdown, but this looks pretty sweet! i'll have to find the original somewhere cheap to brush up on the story before the sequel.

@Jose: You'd better hope you have a damn good PC. GTA IV runs like shit on almost any PC. I'm not kidding when I say that Crysis on max settings at 1920x1200 has a better framerate than GTA IV on medium (same res). It really needs some optimisation work. Would be nice if the DLC came to GFWL though.

@atrimus: The original Crackdown was (and is) great fun as long as you are prepared to put up with the rediculousness of it (not a bad thing...it's not like Mario is any more realistic but its amazing anyway). Also, don't play it if you're after any kind of storyline. It's just mindless destruction based fun with a rather interesting graphical style (Crackdown 2 looks slightly more realistic graphically, but not much).

Ok, I don't have anything related to say in regards of the OP, but the song is

Richard Swift - Would You

I spent a good 5 minutes looking for it myself.

Is the first game any good? The fact that Microsoft used it as a launch vehicle for the Halo 3 Beta didn't exactly speak volumes about their confidence in the title.

Crackdown was way better than Halo 3 (like a lot of games, lol). A lot of people got it just for that, then ended up enjoying the game.

It also doesn't help how many copies hit used game store shelves. No replay value, I take it?

I enjoyed the crap out of it, but yes, once you see and do everything there is in the game, there's not much point to replaying. A problem with all of these sandbox games.

I have to agree with other posters, Crackdown, Saints Row 2, [prototype] and The Saboteur are all way more fun than GTA IV.

Playing the first one in co-op makes it one of the three most fun games of this generation.

Seriously, people that couldn't have fun with Crackdown have no soul. NO SOUL. That game was awesome, and even before it was announced I said that if it were, Crackdown 2 would likely be one of my most anticipated sequels of this gen (behind only a new Uncharted and a new Gears).

I wasn't very impressed by what I saw last night, but after playing Prototype and even Infamous (which I hated), I guess I just expect a higher level of quality and production in my open world action games than Crackdown gives. I even enjoyed Spiderman Web of Shadows more than Crackdown.

It got old after a couple hours. The slow climbing, being forced to use the same 2 powers through the whole game, the mediocre story, the technical issues.

Not that I'm going to convince you to like inFamous, but Prototype is way more guilty of all those shortcomings you listed for inFamous. Hell, at least inFamous had a worthwhile story.

Prototype was fun though, quick moving running/climbing, great set of moves and abilities. The game being fun let me overlook the technical problems, unlike Infamous.

Prototype relied too heavily on throwing shit at you constantly. That's the game in a nutshell. The parkour was weak (once you can glide there's no point to climbing buildings except for altitude), the mission structure was incredibly repetitive (the side missions are no fun), and the combat becomes rote after you figure out what's the most effective way to take out enemies (hint: a chopper).

I'm not going to take away your love of Prototype, but it really is the inferior game of the two in terms of design.

The climbing was one of the few things that annoyed me in inFamous, basically mash X until you get to where you want. I hope they can improve on this in the sequel. The controls though were perfect and felt great unlike Assassins creed 2 (Which I do love) where I'm almost 100% sure there is input lag.

Gotta go with tmac on this one. Not saying infamous is a bad game, but I really preferred Prototype more.

At one point the camera was right behind me, tailing me as I was doing 60 mph up a sky scraper with helicopters shooting missiles straight up on either side of me. It really felt like something out of an insane action movie. I actually had to pause the game and tell my friend about it, I was so impressed.

WoS was an in-cohesive ugly PoS man. The story was all over the place and had so many plot holes. The gameplay was so messed up and glitchy. Gah I just look at that game as an example of what an open world game shouldn't be like.

Crackdown was roughly 4000 times better than Prototype, especially playing it co-op which is one of the most fun gaming experiences I've ever had.

But I forgot, Tmac is much too hardcore for that.

Co op is ok if it's an addition and not the selling point, it's too shallow to be the main selling point of a video game. But Crackdown as a whole was a game of no substance, it's just mean to turn on and run around blowing shit up. It was definitely too casual for me.

hmmm - what I loved about the first was that you were a good guy and were supposed to avoid hurting civilians. If you just replace civies with zombies, it takes away the repercussions-for-your-choices aspect. Dunno how I feel about that.

I bet/hope the zombies only represent one slice of town. I bet/hope they'll be the last act, following a plotline about gangs failing to make supersoldiers.

So excited for this one. First one provided hours of fun with a friend.

Also to everyone saying they added zombies blah blah blah, they are the "freaks" from the first game, and they only come out at night. If they behave anything like they do in the first, it's gonna make for a very challenging experience because they are fast, powerful, and like to make you their bitch.
